Look at me, but not at my face

2751

I don’t get the flares thing. It’s not a part of my going-to-see-Celtic tradition. But if it was my thing, I’d have the courage of my convictions, I wouldn’t hide the fact.

There are consequences of bringing flares to football games, always has been. By not having the courage to openly ignite them, those consequences are not personalised to the individuals who regard this as an integral part of what they do at a football game, they are visited upon everyone in the vicinity, as well as the club.

The problem with flares at Celtic games is those who bring them hide the fact – as they clearly know there are consequences, and presumably aren’t too interested in taking responsibility for them. ‘Keen on flares, not keen enough to stand up for them’, is why the issue persists.

I get the attraction to bright, shiny, things, but this isn’t a campaign to bring the vote to disenfranchised people against a force who will execute the offender on sight. It’s about bringing a flare to a football game. If it’s so important, do it openly. If you think Health and Safety are simply wrong, find the evidence and use it in court. Have the courage to change something.  I know lots of Celtic fans who have had the courage to put their name to something they believed in, in recent years.  It’s seldom easy, but it has been done.

But in the years of this debate no one has ever pointed to evidence that igniting flares in a football ground is a clever thing to do. It’s just a ‘look at me’ exercise, ‘But don’t look at my face’, of course.

  3. When one feels strongly enough to take to the streets to demonstrate their disaffection with any situation, be it living conditions, political issues, nuclear arms, poverty, one is usually joined by an anarchic, politically driven mob, aggressively pushing an agenda, usually, IMO, loosely aligned to one’s situation. They will produce banners and placards, lead chants and form waves of bodies pushing at any given boundary. They are rebelling against the establishment in their own minds. They are looking for the man to blame. Their raison d’etre.

They care little for the issue that has brought one to the streets.

They simply use the crowd to push their politically driven agenda; to strike against the establishment.

They use and abuse the very people and causes they claim to be supporting.

They are extremists with little regard for the well being of others. They live for the excitement of confrontation. They seek no reconciliation.

For them it is the violent struggle, the confrontation, that is important. The opportunity to strike against the man that is important. They rejoice in the confrontation, seek it, feel justification in it.

    Plan for it.

They are dangerous people in that their sociopathology carries scant regard for the rights and needs of others, save themselves.

They will infiltrate many groups and causes and will use and abuse them for their own political ends, caring little for the sentiment of the root cause.

They are ultimately destructive, anarchic and antisocial.

    They are easy to identify.

All one has to do is consider what they are doing and ask oneself,

Is that why I am here; Do they represent me and my values?

Good Morning Bhoys from a dull Central Scotland.I am sorry to say I can see only one ending in this arguement between the Celtic board and the green brigade. I can see if they dont tow the party line Celtic banning them altogther and that would be a great pity as they encourage the good atmosphere at Parkhead However, like every other fan in any part of the ground they must follow the rules of good behavior. They are saying they will not change and ( for me im putting on my hard hat ) that puts them on a direct collision with the Celtic Board and as I have already said there can only be one winner. H.H.

OUTSTANDING post, pretty much what I have been saying for several years, the malcontents and fifth columnists will always be there to defend the Ultras, in fact when I came on this morning I honestly laughed at many posts from last night from them, they actually attacked James Forrest called him all sorts of things that they obviously haven’t a clue what they where posting and had never read a thing that the guy had written, now JF does not need me or anyone else for that matter to back him up, he’s big ugly and clever enough to hold his own corner, personally I have disagreed with many of JF articles and on the other hand agreed with many too, but always with respect, a word that was forgotten last night.

When the masses gang up on you in here, it’s gets like the buckfast statement from the Uni Ultras yesterday, they just loss the plot, whatabouterie and spin and squirrels all over the place avoidance deflection and pompous and arrogance, the jig is up the Ultras took on 60,000 Celtic Fans, only way that’s going to end is the Ultra mob )( necked out of Celtic Park, let’s face it the buckfast Charlie statement was….close down Celtic Park? Hey! We don’t give a …k, let there be no kidding on that point, because as sure as s..t sticks to a goats )( that’s what that statement meant.

  15. Stairheedrammy on

Lots of hysteria on here and elsewhere describing the GB statement as a confrontational we will do as we want rant. What I read in it was an account of attempts at working with the PLC, only to find the disorganisation within CP and the reluctance of the board to stand up for its own support preventing that. This is supported by the reduction in the routine use of pyro, most recently only used on special events I.e. the Lisbon celebration league winning game. The statement ends by saying the group won’t give up its principles, translated by some as `we will do what we want` Does anyone have proof this is what they are saying, or does it fit with the media panic driven agenda currently being promoted.

  16. Last paragraph of the Herald article will worry those who allowed themselves to get wrapped up in Murray’s EBT scam…

BDO will now also pursue more than 80 former players and staff, like Murray and former club captain Barry Ferguson, who benefited from an elaborate tax avoidance scheme – Employee Benefit Trusts, which the Supreme Court ruled were disguised salary payments. The recipients will be forced to pay back millions of pounds to the HMRC through BDO or face bankruptcy. It is believed that the Revenue has recovered more than £1bn

  17. I go to Celtic Park to watch Celtic, not see pyro or political displays. The atmosphere the GB can create is welcome, but it’s not what I go to see.

The GB statement seems to assume their politics (I assume from the banners they want a return to violent Irish republicanism?) are of unique importance to Celtic and its fans. Indeed, central to what it means to be “Celtic”.

This is a dangerously misguided assumption on their, and I suspect it will lead ultimately to their disappearance from Celtic Park (and hence, de facto disappearance from anywhere).

If I were PL I would:

    * Ask the GB to release a statement apologising to their fellow fans for the dangerous pyros and inappropriate banners.

    * Ask the GB to publicly and specifically apologise to Brendan for involving him in this debacle.

    * Ask the GB to sign up to a code of conduct whereby banners and displays must be approved in advance by the club and its SLO.

    * In return, the club will safeguard the safe-standing area for the GB, and help with the cost and logistics of displays, as well as promote their charity work more widely.

What we have is a group of people who despise the PLC so much that they are prepared to damage Celtic, even in these great times. I get the impression they couldn’t care less if we finished 4th and we were skint as skint can be, as long as they get their way. In fact the cozy relationship between the PLC and Brendan will be causing consternation. Their banner backfired spectacularly. Dissenting voices against the group are met with ‘anti Celtic’ jibes. It was something that dawned on me a while ago. They care more about themselves than Celtic.

That’s a big, and wrong, assumption. It was a GIRUY to the racist and sectarian huns across the stadium from them. The banners were poorly judged but its interesting to note how Tims accept Hunnish behavior as normal and get so fired up when someone gives it back.

I don’t think most are following any kind of media agenda when interpreting what the GB statement said. They are simply reading what was in the statement themselves and drawing their own conclusions. If the GB are incapable of releasing a clear statement then who’s fault is that?

But let’s take interpretation out of the equation and rely purely on actions. It’s clear that no matter how the club try to accommodate them, the GB are happy to keep on doing whatever they want. It’s gratuitous self-promotion and disregard for the consequences on Celtic. All a great shame since they bring colour and noise to the stadium. But for me they are nothing more than a side show – not the main event.

Either way, they are responsible for their own actions.

I am not a regular at Celtic Park or away games it has to be said,my place of address and health issues prevent me.The GB are Celtic fans and I would urge them strongly,KEEP IT CELTIC.Those who are of an anti-Celltic persuasion,in my estimation, are lapping the latest ”tiff ” up big time.Yes I was going to the games sometimes twice or three times a month depending on location so ”’ WE. ”’ could make the boat home.We then endured awkward moments being stopped at seaports and airports in the 1970 and 1980s because of the situation in the North. Some Celtic fans feel uneasy when ‘certain ‘ banners’ are unfurled, that should be taken into account.’THEY’ know what and who we are.If you profess, and I for one moment do not doubt it,Celtic to the core, then come to the games entertain those with your songs, chants and amusing banners.

It looks like another day of hysterical McCarthyism, timposters and wind ups.

For the ‘Reds Under The Bed Brigade’ here is what the GB said,

“Following the club statement on Friday, we take this opportunity to accept full responsibility for both the pyrotechnics display to celebrate the achievements of the Lisbon Lions at the Hearts match in May and our ‘Brendan’s Undefeated Army’ tifo during the match against Linfield on Wednesday evening. While we are disappointed to hear of the impending two match ban that we face, we know that in the sanitised world of Scottish football the actions of an Ultra group like ours may have consequences for our members. We do however completely oppose collective punishment and a blanket ban on all fans in our block is disproportionate and unjust therefore we call on the board to revise this decision.

As a group we are defined by our style of support and our politics, both of which the club are happy to benefit from when it suits their agenda. Almost a year ago, after much immediate criticism, we brought worldwide adulation on the club for our show of solidarity with the people of Palestine and the subsequent charity fundraising which was endorsed by the Celtic support. What isn’t common knowledge is if it had not been for this incredible response, we would have faced the same punishment as we currently face. In light of this, and of the condemnation of banners and songs from Wednesday, we refuse to allow a discredited and corrupt organisation like UEFA or a board which has welcomed war criminals and Tory Lords to dictate our moral compass.

Our decision to mark the achievements of 1967 by using pyrotechnics was not taken lightly. We took the required steps to ensure that this was carried out as safely as possible and in the knowledge that we as a group may face potential consequences as a result of it. We believe the scenes that day and the response from the Celtic support proved it to be worthwhile. We have engaged in regular dialogue with the club over this matter throughout the summer and believed to be reaching an amicable outcome, however it seems as if events outside of our control on Wednesday have impacted upon the decision which has now been reached.

The Green Brigade exists to support Celtic in a positive manner and we believe that this current confrontation is unnecessary and avoidable. We welcome Peter Lawwell’s call for dialogue as we have been waiting on his availability for some time. One of our first talking points will be the unnecessary and unsafe policing operation carried out during Wednesday night’s match, which we believe must be the source of one of UEFA’s charges (blocked stairwells) and could only have been designed to antagonise fans in the area. As the evidence below proves, it is bizarre and shameful that the dub have not only blamed the fans for this charge but have cited it as a reason for the ban.

Other pertinent issues to be addressed are the club’s response to the biggest cheating scandal to shame Scottish sport; the insulting of the Celtic support over the Linfield away debacle and negligence of the safety of those they knew would travel; and the silence over the racial and sectarian hatred directed at our player of the year and manager. Typically, the club are quick to bite the hand that feeds them yet reluctant to unite against common detractions.

We have built a positive relationship with the Celtic SLO however we are concerned that his position is nearly untenable due to the manner in which he is continually undermined by Celtic security staff. The SLO is required to “collaborate with the security officer on safety and security-related matters” however has been deliberately excluded from discussions of this nature which is in breach of the UEFA SLO Guidelines, as per article 35. His exclusion is a deliberate tactic adopted by the police and Celtic security to facilitate the targeting of our members.

For over 10 years now the Green Brigade has withstood attacks from Police Scotland and sadly this will always continue. This also will not be our first ban or forced absence from Celtic Park. The Green Brigade has not only survived through the years but we have thrived – we are currently as large and strong as we have ever been. We can assure all that we will be back in Celtic Park soon enough and that we will never allow our style nor our politics to ever be diluted.”

The SPL Commission of course didn’t investigate these payments.

They hid behind the FTT findings. Only interviewing the Conflicted RC Ogilvie.

Now it’s worth considering the FTT case. What were Rangers Innocent off.

Well they were innocent of paying emoluments that should be subject to NI and PAYE, Why? Because they were loans.

Wonder of the Players viewed them as loans or were they duped into thinking this was tax free renumeration?

Why didn’t the Commision interview these Players as witnesses? Why didn’t they try to determine did these side Payments constitute a large part of their Salaries.

Surely that’s the Crux of the matter, in terms of illegal payments and Sporting Advantage.

You’d imagine that these Ex/Players would be part of Football Unions throughout FIFA who may have something to say about the way these Players were flimflamed.
