Locking down for Celtic, Commons stamina

231

Kilmarnock are having a nightmare start to the season. It’s not so much that they’ve lost both games played, or the manner in which they lost, but every other team in the league has picked up points and either shown glimpses of form, or like Ross County, are feeling really good about their start to the season.

Dundee’s 0-4 humiliation of Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season found some context last night, when, before a TV audience, they played some really good football last night in Scotland’s biggest derby fixture. With this in mind, and aware that the evening’s visit of Celtic could make their four goal skelping by Dundee look modest, Gary Locke is likely to put his team into, erm, lockdown.

The challenge for Celtic tonight is simple: find your scoring touch. Three 2-0 results against Stjarnan, Ross County and Partick Thistle, and a 1-0 and 0-0 against Qarabag are great defensive scores, but only the 1-4 win in Iceland looked like a team who are in free-scoring form.

Kris Commons gave us 88 minutes on Sunday. He must have been exhausted at the end but the experience will have pushed his fitness on considerably. It’s important he uses tonight, and Saturday’s game against Inverness, to balance the requirement to increase stamina without tiring muscles for the Malmo game. Another full shift tonight and a cameo appearance at the weekend sounds like a reasonable compromise.

I think £15m is a realistic and fair price for VVD tho I’d rather hold onto him.

There are 5 billion reasons for Celtic to draw a line re his transfer fee. If we hold firm, we will defo get £15m

In other news, the famous Glasgow Celtic have a game tonight.

MaCoolick and MonsterMunch will be embarrassing proof (for some) that JC is on the money.

    MaCoolick a player-COACH !!!

Jeez – what about our future and current coefficient !???!

  6. JFH-£10 mil wouldn’t buy his dog IMO, he should be valued on his ability, and what he can bring to a team, the old chestnut of what league he plays in is nonsense, the SMSM were telling us a few months ago Leo MacLeod was worth £5 mil…….I wouldn’t entertain anything less than £15 mil HH

  7. I’d be happy to extend his contract by two years and pat him £35K a week inflate the value of asking price.

Could still sell him to the first to meet the asking price which I think will come very quickly if we get CL

Just think Lhads, if we could offload big Virgil for £15m, we could be in the running for Scott Allan…

    Ha ha

Big Virgil is going nowhere else but on to the big table with us decked out in the tuxedo.

  9. if VVD is to leave this transfer window, then it should not be concluded until the last day.

thats when the crazy last minute inflated deals really happen.

£10m, not so hot a price, let it stew some.

I agree it’s a massive Celtic talking point, but SMSM always do their bit in trying to sell Celtic’s best players.

With respect, the rumours are incredibly weak even by their standards, no source, not so much as a Southampton taxi driver. Could it be Southampton again because of Wanyama and Forster, bearing in mind last week, it was Everton.

Celtic are concentrating on CL qualification and any sale is on hold until we’re in or out, at which point we

might have a decision to make.

Allegedly VVD is unlikely to sign a new contract, we may keep him and sell in January if we’re in the CL , we might even keep him till the summer, as he still has two seasons on his contract.

Ultimately there has to be a bid, and up to now despite paper talk since last season, or since he first played a great game for Celtic, there isn’t one, unless you choose to disbelieve Ronny Deila.

    Tallybhoy,

Is it not the case that it is called the San Siro when referring to the home ground of AC and the Guiseppe Meaza when Inter are at home?

  18. 67Heaven .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I am wee Oscar...... Ipox belongs to the creditors on

I’m assuming the meeja are looking for another anti-Celtic story now that they have beaten the JC story to death, when I read that Celtic may be interested in scott allan …….he is an absolutely hopeless player and sevco have no intention of paying £1, let alone thousands for him…..an absolute joke…

  19. normanstreet49 on

    I work often in MIlano….

AC are allegedly moving to a new stadium.

Inter will renovate the San Siro.

That’s the rumours anyway and have been for. While.

    Thomthetim

My inter supporting pal told me that the formal name for the stadium (which is in the San Siro district, and hence was called the San Siro) was changed to the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. But since GM was more connected to Inter (although he did play for both), the Milan fans refuse to use that name, and still call it the San Siro.

  21. You’ll be spared my rubbish on the “live updates” tonight, as I’ll have to watch the match “live” later.

Given that it’s our 7th match (including 1 friendly) in 21 days, with 2 of them being away trips in The CL qualifiers, I’d say any win would be a great 3 points tonight.

I tried the watching “live” later with the Barca game last night. Stayed off here to avoid the score, recorded a re-run, started watching it this morning, and 5 minutes in on the Ticker news feed on the bottom of the screen, up came the legend “Barca edge 9 goal thriller”.

    Cheers BT Sport.
