Losers of the Durrant outburst

450

Who are the losers from the recent Ian Durrant outburst?  It’s certainly not the Pope, nor any his co-religious.  I don’t even know if it will be Durant himself, who, incredibly, “meant to cause no offense”. Durrant’s status, whatever it is worth, will be assured by what happened.

The consequences will be imperceptible, part of a slow drift of affinity away from a football affinity which was once elevated by such sentiment and, in the 21st century, limited by it.  Sponsors are not the first to leave, it’s the fans with more between their ears than Durrant. The losers are the club and fans.

  1. Greetings from the Auerbachs Keller in Leipzig. Presently quaffing a large Botanist and tonic. I went into the Nikolaikirche and lit 2 candles for MAH. Now the Nikolaikirche is Evangelical Lutheran but not to dissimilar to the RC Church. Luther was a Catholic who left the mainstream religion because of a corrupt Pope selling plenary indulgences. I can see where he was coming from – not unlike Turnbull Hutton.

We could do with these people around today!

  2. St Stivs,

How are you keeping now mate?

    All good I hope?

  3. Pog,

Aye its a tough life pal :-)

Enjoy Leipzig, and (hopefully for a change in a Euro away tie!) the game!

How are you St Stivs well on the road to recovery I hope.

  5. AULDHEID @ 1:10 PM,

Yes you are a cynic like me:)))

There is often artifice in the Scottish Football Authorities supposed randomness…

    My thoughts on this one!?

Hearts of got three tricky games coming up.

They are in front of Celtic by virtue of head to heads… our last game at Tynecastle…

They have an Edinburgh derby with in form Hibs to negotiate next week before their six pointer at Celtic Park…

So many scenarios could emerge from those games and Killie’ s visit to Tynecastle the week after.

That three points from their extra game could well see them keep their noses in front. In most poeples mind once we hit first the League is over…

    Hail Hail

  6. On “Rangers” latest attempt at circumventing the rules in respect of sales of strips, :

should Scottish football in general and Celtic in particular not be asking ” is football jurisprudence sufficient to act as a deterrent to unfair play by the Ibrox club?

Football jurisprudence is based on trust, how on earth can those responsible for operating “Rangers”( and their like minded associates at Hampden) be trusted to be fair to all member clubs?

When Celtic sell supporters a match ticket should it have a caveat emptor warning or do Celtic have to bear the cost (passed on to supporters) to make sure Celtic are successful in spite of the uneven playing field?

Do other clubs not have the same concern?

The latest failed attempt at circumventing the rules/law affects “Rangers” only, but surely it is time for all clubs to consider the bigger picture and the impact of such dishonest thinking on Scottish football?

  8. Got to laugh at the front page of the DR’300 cops on standby for the violent neds going to Poundland tomorrow ‘…no NOT the hun hordes but Spartak Moscow fans…..this season alone, 2 attempted murders of visiting fans to Ibrox, Wigan fans attacked outside Central Station, a linesman hit by a coin at Livingston, bottles thrown at Aberdeen and Paisley, Durrant not being charged with Breach of the Peace, Laffatme avoiding the Sex Offenders Register, I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few….

  9. Been a busy week . Started last Friday , with an enjoyable chat with SFTB (always informative and pleasant) and some lunch .

The Bhoys producing some scintillating football and fine finishes (both teams).

Hopefully the bhoys manage a good workrate tomorrow and finish any chances we create .

Finally MAH , better people than myself have expressed their feelings of comfort and prayer for you , can you add my name to the list of admirers in the way you have handled your ilness .God bless you and your loved ones . ??

  10. Bada,

Especially when you think how many Celtic fans had to endure months of stress with trumped up charges under the OBAF Act only to have them booted into touch. The hun misdemeanours are nothing to do with the OBAF act they’ve all got to do with criminality and GBH.

I hope that hills have eyes rat Naismith gets his leg broken on Sunday.

16 ROADS , i was feeling guilty having the same thought as yourself .

Here is my take on it . SCOTT BROWN on the bench , wetger we are winning or losing , preferably late on in the game , unleash Scott for as long as it takes to get his revenge on that wee bastard , take the sending off and three game ban …he’s (Scott) going to miss games anyway due to his injury anyway …job done and the wee bastard gets what he’s deserved for a long time ….pheww be wanting that off my chest for a long time .

    Catchyeez ????

I was in the Stadio Olympico last night.

It was my first time watching a CL game in person not involving Celtic.

On their day I think Celtic could compete very well against CSK.

Probably not so well against Roma.

    What a spine.

I don’t watch much football apart from Celtic, so only knew Jecko, but both their central defenders and centre-mid were excellent. The power, speed and physical presence of Jecko was a joy to watch. Indeed, the whole Roma team looked bigger, stronger and faster versus a team that probably cost tens of millions to assemble.

Yes, CQN is virtually unusable on I Pad. It’s fine on phone though.

I can access CQN on Ipad. I will check later what anti-virus software I am running, and can let you guys know.

As I recall, VFR suggested a few, and they have worked well.

May VFR, if he is lurking, can say which ones they are (sorry, I am not a great tech person).

  16. CQN runs perfectly on ipad if you disable javascript in settings.

No ads, no having to scroll to find where you were as the page plays hopscotch every few seconds.

  17. Certainly not meaning to come across as any goody goody holier than thou guy but I can’t say that I’ve ever wished that another team’s player gets his leg broken. There are certain players that annoy more than others. But not any that I’d wish physical harm to. Off out for a run now with a tin hat on!

Imagine you are watching your son playing professional football but not at an elite club, getting paid not the greatest salary, seeing him make numerous sacrifices to even make it to that level, then someone near you shouts break his leg.

It takes a lot of willpower not to react.

By all means hope the opposition play poorly etc, but no to breaking a leg.
