Long term more important with Guidetti

415

The most important news concerning John Guidetti is no longer whether Fifa recognise his registration, it’s whether John is keen to remain in Glasgow beyond May next year.

The player is not eligible for the Europa League group stage, and it is not critically important he joins for Premiership football in the first half of the season.  He can join in January for the league run-in, and hopefully the latter part of the Europa League, but as we know, the next major event on Celtic’s horizon is next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which then out-of-contract Guidetti would be a valuable addition for.

Whatever the Fifa outcome, the player will be planning where he wants to play beyond this season and it’s unlikely Scotland will have previously featured heavily in his mind.  Monday was a bit of a shambles for the player but he got to see how Celtic operate.  Hopefully the positive sentiment will convince him this is a platform he can build his career on.

It’s just incredible that Mike Ashley had Charles Green in such a place that he was able to secure naming rights of The Stadium Formerly Referred to as Ibrox for £1.  Whether he exercises this right or not is moot.  The fact that he can, means that Newco Rangers have to accommodate him in the knowledge he is able to call in his marker at any time.

The only curious thing, is why was this particular piece of dirty washing hung out at this time?

  2. If we do manage to get John Guidetti on a contract, it could be a stroke of genius. The young lad had class before his illness, if he rediscovers that type of form he would be the type of signing we can only dream about. Of course that is a huge IF, ideal scenario would be to get him now, see what we have by Christmas, if its positive sign him on a Bosmann at Christmas, we might have to pay Man City some training compensation but it would be peanuts compared to his worth. Swedish, Feyenord, 7, Celtic.

Does it strike anybody else as strange that so many of our overseas posters, having taken their own families & their own aspirations for the future as far from the UK as is physically possible, now tell us how much better it is in our unequal Union & that we should be wary of trying to separate from our erstwhile benefactors & protectors?

Only those of us who actually live here seem to think we can better look after our own affairs.

  4. for his signature and Celtic will be out priced. H.H.

  5. TinyTim, I’m not sure that what you say is true, his problems emerged from a freak food poisoning that affected his nervous system.

  6. twists n’turns

In the version advanced by Phil, he would have it that Ashley sneaked a clause in under Charlie’s radar and that Charlie has been trying to buy him out of that clause before it did damage.

I have some scepticism, justified by that barrel of snakes, that most of their wars and disagreements are phony wars. I suspect, Ashley, whose involvement is presented as largely contractual and mercenary, in that he owns the company stores, can be presented as a Convenient Bogey Man to take the smell away from them.

Well, at least until he has to take his place, under Bugg**’s Turn, to be the front man for the Monorail Project.

Unlike Cults Bhoy, I find it hard to imagine a more appropriate gang of wolves to be set loose on their assets, after they all bought in, to a man, the same club continuity deception.

Like Cults, I would have had sympathy for the ordinary Gers fan if they had said, “Game’s up! We bust ourselves signing and paying for players and trophies we could not afford. Liquidation means the end of Rangers the original club. Let’s start again!”

Since that did not happen, I believe that tonydonnelly has a handy phrase that covers my sentiments towards them.

Ashley obviously gave Green financial assistance when he took over the club and selling him the naming rights for a pound was clearly a sweetener.

“How do you sell naming rights to a stadium?”

Lawyers draw up contracts and the rights are sold at an agreed price.

“Is it a sale that would survive administration?”

Almost definitely. Depends on what has been stated in the contract right enough, but administration is unlikely to be an issue.

    “Would it survive liquidation?”

Depends on what happens to the stadium should the club be liquidated and the terms of the contract. But in the case of the Rangers group of clubs, anything appears possible.

“Would it prevent anyone granting a security over the stadium?”

Owning the stadium and owning the naming rights are two different things.

It’s too late to sell Murray Park. They need cash now. There’s no planning application in to turn it into residential property. Who would buy it and at what price, with no consent for a change of use? Only somebody willing to take a punt, and the cash they need would be more than a punt.

There’s only one group that would. The SFA, for use as a national training facility – except they’ve already entered a deal with Herroitt Watt – so that’s blown.

twists n turns – rephrase your question into:

“Sorry to ask you to backtrack, but can someone tell me please why a known charlatan who has helped himself to millions from the carcass of the club flogged the naming rights for a quid, to a multi-millionaire whose only interest is making money out of the deal? What reasons are given? I guess there must be an obvious one but not having had a chance today to review the press, I am in the dark.”

If ever I am in the dark – I look for the obvious answer.

  15. Tiny Tim –

Sorry mate, but if that was true, why didn’t Celtic just send him home? Why did they try to push it over the line? Why are they now trying hard to get the signing ratified?

I know for a fact that the problem with the transfer was caused by Man City not providing the correct documentation. Celtic officials spent over an hour trying to get City to fix the problem. Why would they do that if they really didn’t want the player?

They could easily have let it go and blamed City for the collapse of the transfer and that would have been no lie.

    Hope you are well mate.

Administration Game. …could put all assets on a conveyor belt line up creditors and the one who can remember most after a minute wins. …

  17. As to the timing, it’s one of two things.

    1) a desperate plea for people to take up the share issue, as there’s nothing available for a quick sale;

    2) it’s a signal to sell while you can, as they know the share issue is destined to fail.

  18. weeminger, Was there not a strong rumour that the Glasgow Warriors Rugby Union team were interested. I assume if they had a definite sale they could get a Bridging. Another possibility is that one of the hedge funds already involved could buy it at a knock down price plus a lease back.

  19. Twist in turns

The sale of rights for £1 was in exchange for a line of credit without which RIFC would have hit administration in the infancy of its life.

No point in leaseback deals though. Their cost base is too high and thought would just increase it. They actually need an admin to cut costs.
