Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

  1. DELANEYS DUNKY @ 10:02 PM,

It does seem unfair that many “innocents” when the section is closed, will either have to relocate or loose their chance to see the games.

But UEFA closed a section of Windsor Park for Linfield’s misdemeanours, imagine they close the whole of the standing section at Celtic Park.

Firstly there are close to 3000 Supporters that could be effected. Secondly there is a great Celtic Iniative that could fail and put safe standing back years.

Look at UEFA’S charge sheet the Banner issue and H&S issue came from the same section!?

    they don’t feel the pain….

coz, they urny Celtic supporters !

So, they have to be, made to do it !

    But, problem is….

The PLC know that, the present supporter base…

    are, incapable of rebellion !

    And, that……is the problem !

So, the PLC urny the problem……

its you, the Celtic support, which in the main…..

    middle aged yuppies wi i-pads….

Ah mean, you have to make the PLC, deal with this….

but, yeez don’t have the balls and, the PLC and,….

the Orange Masonic Establishment know it !

So, when the huns walk away, unchallenged….

for, 25 years of Murray Mibbery…..

Don’t blame the PLC for not acting….

    But, instead….blame the 53,000 endorsements….

of the PLC…..they brought in Brendan…..

to keep yeez away from the front door on Kerrydale Street…

    looks like its worked !

Oh how I wish that,Gerry McNee was still on the scene…..

to send another hearse up the Celtic Way….

just to wake up the, 53,000 Snoozers oot their slumber….

One year doon the road, when 25 years of Murray Mibbery….

is swept under the same big Masonic rug as, the sacking of Manchester 2008, there will be a new plaque, probably crowd funded by the 53,000 Scooby-doo’s! erected on the Celtic Way, which will read…..

“Below is the coffin which carries the remains of the Celtic Football Club 1994, formerly known as, The Celtic Football and Athletic company 1888. The remains are secured with 53,000 nails, hammered into the coffin by the, non streetwise faithful, 2018.”

    So, desperately sad.

  26. Neymar: How can PSG afford to pay £196m for the Barcelona forward?

    By Saj Chowdhury

    BBC Sport

7 hours ago From the section European Football 154

    Neymar

Barcelona signed Neymar from Brazilian club Santos for £48.6m in 2013

Paris St-Germain are reportedly ready to pay £196m for Barcelona forward Neymar.

One hundred and ninety-six million pounds for one player. Just let that sink in.

It is more than double the current world record fee of £89m paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba and almost two and a half times that paid by Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Both United and Real have an estimated worth of almost £3bn, according to Forbes, so it is not beyond the realms of comprehension that they could afford Neymar.

But how are Paris St-Germain, not in the top 10 of the world’s richest clubs, able to spend almost a third of their value on one player?

Latest Neymar gossip – ‘Brazilian has 90% chance of leaving Barcelona’

    Could they structure the payments?

    Neymar

Will it be £196m in one go? Instalments? A deposit-plus-interest-free payments for three years?

Football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson of Sheffield Hallam University shed some light on how they might come to an agreement:

“What you tend to find is when clubs buy a player – for large amounts or small – they will stagger these payments over a course of a contract,” Wilson says.

“Let’s assume PSG pay £200m for Neymar and he signs a 10-year contract – they will pay £20m per year to Barcelona. Of course, the selling club has to agree to that length of time.

“You expect there to be a decent upfront payment though. When Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid from Manchester United for £80m in 2009, the English club demanded the fee was paid in full before it was allowed to happen.

“Regarding Neymar, I think you’ll probably see a substantial initial payment – let’s say £100m – and a couple of payments afterwards to make the balance.”

How do you recoup that money?

    Neymar

PSG are set to pay huge bucks, and will be paying huge wages, for a player who is not only highly talented but also highly marketable.

According to Forbes, the Brazilian is the 18th highest-paid sports star in the world with £11.54m earned from his salary and £17m from endorsements alone, thanks to deals with Nike, Gillette, Panasonic and Beats by Dre.

That is great for him, but how can PSG get a slice – a large one at that?

“I think they’ll generate funds from commercial endorsements and additional sponsorships because he’s obviously a very marketable player,” Wilson says.

“PSG will be able to come to agreement with the player and his agent over image rights, and how best they can use him to promote the club.

“I think when you sign a player of that magnitude they tend to bring a level of excitement, so commercial enterprises will be more interested in partnerships with PSG.”

    Neymar

There are, of course, shirt sales. Fans of PSG and football fans in general will flock to the shops to buy the new Neymar shirts. But how much will the cash will the club get from the tills?

Their shirts are sponsored by Nike and, according to reports, the club are paid about 24m euros (£21.5m) per season by the sportswear company.

“There’s a myth around shirt sales,” adds Wilson. “The shirt manufacturer will take the lion’s share of the profits from the sales.

“So, for example, the £75m Adidas pay Manchester United per year is a fixed fee. It doesn’t matter how many shirts they sell and the players that help sell those, they’ll only have that £75m per year.

“You can never safely think the investment in one player will be paid back through a revenue-generating point of view.

“However, the impact of the playing success of the team as a result of having Neymar might result them in generating more money which, in turn, could recover what they will have spent on him.”

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
