Look out for personnel and tactical changes

180

We’ve not met Raith Rovers on league duty since Paulo Di Canio salvaged a point with a last minute goal a long time ago but tonight’s game will be the third time we’ve met them on cup duty in four years. For Rovers, tonight will be all about their glory day in 1994, when they beat Celtic on penalties in the League Cup final.

That defeat is a footnote in Celtic history now, but it meant our trophy-less era would stretch to six years before the Scottish Cup win the following May. It was a huge blow. Some Celtic players were immediately discarded by Tommy Burns, more followed in the months to come. If you tune into certain media outlets you can still detect those who hold grievances as Celtic rebuilt without them.

In previous years I’d suggest that a League Cup game was more important than an adjacent league game, but with Aberdeen five points clear, nothing is of more immediate importance than Saturday’s game against Hearts. For the manager and players, progress to the quarter final will be of absolute importance.

Look out for personnel and perhaps tactical changes tonight. How we play has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. Ronny has experimented during the last two games and I’m sure he’ll do again tonight. Should Nadir Ciftci play, look for the areas of the field he occupies, compared to the role Leigh Griffiths performs.

  1. Hi Paul67,

Interesting… Will be intrigued to see who plays and how we set-up.

Hope the live updates team will be giving analysis as once again I’ll be relying on them:-)

    Hail Hail

  2. Just wanted to come on and say a big thank to Canamalar, Auldheid and the rest of the guys who continue – often in the face of doubts inside the Celtic support – to fight on the issue of Res. 12.

Anyone who thought this had gone away should be offering their heartfelt thanks to these guys because they will not let this rest inside, or outside, Parkhead until something is done about it.

I’m not privvy to every development, but I am well aware that there’s hard graft going on behind the scenes and I do believe there’s more than just an apology and acknowledgement of “mistakes made” due here and that we’ll get something approximating justice by the end of it.

    Why do I believe that?

    Three words.

    Bang to rights.

  3. Doe`s last night`s TV broadcast mean that our licence payers money is saved until the draw takes place in the Scottish Cup,apparently Paterson and his fellow commentator are still ensconced in the ibrokes gantry awaiting the inevitable fightback from Warburton`s wonders.;)))

  4. I’ll be missing the game tonight…again. This move to the country has done nothing for my Celtic supporting credentials.

I’m going for GMS as first scorer. And if he doesn’t score first, somebody else will.

  5. Hunderbirds are Gone on

I was torn in two last night. I really do not wish to legitimise the new team in any way. I didn’t watch the game, but could not resist checking to see the score on three or four occasions. It is not Rangers, it can pretend to be Rangers, but hey died.

Shame on me. I should have no interest in them, but you know what?

Re TRFC getting financial clearance next season toplay in top tier….

Funnyily enough I was wondering about that question.

So too should be the SFA Club licensing committee.

Last season TRFC had an Entry level licence which may have been enough to let them play in the division they were in last season and this. I say may because my reading of rules was that clubs in that Division needed a higher level. The other are Bronze Silver Gold and Platinum ( which I think Celtic were awarded recently).

Now my understanding is that clubs in the top tier need Silver at least but I would like to check that or better still ge a journo who is well versed in the rules to do so.

The problem our game has, and no one wants to admit it, is that strict application of the rules would stop a few clubs operating.

Such an approach would kill TRFC ‘ S plans to save themselves using future money they are hoping but not guaranteed to have.

Thus “discretion” is being applied and from an industry point of view I can understand that .

But Scottish football is an industry in crisis which is one of the reasons I believe Govt needs to involve itself (it’s in the podcast).

Res 12 has survived dummy’s spat, rattles lobbed and nappies filled and that’s just me :) you want to see the mess of my cot.

The professionalism of the reps, the tenacity and progress has taken many by surprise and we are resolute that this should end only when we are satisfied the issues identified in the resolution cannot be repeated, those responsible are held to account and any compensation due donated to the Celtic Foundation (new wan just in case there is any compensation due:)

We know that until we get a result it’s all hot air but are determined to get that result.

But as long as they persist with this facade of continuity I’m laughing.

  17. jimtim on 23rd September 2015 1:08 pm This hatred of Celtic F.c from the BBC is getting out of control . Someone in a position there , is gunning for the hoops . It’s time whoever it is was made known and challenged what his problem is against celtic . And then his bosses should be asked why it is being allowed to happen in the first place . It is bordering on sectarianism of the highest order , and action should be taken to bring it to an end . – See more at: http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/look-out-for-personnel-and-tactical-changes/#comments

    ============================

Last week Paul Larkin commented on BBC bias re Sportsound and I hope he goes further with the following but anyone here who wants to take up the cudgels with the BBC can, I’m a leetle bit busy.

Last year (22/23/24/ Sept 2014) various posters on TSFM sent this letter

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6uWzxhblAt9MmhOTVpVREJCczA/view?usp=sharing

with attached documents that had been kept from LNS to a number of journalists. I’ll leave the non BBC contacts out of it for now but the covering letter and evidence package were handed in to BBC Reception for

    Richard Gordon

    Richard Wilson

    Tom English

Separately because SFM wanted as many batches to be distributed both Tom English and Richard Wilson had same letter and package posted to them so they had two copies.

The other ” journos” are household names too and the story must be known in that strata.

Later this year another journo got the material and at least confirmed story stood up but did not publish and more recently another has expressed an interest.

The point though is BBC bias and the question has to be who at BBC decided not to investigate or even reply last year?. Anyone feeling strongly enough could write to the BBC London (Trust?) and ask who at BBC can investigate why such a strong case for investigation was not followed up .

The case in respect of the withheld evidence being crucial to enabling LNS to make his decision and consequently that Decision being totally wrong was run past a lawyer after Harper MacLeod replied to first letter from TSFM and he more than supported it.

    Union Flag

    Union Jack

    Royal Union Flag

The Union Flag: a red cross over combined red and white saltires, all with white borders, over a dark blue background.

    Use National flag

    Proportion 1:2

    Adopted 1801

Design The Cross of Saint Andrew counterchanged with the Cross of Saint Patrick, over all the Cross of Saint George.

The Union Jack,[note 1][2][3] or Union Flag, is the national flag of the United Kingdom. The flag also has an official or semi-official status in some other Commonwealth realms; for example, it is, by law, an official flag in Canada and known there as the Royal Union Flag.[4] Further, it is used as an official flag in some of the smaller British overseas territories. The Union Jack also appears in the canton (upper left-hand quarter) of the flags of several nations and territories that are former British possessions or dominions.

The claim that the term Union Jack properly refers only to naval usage has been disputed, following historical investigations by the Flag Institute in 2013.[5][6][note 2]

The origins of the earlier flag of Great Britain date back to 1606. James VI of Scotland had inherited the English and Irish thrones in 1603 as James I, thereby uniting the crowns of England, Scotland, and Ireland in a personal union, although the three kingdoms remained separate states. On 12 April 1606, a new flag to represent this regal union between England and Scotland was specified in a royal decree, according to which the flag of England (a red cross on a white background, known as St George’s Cross), and the flag of Scotland (a white saltire on a blue background, known as the Saltire or St Andrew’s Cross), would be joined together, forming the flag of England and Scotland for maritime purposes. King James also began to refer to a “Kingdom of Great Britaine”, although the union remained a personal one.

The present design of the Union Flag dates from a Royal proclamation following the union of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.[8] The flag combines aspects of three older national flags: the red cross of St George of the Kingdom of England, the white saltire of St Andrew for Scotland (which two were united in the first Union Flag), and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland.
