Long term more important with Guidetti

415

The most important news concerning John Guidetti is no longer whether Fifa recognise his registration, it’s whether John is keen to remain in Glasgow beyond May next year.

The player is not eligible for the Europa League group stage, and it is not critically important he joins for Premiership football in the first half of the season.  He can join in January for the league run-in, and hopefully the latter part of the Europa League, but as we know, the next major event on Celtic’s horizon is next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which then out-of-contract Guidetti would be a valuable addition for.

Whatever the Fifa outcome, the player will be planning where he wants to play beyond this season and it’s unlikely Scotland will have previously featured heavily in his mind.  Monday was a bit of a shambles for the player but he got to see how Celtic operate.  Hopefully the positive sentiment will convince him this is a platform he can build his career on.

It’s just incredible that Mike Ashley had Charles Green in such a place that he was able to secure naming rights of The Stadium Formerly Referred to as Ibrox for £1.  Whether he exercises this right or not is moot.  The fact that he can, means that Newco Rangers have to accommodate him in the knowledge he is able to call in his marker at any time.

The only curious thing, is why was this particular piece of dirty washing hung out at this time?

John Guidetti has had serial injury problems.

He is the perfect example of a player that you would want on loan ,with an option to buy at a pre arranged price.

Celtic dithered because the Septovic deal came through at the last gasp.

We probably don’t have it in our budget to pay the wages of the two players without releasing another.

Celtic were in total control of the situation.

Celtic have gotten the outcome that they wanted.

I’ve been posting that all week.

It was always going to be first come first served and the other would be binned.

The only problem is that if Scepovic gets injured we are back to square one.

PL was never going to sign 2 strikers.

Man City are being blamed for taking their time getting the required documentation to us.

Why would they do that if they wanted the player moved on?

    Someone is telling porkies.

And there’s Paul67 saying we don’t need him ’til January, ffs!

    I give up.

not 100% sure but my best guesses to your answer would be

How do you sell naming rights to a stadium? By entering into a contract giving the other party exclusive rights to insist that the stadium is renamed (and referred to in all official literature) to a name to be selected by the buyer , possibly from a pre-agreed list of names , for an agreed period of time.

Is it a sale that would survive administration? Not unless secured against ,say, the stadium or some other heritable asset and , even then , – and this for me is the interesting bit – the contract is likely to provide for payment of an agreed sum or liquidate damages , if the club/ administrator / liquidator fails to implement the renaming.

Would it survive liquidation? See above

Would it prevent anyone granting a security over the stadium? It might but only for a future security against the stadium and then that would depend on the ranking of the securities , usually which one came first.

The name of the stadium is largely irrelevant from a security point of view given that properties now have their own unique identifier number at the Land Register – a Title number – which remains constant irrespective of the name of the property. An analogy would be your own house – suppose you changed it from Dunroamin’ To Nia- Roo you would still have to pay your mortgage.

Why would CG sell for a pound?

A cynic might say that the whole purpose of this was to give Mike Ashley a “right ” to rename the stadium , secured against the stadium or other assets , full in the knowledge that it was never likely to be implemented so that any liquidate penalties in the contract would then kick in , allowing the security to be called up and the property repossessed.

All total speculation but they are through the looking glass over there…

If I am following the Guidetti loan move correctly the error was not Celtics it was Stoke city not sending the correct paperwork.Celtic had then to contact Man.City to get in touch with Stoke and get the correct paper work to Celtic so the error lies with Stoke City.On a totaly different point I am surprised to see Celtic supporters saying they are sorry for the poor Rangers fans.I have to say they brought on themselves and they were never sorry for Celtic fans when they cheated there way to nine in a row. Also there unpaid tax would have paid for more nurses teachers and policemen on the beat and while most of us paid our tax they didnt.I can truthfully say I hope they go bust again and they have to pull Ibrokes down and build a supermarket I am not a bitter man just an angry man that they up to now have got away with it. If the story about Green blowing £250,000 on legal fees to try to wriggle out of the deal is true then he appears to have been duped by Ashley, which makes me think the deal maybe isn’t terribly explicit.

I don’t suppose it’s worth the mental energy involved in trying to figure out what’s going on, it’s just too Byzantine.

  9. No matter how the Happy Clappers dress it up, the whole Guidetti problem lies with trying to be smarter than smart and delaying business to the lat minute of transfer windows.

Had things been done sooner any errors on Man City’s part could have been easily rectified.

  11. A pound, a pound, my Kingdom for a pound !

Mike Ashley was surely duped, when he paid a pound for the Ibrox naming rights, sure Craig Whyte bought the whole damn operation for a pound

    Duped I tell ye, duped

Just for the record, I have absolutely no sympathy with any hun or sevconian over their clubs troubles, long may it rain over them!

Tell me this, when Charles Green “bought” the history, did he also buy the bit about not signing Catholics for almost a century? Or was that bit not included? Just wondering like!

Howabout, “the no seriously, I’ve been duped stadium” its kinda gotta a snappy ring to it.

  12. On a lighter note. Wee Danny goes to confession. “Bless me father for I have sinned, I have wished that all Sevco supporters were dead and they never get into heaven.” Priest replies ” You should never wish death on anybody so for that you will say three Our Fathers and three Hail Marys. As for the second part, don’t worry thats sorted already”

    EL

    I saw that.

250k in legal fees with no actual court action raised is going some , where the evidence that was actually spent on that dispute where there’s no public record of court proceedings , although I’m open to correction on that.

There is something fundamentally odd about giving away something so valuable but , as you say, its too involved to waste any huge amount of time or effort working it out.

All that matters is that another potential source of income has gone for no proper consideration.

  14. “No matter how the Happy Clappers dress it up, the whole Guidetti problem lies with trying to be smarter than smart and delaying business to the lat minute of transfer windows.”

The problem was that the Scepovic paperwork was all done and dusted days before!

So there was no faffing about getting forms filled in on the last day.

When Scepovic did sign, plan B to ditch the other striker began.

    And it’s still going on.

I couldn’t disagree with your post more – why would we want to sell our stadium name for filthy lucre?

I realise some people get emotional about this, I agree there must be limits to what kind of companies we align ourselves with, but we already have alcohol sponsors on the shirts, nike swoosh on the shirt, nike swoosh on the seats, nike ads(amongst many others) plastered all over the stadium, it wouldn’t make any difference to me if the stadium was called ‘The Nike Arena’ or ‘The Nike Celtic Stadium.

The team on the park is what concerns me most.

  18. Man City must have a minimum of 8 homegrown players in their 25 man Pl squad.

Removing JG would mean this requirement wouldn’t be fulfilled. One of their development/young guns would need to be promoted.
