MORITZ JENZ looks to be heading for the Celtic exit – FIVE months before his loan contract is due to expire.

The towering German central defender, who agreed a season-long deal when he arrived from French club Lorient in the summer, has rarely figured since Carl Starfelt returned from injury in November.

Jenz, who was overlooked for the match day squad in the 4-0 midweek win over St Mirren, is reported to be interesting clubs in his homeland.

SMILES BETTER…Moritz Jenz is congratulated by Matt O’Riley and Filipe Jota after his debut goal in the 3-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall in August.

Ironically, he could be playing in the Bundesliga at the same time as team-mate Josip Juranovic who is on the brink of a £10million move to Union Berlin.

Jenz slipped down the Hoops pecking order when Ange Postecoglou brought in Yuki Kobayashi, 22, on a five-year contract from Vissel Kobe. The Japanese prospect agreed the switch in mid-November when CQN queried the chances of the German impressing enough to win a permanent deal.

The 6ft-plus left-sided back-four operator hit the ground running after his arrival and made 19 appearances, getting off to a flyer with a soaring header on his debut in the 3-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall on August 6.

Jenz followed up with an overhead-kick strike in the 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park a week later.

RISE AND SHINE…Moritz Jenz towers above friend and foe as he heads in his debut goal against Ross County.

However, it looks as though the 23-year-old defender is on his way, according to the Daily Record.

Postecoglou’s first-choice for his central rearguard pairing is Cameron Carter-Vickers and Swedish international Starfelt who was bought for £4.2million from Rubin Kazan in July 2021.

Kobayashi made his debut in the victory over the Paisley team and is likely to keep his place for today’s Scottish Cup 12.15pm kick-off against Championship outfit Morton at Parkhead.
