Long road ahead for Engels

110

The road to Arne Engels becoming a permanent fixture in the Belgium national team will be a long one, but the player took a significant step towards that goal by starting both his country’s Nations League games in the last week.  Defeat at home to Italy and to Israel in Budapest is likely to mean manager Domenico Tedesco continues to experiment with his side, but our 21-year-old is head of the queue of a new generation of Belgium players.

This international break will be less memorable for Liam Scales, who received a harsh second yellow for Ireland at Wembley last night, precipitating an Irish collapse.  Celtic games come thick and fast after the break, Liam will have plenty of chance to put the disappointment behind him.

  1. In reply to TexasTim from a day or so ago.

I was MC’ing a Q&A at our Sales Conference last week. Was told to keep it clean and avoid politics.

Said my name and then told the audience “for those that do not know me you may be detecting a little bit of an accent. Don’t worry though, I’m not here to eat your dogs and your cats.”

    Happy Monday all.

  2. Aipple – cheers!

Bournesoup – jealous of your cold, still cooking in TX 🤬 – coming home for the Festive so will get my fill of wind and rain for a while then.

It could have been worse, I remember being at one do where the speaker joked about buying “little girls” or “your women” – I think I was only one of about 3 people to get the reference 😂

  6. The Hearts v Celtic game this Saturday night is LIVE on Sky Sports.

    Kick Aff is 7.45pm.

Engurlund v IRELAND yesterday. Liam Scales was treated harshly by the Ref, who would probably argue that only applied the ” Letter of the Law” when issuing the 2nd yellow card, and red card to LIAM.

Liam and Ireland were playing okay until that game changing moment IMHO.

However, I have seen a STILL PIC of Liams challenge in the Irish Penalty area that led to the Red Card……It was plain to see that the contact on Jude Bellingham was ” Minimal” at worst, but in the STILL PHOTO, Bellingham CLEARLY is doing his utmost to win a Penalty, as his Face is DISTORTED in supposed ” AGONY” at the point of falling down ???

In my eyes Bellingham is a CLEAR CHEAT, as there was NO WAY that there was any ” Force” in the contact, that would make anyone go down like that and in supposed ” AGONY”.

It looks to me that BELLINGHAM has been taking ” LESSONS” from that other CHEAT….HARRY KANE ?

I am surprised that Liam Scales didnt appear to have some choice words for Bellingham after his DIVE, as he made his way off the Pitch !

Looks like Wales and the Northern half of England are going to be affected over the next couple of days and it will be just their luck that we will get a cold winter all round. Not to mention that gas prices went up 10% in October. Labour seems to think they are safe for five years, with their gold plated majority in the Commons, but I am of the view that they will find that the real opposition is out here, out there, eg the Farmers protest in London tomorrow. And dont forget there are more State Pensioners 10 million, than the number who actually voted Labour, 4 million fewer than voted for Corbyn back in 2017 and only 33% of the electorate back in July. Piss poor politics…. to coin a phrase

It was Liam’s first booking that was stupid

    My thoughts exactly.

Until his sending off he was playing very well, winning all the arial duels and making some great blocks.

  14. Scales hung a leg out and tripped the player. could have stayed on his feet but took the opportunity for the penalty as is his right. Preventing a clear chance in the box is a mandatory yellow.

I agree with Big Jimmy that Bellingham didn’t need all the injury play acting. He does this all the time (see the Euros) and it spoils the fact he has talent. I also agree that Kane does the same.

The cheating always seems to come form top talent (players/teams) which just extends their advantage. Should really be the poorer teams/players who use it to level up.

Good luck to Scotland tonight; our luck has been awful in this group apart from Friday night.

‘The mission of the Conservative Party is to convince the less wealthy to vote in favour of fhe very wealthy.’ Aneurin Bevan.

You may be a case in point, CM. Only land worth £3 million or more will be subject to death duties. Even then those liable will be allowed several years to pay the tax. The purpose of the tax is to redress 14 years of neglect to the NHS.

  17. i still struggle with the concept tofay of descendents of irish people, and scottish people a la the young grey bhoy, wanting to pledge for england.

that is jyst me though i suppose.

    and i am half english.

  18. Bellingham has got worse at the diving since going to Madrid and the hand gestures have started, kane although 6ft 2 hits the deck frequently for nada

  19. Celtic Mac,

The comment made at the time by that Witch was”The rise you will be getting in April, will more than compensate the loss of the heating allowance”

So many things wrong with that statement,I don’t know were to begin.

  20. fritzsong

No serious Prime Minister or Chancellor would rule out increasing any tax, as Starmer & Reeves have done with VAT, NI for Employees, Income tax on employees etc. Reeves is clueless, She could have put NI back up to 10% on employees, or even increased the basic rate of Income Tax by 2p to 22p, or here’s one, scrapped the exemption enjoyed by LLPs (Limited Liability Partnerships) whereby they do not pay employers national insurance contributions as they pocket £multi million incomes. That alone could have raised £billions. The only farms I ever knew, in Scotland, were family farms, bit like Emmerdale Farm back in the day. At least they put food on the table. So no probably would not have targeted such as those. Then again John McTiernan, former advisor to Blair said only last week that he was in favour of doing to farmers what Thatcher did to the miners. Doubt Starmer will go down that ol’ farm road.

Funnily enough the only polis I’ve seen here was last night. Guy was pissed dancing with himself in the square.

Polis arrived and obviously he was advised to go home! Sensible guy did, never argue with the Spanish polis 🤫

Dancing with himself? Must have been a hun, they can’t find partners. Not human ones anyway. 🤣🤣

  24. Jude Bellingham is a very wealthy young man. He used to so respectfull and played the beautiful game.

He talked so well that belittled his young age.

Great parents as role models. He had it all.

He has changed. The sign language, the comments and the diving..

Maybe not out and out cheating, but definitely the dark side of gamesmanship.

Huge advances regarding renumeration, but in my book backwards as a highly respected young individual .
