Locking down for Celtic, Commons stamina

231

Kilmarnock are having a nightmare start to the season. It’s not so much that they’ve lost both games played, or the manner in which they lost, but every other team in the league has picked up points and either shown glimpses of form, or like Ross County, are feeling really good about their start to the season.

Dundee’s 0-4 humiliation of Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season found some context last night, when, before a TV audience, they played some really good football last night in Scotland’s biggest derby fixture. With this in mind, and aware that the evening’s visit of Celtic could make their four goal skelping by Dundee look modest, Gary Locke is likely to put his team into, erm, lockdown.

The challenge for Celtic tonight is simple: find your scoring touch. Three 2-0 results against Stjarnan, Ross County and Partick Thistle, and a 1-0 and 0-0 against Qarabag are great defensive scores, but only the 1-4 win in Iceland looked like a team who are in free-scoring form.

Kris Commons gave us 88 minutes on Sunday. He must have been exhausted at the end but the experience will have pushed his fitness on considerably. It’s important he uses tonight, and Saturday’s game against Inverness, to balance the requirement to increase stamina without tiring muscles for the Malmo game. Another full shift tonight and a cameo appearance at the weekend sounds like a reasonable compromise.

Citric suspended, Broony, Armstrong, Lustig rested, Mulgrew, GMS on bench, Scepovic, Efe not in squad – won’t help Malmo much as they will be scouting this game.

Think they are just trying to get Janko up to speed so that we have 3 that I would not be unhappy to see on the team sheet at RB.

young Fisher has impressed me but so has Janko with his body strength and pace what little I have seen of him.

Oooops – it’s Ciftci is suspended (Citric sounds too orange) and Boyata is not in squad – sorry for confusing comment – hoping Malmo were reading them

Happy with any win and 3 points tonight – clean sheet preferable – and no serious injuries.

  7. Someone suggested that Virgil may have a £10mil release clause in his contract??? Sounds Plausible as we paid a fraction of that to sign him from Groningen.

When he comes back from suspension, and starts in league games, that’ll be the acid test.

the playoff rounds are part of the overall Champions League TV deal there is nothing Celtic can do about this.

The earlier rounds the TV rights belong to the home team.

However for these TV rights every team in the playoff round got €2.1 million whether they won or lost the playoff last year.

I don’t think Celtic would make that from ticket sales for the Malmo game.

  10. Malmo should be a sell-out regardless if on the tv or not. Anyone who can go but doesn’t should have a word with themselves.

  11. Pub team 0 Celtic 4

    The bet is on…..

Have a feeling Rony might settle for his usual 2-0

    The bet will be down….lol

  12. Nice to see Janko starting. Tierney misses out on last 2 squads after a very encouraging debut, maybe injured?. Interesting to see Stoksey in squad, a reprieve?, shop window? or a last 5 minutes to say goodbye?,

  13. It’s been proven before that too many changes can be our undoing.

I’m banking on killie being so bad, that it’ll not matter.

Boyata being rested is interesting. I’m not a fan of Efe… I’ve been consistent on that. Just hope he justifies the faith Ronny has placed on him to start.

  14. I’m expecting all the changes are to test the system against a weaker team, we’ve been hearing that all the players know the system and should be able to slot in, this number of changes will test that.

Anybody any idea what the seat availablity for Malmo looks like now?

I bought extra seats back of 12 today and there weren’t all that many available in the area I looked at. Malmo will be taking their full quote (2,600 I think) so it looks like a noisy night.

Big Johan Mjallby on BT Sport – looks like he could still play :-)

  16. Reading on Newsnow rumour about Joey Barton coming to Celtic and of course Anthony Stokes heading for the exit, now doesn’t that sound like a sensible move. Good to see him in the squad for to-night

  17. With the captain and an international full back a long with the creative Armstrong missing thats still looks a good line up.boyata rested? Still 3-0 to the good guys. Hail Hail.

  18. Still no news of UPC switching on BT Europe for Irish subscribers to BT Sport. Anyone know what’s going on with this crowd. Getting worried about next week’s Malmo match.

  19. 67Heaven .. CHALLENGING THE LIE ..I am wee Oscar...... Ipox belongs to the creditors on

Why do these teams not water the feckin pitches ….. .?
