Long term more important with Guidetti

415

The most important news concerning John Guidetti is no longer whether Fifa recognise his registration, it’s whether John is keen to remain in Glasgow beyond May next year.

The player is not eligible for the Europa League group stage, and it is not critically important he joins for Premiership football in the first half of the season.  He can join in January for the league run-in, and hopefully the latter part of the Europa League, but as we know, the next major event on Celtic’s horizon is next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which then out-of-contract Guidetti would be a valuable addition for.

Whatever the Fifa outcome, the player will be planning where he wants to play beyond this season and it’s unlikely Scotland will have previously featured heavily in his mind.  Monday was a bit of a shambles for the player but he got to see how Celtic operate.  Hopefully the positive sentiment will convince him this is a platform he can build his career on.

It’s just incredible that Mike Ashley had Charles Green in such a place that he was able to secure naming rights of The Stadium Formerly Referred to as Ibrox for £1.  Whether he exercises this right or not is moot.  The fact that he can, means that Newco Rangers have to accommodate him in the knowledge he is able to call in his marker at any time.

The only curious thing, is why was this particular piece of dirty washing hung out at this time?

  3. Interesting post from Tony Donnelly about Dundee. American oil guy wanted to go to a Celtic game, it was the season when Celtic didn’t get a penalty in a season. The game was against Dundee Utd. After the game we got a taxi to the Celtic Club( no idea in Dundee where it was). Anyway, when we got to the Club, it was like Celtic had won the European Cup, we got beat from Utd. We stayed their for hours, It would be a Club that would cause Fergus sleepless nights.Non stop rebel songs. I would have not been surprised if Gerry Adams had came in, it was utter bedlam. The American had not a clue what the locals were saying, nor did I but they were uber Tims, but he loved it.

Catman, your some man, that’s what ye call taking one for the team. Did she have anything to say about Cowiebhoy’s seat being auctioned off to the highest bidder?

Auldheid made a good point re the Guidetti signing. If it has been approved wouldnt that mean UEFA have to accept it as being a registration before the deadline?

I rate Guidetti as the best forward we have signed in a long time but dont judge the Bhoy until he is fully fit. H.H.

  8. What will this mean for Celtic?

Only mentions top 5 leagues but will previous winners get an extra few points and will all league winners be higher up the rankings?

A Uefa coaches’ meeting has been told that European football’s governing body are looking to change how Champions League clubs are seeded.

Currently, clubs are ranked over five years, which has recently left national champions Manchester City, Juventus and Paris St-Germain among the second seeds. One option is guaranteed top-seeding to winners of high-ranked leagues.

However, coaching adviser and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson thinks that seeding is not important. “You take what you get and your performance is the most important thing,” says the Scot.

  12. While the ibrox naming rights is a jolly old wheeze I can’t see where the £1 figure is coming from, it wasn’t mentioned in the sandy easdale interview. Has someone dropped this to the press as a piece of tactical mischief making? “Use it, but don’t quote me”, the number of media outlets repeating the story suggests that there’s widespread trust in the source.

More than likely Ashley has bought the right to rename, and as soon as he exercises the right further fixed payments kick in, this would explain his reticence to rename ibrox until rangers are back in the premier league. It’s certainly not due to fan pressure, he changed St James Park at the drop of a hat amid fan protest and that was supposedly the team he supports.

The naming rights probably isn’t such a bad story for rangers financially, but someone certainly wanted it to appear so.

    HT, Fascinating, genuinely.

Since as far back as I can remember I’ve been aware of the high ratio of women to men in both Dundee and Nottingham.

    ……………………………………………………………

You say fascination I say perving:_)

Dumfries, the hometown of Mrs acgr also has a large ratio of women to men, something ridiculous like 4:1. Now them’s good odds in anyone’s book. Even Davie Dodds would have been in with a shout in Dumfers.

“Donetsk is a very small city, so it was tough to live in,” O’Dea said. “There wasn’t much to do, but the people were the plus side to it. Once you get to know them they’re lovely and very friendly. Once I got used to their way, I was absolutely fine, but did I enjoy living there? I’d be lying if I said I did. I enjoyed the football and loved the experience of it.

Darren O’Dea has played 20 times for the Republic of Ireland

“There were a lot of things that were difficult at the time, but it’s made me a more rounded person and opened up my eyes to the world. It was a different type of football. There were a lot of Brazilians and it’s a fantastic league in terms of standard, but things outside of football got involved and it became a place I couldn’t live in any more.”

O’Dea is still completing his injury rehab, with the help of the Celtic physios, and he will train with his former club while he regains fitness. As a free agent, he can join a club at any time.

At 27 he is on the verge of a critical period of his career. O’Dea has 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland, has won two titles with Celtic and played in Europe. He made his Celtic debut at 18, then four games later was playing at the San Siro in a European tie.

O’Dea has played for six clubs, but has never settled into a prolonged spell at any one side, other than Celtic.

“For the last five seasons I’ve had regular football, it’s just that I’ve moved,” O’Dea said. “I got offered a deal at Leeds – I was looking at houses down there, it was a three-year deal and they changed their mind. It was very strange.

“Then I went to Toronto, was made captain, it was a fantastic place to play, but the way my contract was built they had to change it to fit within the salary cap, so I decided it was better to move. Then it was Ukraine and a war kicks off. The next decision I take I won’t rush into.

“If I can find the right club, for a long-term thing where I can settle down, that would be ideal. If it came to it, I’d be comfortable taking a short-term thing. I’ve been out of sight and out of mind in the UK, which can be an issue, but if I have to prove that again so be it, I’m hungry to do that.”

Do you have much previous knowledge of the Bhoy or are your views based on the same YouTube video I’ve watched where he scores a few goals for Feynoord and does a silly wee trick and puts the ball over his mates head?

  19. This is consistent with the Villa signing of Cleverley. They started processing the paperwork before the deadline. They argued that their intent to sign was made before the deadline. There had been problems loading the signing up to the UEFA system. The FA accepted this and processed it.

At least the FA felt they had the authority to make their own decision.

Then again they think they are above and beyond FIFA. They at least back their teams without fear or criticism.

Pity SFA cannot say the same.

I am reading Celtics Paranoia at the moment so maybe I am seeing faults in the SFA that are not there.
