Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

A fart is illicit in UEFA eyes and ears, if we want the money we have to accept their rules.

FIFA and UEFA have been proven to be corrupt yet we still line up to accept their cash, it is what it is

  3. I have actually read the GB’s statement before making comment on it and I don’t believe it deserves the condemnation it is receiving from some quarters. Although I might not agree with all of it, it does make some salient points and raises some issues that we as Celtic supporters need to take on board, unless of course you’re happy to have been cheated for years and are willing to continue being treated that way.

Like every other argument the truth lies somewhere in between the opposing views. As a good friend and die-hard Tim said to me the other night if the Board continues to do nothing about the cheating and governance of the game he will revert to being a Celtic fan and no longer a supporter.

scullybhoy, that’s just sick and shows how football is quickly becoming a circus event.

TV rites are going to kill football as a sport worth watching.

Could have been the depiction of Frank Spencer, balaclaved up, cool shades?

or, Sniper Brendan at work, piss take?

or, Celtic admitting illicit guilt before any fallout..

  6. Burnley78…..ranti g? Plc dont mind ttacking own ns. not visiting fans..as fo for 20 years cheating. en hat is ok for you…rnevermind the next 20 Yyears…they do whatever they want…on and off park

  7. The Huddle,

yeah i agree with its their rules so we stick by them,

i just think the banners can be anything you want them to be,

there was no reference to the IRA or any other oranisations,

and the reference to army, plenty teams sing of their managers blue/red/green and white army,

Celtic will meekly accept the fines because they dont want to rock the boat.

Am I correct in saying that Celtic were given 5 charges over the 2 legs v Linfield?

    Leigh Griffiths scarf.

One the fault of Celtic supporters.

    Agenda here.

Pog- i posted earlier, this should have been a partnership with the GB and the Club, years ago, and if the Board thinks this will cloud the cheating huns argument, i think otherwise

I don’t think any club has successfully appealed a fine, UEFA are gods, even Barca one of the richest clubs in the world failed with the Catalan protest.

In my opinion, this is an unwelcome distraction from the main prize of stripping the titles. Whilst, I do not agree with the pyros, flares etc, the banners have been allowed to be blown out of proportion through pretend offensiveness. Yes, we should box cleverer in the future, given what we are up against.

If Celtic plc could also put as much urgency and focus into the main prize as they have here, I will be absolutely delighted and totally surprised.

If I can ask you one thing, but to read The Green Brigade statement again. I am not getting the overreaction today. Whilst I do not want any ground closure or fines imposed, I think both sides should sit down and find a middle ground. It would be a shame not to, as this would be playing direct into the zombies hand.

If we divide, we give them a chance to win.

    Gordy64,

Nothing made them illicit in the eyes of UEFA. Nor were they illicit. Someone anyone taking offence is enough, some one has to pay the cash for the jolly and that’s why fines are collected.

Respect for your balanced perspective re the GB situ etc.

A serious question. What course of action would you advise PL to take given it seems no other clubs are not looking likely to back any reopening of the case re titles etc ?

    ……

Now there’s a prime example of what I was talking about.

Sorry, none of the masons are doing feck all.

I’ll tell ye what that waster should do.

Say that as the Supreme Court have found Rangers guilty of cheating we demand justice.

The boys in RES 12 will fill in the evidence of side letters.

Moore,De Boer and Flo nailed for starters.

Now,unless I have this wrong Auldheid,Canamalar will agree?

    ================================

Now now Canman. I never suggested they would do the thinking, I was only thinking a banner by them would have caught the eye and I’m good at banner words that do that.

You should know me better than that to even suggest I would be so daft, but at least you haven’t denied their hypocrisy point.
