Long term more important with Guidetti

415

The most important news concerning John Guidetti is no longer whether Fifa recognise his registration, it’s whether John is keen to remain in Glasgow beyond May next year.

The player is not eligible for the Europa League group stage, and it is not critically important he joins for Premiership football in the first half of the season.  He can join in January for the league run-in, and hopefully the latter part of the Europa League, but as we know, the next major event on Celtic’s horizon is next season’s Champions League qualifiers, which then out-of-contract Guidetti would be a valuable addition for.

Whatever the Fifa outcome, the player will be planning where he wants to play beyond this season and it’s unlikely Scotland will have previously featured heavily in his mind.  Monday was a bit of a shambles for the player but he got to see how Celtic operate.  Hopefully the positive sentiment will convince him this is a platform he can build his career on.

It’s just incredible that Mike Ashley had Charles Green in such a place that he was able to secure naming rights of The Stadium Formerly Referred to as Ibrox for £1.  Whether he exercises this right or not is moot.  The fact that he can, means that Newco Rangers have to accommodate him in the knowledge he is able to call in his marker at any time.

The only curious thing, is why was this particular piece of dirty washing hung out at this time?

There were that many types of shirts kicking around at that time; Dr. Kildare (favoured by the Dave Clark 5?), button-down collars, epaulettes………………

suits with 12″ vents, wide lapels, slanted pockets + a ticket pocket…………

John White Dessert Boots and the Gabardine Raincoat with fly-front buttons…………

    throw-in a Lambretta and you had a ready-made Mod!

  2. In the new edition of CQN Magazine we examine the club’s strategy with new manager Ronny Deila under the spotlight alongside Celtic’s CEO Peter Lawwell.

Tommy Gemmell talks to the magazine and tells the players to get us back to Warsaw in May as a way of making up for the disappointment in the Champions League qualifiers.

We have a special feature on Celtic goalkeepers and particular focus is on Faither as the Lions called him – Celtic’s best ever goalkeeper Ronnie Simpson. We feature ten other Celtic goalkeepers as the best of the rest…

We look back at the games against Dukla on the road to Lisbon, Billy McNeill talks to us about the 4-2 game, ahead of the great new CQN Book Caesar & The Assassin, we find out what it was like travelling on a supporters bus in the 60s and 70s during our 9IAR years, we look at Celtic’s Nearly Men, Auldheid writes about The Wee Tax Case, Neganon2 is the Alternative CEO, SFTBs talks about Moneyball, BRTH on charity and much more in over 100 pages.

We also have a wee message for Legia Warsaw.

The magazine will be out over the weekend.

Why is the dirty washing coming out?

Perhaps because there’s more to come out of this sorry tale?

The jute industry in Dundee employed lots of women . Lots of single women moved there to work .Single women with a disposable income .

Same thing applied to Nottingham ( lace and cigarettes )

    ——————————–

    Fascinating, genuinely.

Since as far back as I can remember I’ve been aware of the high ratio of women to men in both Dundee and Nottingham.

I also knew of the associated industries; jute, jam and journalism in Dundee and fags and lace in Nottingham.

However, I’d never connected the industrial growth of these commodities with the higher than normal female population in both cities.

Every day is indeed a school day on here. Thanks for that.

  6. I remember in 1976 when Bjorn Borg won his first Wimbledon title in 1976.

I went into a sports shop in Glasgow not long after to buy a replica of the short sleeve shirt he wore.

    £27.50!

    I politely declined.

I could get a suit made te measure for that money.

If you’ve anyone in your life who is fond of the Ibrox brand then making them a cuppa and giving them a wee hug might be in order.

I remember it well because my girlfriend’s sister worked for a bookie in Glasgow and

a wee while before the tournament started she told us they had got a note from head office saying not to accept bets of more than £50.00 on Borg to win.

Borg at that time was relatively unknown and had been knocked in early round the previous two years.

    The rest is history.

I thought he had no chance so didny back him!

There is no real ratio difference in Nottingham now between the sexes since 2001 census. Pop 270000 appx

“In fact the more credible source of the myth is the town’s lace industry heritage. According to city records, in the 1860’s at the height of the lace industry in the UK it is said that 110,000 women were employed in the lace industry, either working in the mills or from home. These days of course, very few work in the lace industry.”

  12. Bath Hotel,

I was sitting very quietly there one night with a pal as we were both not quite of the age to be there legally. I was sitting with my back to the wall – he was facing me.

We had been playing tennis that day and were a bit tired. He leant back to stretch, hands behind his head, just as a very well endowed young lady was squeezing past his chair to go to the toilet.

As he made contact with her chest, I could see the look of ……..What’s this?……..Oh my God……face going red ……..as his hands quietly slunk back into position by his side.

Still laugh about it to this day.

You’ll be aware then that the place to be is St Petersburg. It seems that years of warring took its toll on the fittest young males, and the gene pool took a hammering. I’m told by guys I know who’ve been there that its typical, like many big Russian cities, to see (if you can imagine) Kim Basinger walking down the street hand in hand with Charlie Drake.
