Celtic loanee Gustaf Lagerbielke made his debut as a late substitute for FC Twente last night. He helped the Dutch side secure a point at Manchester United, after Sam Lammers equalised with his fourth goal of the season. Lammers has now scored more goals in two months for Twente than he did during his time in Scotland, which saw him arrive for €4m and leave for half that amount. It would be a great irony if Michael Beale’s eye for a striker proved more effective than his successor’s.
Tonight, our Coefficient Monkeys are in action against Sead Haksabanovic’s Malmo. Sead left Celtic in the summer and has played only 23 minutes for the Swedish club after an uninspiring spell at Stoke last term. A Pavlovian Response will kick in during the game, but right now I’m indifferent about how this game turns out. The coefficient points have proven hugely beneficial in recent years. More of the same would be handy, it’s not as though Hearts are likely to step up.

Where are you

“It seems a bit pessimistic as Brendan will never have a better chance to pile in a few Co eff points and, in so doing, address his relatively poor record in Europe across all his managerial appointments. I think he will do that but we will still face a pre season ‘shoot out’ which does level the playing field somewhat.
For an uber Celtic fan you kinda struggle with your history from time to time…
BR Mk1 took over a Celtic team that was failing big time in Europe, he regularly qualified for the UCL and Celtic became a Pot 3 Club.
After BR left the European results fell off a cliff…
BR Mk2 took over a team that was failing in Europe and we have won back to back UCL group stage games for the first time in yonks…
In Brendan we trust

Disappointed you didn’t mention the Ghirls game tonight.
TÁL: from previous, thanks.
I think I know some of our history but I am struggling to remember back to back Celtic wins.
Have we actually ever done this ?
Brendana teams continue to break ancient records.
Here’s to a other league clean sheet at Perth.
Aftnoon all.
It’s windy and baltic up here.

I mean back to back cha pions league wins.

I would rather play qualifiers, than support that hun mob for co- efficienct points, every day of the week

Is that not an example of ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’

“You mentioned the singer performing in Dunfermline. Do you have a Fife connection ?”
That was me not Quadrophenian, no connection bar liking me an Astruther F+C and drinking in various parts and dating a few lassies from said part of Scotland back in the day.
I should really change my blog name (at the risk of being known as a multi moniker!) if it clashes with Quadrophenian too much; I have not owned a quad bike for years and it was the laziest online name I’ve ever created/used I think! I drive a Honda “Rebel” these days but RebelBhoy just has all the wrong connotations for me!

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve since heard that the venue is meant to be super strict on kids ids even when with families so unless I can source a fake Id for my youngest who will be just under 14 I wont risk it.

We’ve never won in Germany 😮

We have to start sometime
GENE
Absolutely, some close ones in the past.
Probably would have beaten Stuttgart, we were so far ahead on aggregate, it got a bit edgy.
Just had a look , Dortmund 87 was our first European game against German opposition.

“BR Mk1 took over a Celtic team that was failing big time in Europe, he regularly qualified for the UCL and Celtic became a Pot 3 Club”
We didnt, we havent been a pot 3 team until this season with the new format and more teams. The time round we sneaked into pot 3 with far fewer coefficient points than in the two seasons we qualified when Brendan was in charge first time round.
“After BR left the European results fell off a cliff.”
They improved. We won 9 points in our Europa League group in Brendan’s last season, after he left we topped it with 13. We lost both legs of our knockout ties under Brendan, we drew and lost int Lenny’s first season.
Brendan’s results were good again teams we should beat but we couldnt punch up. 1 victory in 16 against teams from bigger leagues with bigger budgets, 3 draws.
“BR Mk2 took over a team that was failing in Europe and we have won back to back UCL group stage games for the first time in yonks…”
We improved by one point in his first season. He’s partly repsonsible for us not winning back to back stage games. A meaningless last group game and a home victory against our worst opponents doesnt wipe out all his previous failures.
He still has as much to prove as Celtic do.
Quadbhoy – good to hear there’s another biker on the blog.
There used to be a poster called VFR770 or summit?
Maybe he changed his monicker too.
What model Rebel you ride?
I’m on a Yammy 950 Bolt; best bike I’ve owned – in a lovely green called ‘envy’.
Who’d win a fight between the Coefficient Monkeys and the Codependant Monkeys ?
Of course, we played East German side before that
● Going back a bit●●
1) First Celtic player to score at a World cup?
2) First World cup winner to play for Celtic?
3) Most World cup goals while a Celtic player?
Bobby Collins. Juninho. John collins
Or Charlton if we include testimonial
I am now doubting myself. Did Bertie peacock score for the black north.
Almost beat VfB Stuttgart back in 2003. Were 5-1 up on aggregate at one point.
I was there with my brother. Great night. We left a little early to get back to Heilbronn
and were well received on the train by Stuttgart fans! Fair do to them :-)

If the Ghirls do qualify today,I really fear for them in the group stages. Not up to that standard,by a long way.Still,it will be a great thing for them to look forward to,until the 1st game.Wee Souls.
🎶 There’s not a team like the Co-Efficient Monkeys – no not one 🎶

A Scottish women’s team has yet to qualify for the group stages of CL.
It will be a great achievement if the ghirls make it.
Like the day they clinched the championship, I’m sure there will be plenty of nerves.
Good luck to them!
With the changes in the the coefficient points system favouring any team that has qualified for the CL groups it even more important for the national co efficient that the Huns do well in the Europa. Otherwise we’re almost certainly looking at 3 qualifying rounds un the season after next.
I could have it wrong but I remember someone calculating the odds of qualifying after going through 3 ties as being 2/5.
A R2ngers victory tonight wouldn’t bother me in the least.
I don’t think they’ll win BTW.
Their recent capacity to squeeze their way out of a 4 team group, then bore their way into the latter stages will be tested severely under this new format.
In three of the last five seasons (the measuring period) they’ve amassed teens of coefficient points.
Unfortunately for us, I think the days of them being the coefficient monkeys are coming to an end.
Bad for Scottish football all round.
As for Hearts – an absolute disgrace of an outfit on the European stage.
I expect them to huff and puff, collect some participation dough for making it to the party, bow out of the ECL in December .. then battle in the SPFL bottom six for the rest of the season.

“Quadbhoy – good to hear there’s another biker on the blog.”
I own and ride a bike but would not classify myself as a biker in the same way that I own and play (badly) several guitars yet would not call myself a guitarist :)
“What model Rebel you ride?

Nice! My current bike is just a wee matt black CMX500S; used to ride a baby fire blade, a lovely green ninja amongst others then traded to a 350 road legal quad for a bit before the kids arrived. Its my first bike since I’ve had kids so its more of a cruiser to take me to Fort William and back now and again to clear my head! Its also handy if I need to get peace from the kids for 20 minutes as I can do the local runs/shops on it as their mum wont let them anywhere near it :)
Is your bike for your day to day or just for fun? If fun, where are your favourite roads/routes?

P.S. As the kids always ask… “How fast does it go mister?”

I’m with you. Never have wanted that mob to win ANY game.
Never will.
As much as the next man, I would like to see the Celtic coefficient increase. i would also like to see us perform better in Champions League games. This goes together normally. I am sure that UEFA were doing away with National Coefficients and bringing in Club coefficient. Is that still happening?
Was this not discussed recently and the thought that we would gain more points by playing in the Europa League. However, in the new revised Set-Up there is no route from CL group stage. If we continue to win the League in Scotland and win CL qualifiers then we never will be in the Europa League again.
This new set-up seems to help our situation and accordingly our coefficient. A good performance would qualify for at least the play offs. This would result in an upward spiral of increased coefficient, bigger earnings, increased seeding etc. Meanwhile Sevco would would likely be in a downward spiral. Hey-Ho
us and accordingly should improve our own coefficient
A few weeks ago I went to a seminar about Chartered Accountants in sport run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland in Glasgow.
The main speakers were:
Rucelle Soutar who is the Chief Financial Officer and Director of the Scottish Football Association
Shirley McIntosh who won several Commonwealth Games medals for shooting, and
Kelly Clark – captain of the Celtic Women’s Team
All spoke well about juggling home, family, accountancy studying and jobs and their sport which was the theme of the evening. The panel was all female but most of the demands could apply to a male and that was not forgotten.
Kelly spoke particularly well about these demands over a long football season. She works for Deloitte said that she gets great support from her employer to flex her time to accommodate her football career.
She has only missed a Celtic match once due to her profession as she had critical exams the following day. Celtic lost 2-0 to Rangers in that game and I could see her frustration that she missed it and could not influence the result even years later.
When asked if the Celtic players got on well with the Rangers players, she hummed and hawed for a few seconds, and said “…………..not really” to amusement from the audience.
I had the chance to speak to her at the drinks at the end. She comes from Arbroath which is a favourite place of mine – I was up there a couple of weeks ago and was invited to Hot Smoked’s for a while which was a real pleasure. I told her that the first match i ever went to on my own without my dad was Arbroath v Doncaster Rovers! It was a July pre-season game.
We talked about Rose Reilly and how I knew a girl who played in that first women’s international match between Scotland and England; my friend Tom Sermanni who went on to manage the Australian and American women’s teams and how I have always had an interest in women’s football.
Kelly talked about how she thought she was the only girl who only wanted to play football and neglected her school studies a bit, although she did make it to university and then a professional qualification, just like the English player Jill Scott who won 161 caps for her country. Their stories are very similar – look up Jill Scott on Desert Island Discs Archive. She is very inspiring.
Kelly represents Celtic just as well as Callum does – we are blessed to have 2 such good ambassadors for our club.
I hope the Ghirls play there normal game tonight, keep their composure and they can qualify.

You don’t half come up with nonsense.
I know my history.
I don’t need to re write it or make it up like you seem to.
Trying to defend the indefensible by making things up is silly.
