Long road ahead for Engels

110

The road to Arne Engels becoming a permanent fixture in the Belgium national team will be a long one, but the player took a significant step towards that goal by starting both his country’s Nations League games in the last week.  Defeat at home to Italy and to Israel in Budapest is likely to mean manager Domenico Tedesco continues to experiment with his side, but our 21-year-old is head of the queue of a new generation of Belgium players.

This international break will be less memorable for Liam Scales, who received a harsh second yellow for Ireland at Wembley last night, precipitating an Irish collapse.  Celtic games come thick and fast after the break, Liam will have plenty of chance to put the disappointment behind him.

  1. well played scotland

talking to someone who works a lot of the squad today and we both agreed that despite a run of bad results, the scottish performances have been mostly excellent

Which has been proved, again, by tonights performance

  2. Clunks – I agree on Scotland. After zero points from their first 3 games, it’s a decent return and some payback on bad luck in the earlier games.

Realistically, a play off is a good outcome in a tough group.

  3. One of my cousins who is only 49, just been taken into hospital with a suspected stroke

Prayers for her would be most grateful

  4. Good frosty morning from a -3 Garngad.

  6. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

…. To me feels similar to Celtic of yesteryear picking up after Christmas (Burns,Venglos).

Great football and results but came too late to stay in the hunt / damage already done.

Similar story with Beale and R2ngers (apart from the great football bit)

  7. Poland v Scotland last night.

i am NOT a big fan of watching Scotland games on TV/Computer unless there are some Celtic players involved.

However, I ENJOYED the game last night largely due to some excellent play from BOTH Teams…mixed in with some mistakes from BOTH teams.

BOTH teams went at it throughout the 94 minutes, although Scotlands winning Goal in the 93rd minute, cost me a few Quid with the Bookie, as I had the Correct Score of 1 – 1 at odds of 11/2 on a couple of bookie lines.

It was ” End to End” stuff and quite enjoyable for a change.

  8. Whisper it…

    Engurlund v Ireland.

Engurlunds 5th Goal also cost me a few Quid with the Bookie on Sunday evening, as I backed the English to win by the correct score of 4 – 0 at limited odds of 9/1 ( I think ? )

Anthony Ralston’s 10th consecutive Scotland start ended in a 2-1 victory as Steve Clarke’s side pulled off a memorable win in Poland last night…
