Lost in France

207

Of the two loanees Lost in France this season, Issouf Bayo was the one I most hoped would secure a permanent deal.  He was hooked an hour into Toulouse’ home promotion play-off defeat to Nantes last night.  Toulouse need to overturn the result in Nantes on Sunday to earn the cash that will help pay for the striker’s permanent move.

Olivier Ntcham’s move to Marseilles was doomed to failure from the moment Andre Villas-Boas used it as a pretext to resign as manager.  Olivier is a player.  In the right team, he will perform far better than he has on most occasions for Celtic.  I doubt we will see much of him at Celtic, but I would be happy to see him back at preseason training next month.

I agree with your comments regarding the management team but Xenophobia with regards to Ntcham is utter nonsense I’m afraid.

I think players from abroad buy into a coach and his ideas much more than Scottish players ever do,Edouard and Ntcham downed tools,as they knew Lennon and his methods, weren’t good enough IMO

  3. Nitcham is a good player, his problem with so many players at Celtic they couldn’t get on with Lennon, and I think he didn’t take any shit of Lennon after he Lennon publicly threw some players under the bus ,Nitcham was one of them ,to save face Lennon chased him out to a club in France who simply didn’t fancy him,So there is always two sides to a story, and for me the real culprit thankfully he has left our is none other than Neil Lennon.

Eddy has 20+ goals this season and a number of assists.

If he downed tools, which players would you say did not down tools?

I think there is an underlying (subconscious bias).

Why does Eddy get lumped with Ntcham in terms of how they are viewed this year? Both French, I suppose.

But in Eddy you have a guy who scored 20+ goals. Really it’s between him and Ajer (Turnbull’s contribution is way overblown when you look at his numbers) as to who was our best player this year. Given that context, how the hell can Eddy end up in the same sentences as Ntcham?

Peter Grant new Dunfermline manager…….that’s one popular theory gone……thankfully

If French Eddie had put as much into the Celtic

performances as he did his France performances

he would have scored 40 goals

He showed a marked difference in effort from the

    previous season IMO

  8. Go tell the Spartim on

    PG gone elsewhere

It is indeed Adidas Friday who was the replacement for Nike Friday, we never really had a New Balance Friday

I agree, I would never lump those two together, Eddie is far superior in every aspect of the game.

  10. Think WBA have just got a new manager.

    Fulham might need one.

    Bournemouth might well need one.

    Spurs do need one.

    Palace need one.

    Think Sheffield Utd need one.

    Arsenal need one.

    Wolves need one

    Derby County need one

If Eddie Howe cannot get a job down south, he is not rated as highly as some might think.

I think this approaches the question the wrong way.

Did the team/any player perform particularly well this year? No. So why single out one individual who contributed (arguably) the most this year?

Our failures this year will be multifaceted, but fundamentally we had a rubbish management team. The erosion of standards since BR left is almost an impressive achievement by Neil.

Still, rather than look to that, let’s focus on an individual player. Can you name an individual player who did do their utmost (as you interpret it) this year?

    Say what you mean

By using the term ‘xenophobia’ what I suggest you’re really accusing people of is racism.

I couldn’t give a tuppeny fig or a monkey’s chunkey regarding Mr Ntcham’s ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, religion or any other ism you choose to suggest.

I do grudge paying him tens of thousands of pounds a week given his attitude over the past season.

Some really great points in that post bud, hat doffed, por ciero

  14. Lots of Covid fallout all over Europe with a manager merry-go-round in action. Apparently Flick, Conte & Zidane looking for pastures new because of a reduction in their playing budget.

Makes me wonder what exactly are we offering, in that respect, to Howe, or, any other candidate. Surely it can only be a spend what you can raise strategy, with some kind of deduction to cover further Covid contingencies next season. Would that be enough to coax a respected coach, mindful of his reputation and CV,to throw his lot in with us….I wonder?

If he was interested, I’m sure it wouldn’t deter Steve Clarke.

If anyone has a better and/or more fruitful suggestion about where the money will come from for the ‘rebuild’, I would love to hear it.

Of course the serial loss-makers & confetti-share generators over at Ibrox have no such worries as they hoover-up a Belgian striker and have a £15m bid on the table for McBurnie, a top-class Sheffield Utd striker with Huddlephobia.

Finally, I see that John Hartson hinting that if Howe is appointed then Edouard might stay – really? Would any of us honestly want that – if so, why?

And he’s not the only imposter who didn’t deserve their wages this year.

  16. N’tcham and Eddy downed tools because of money. They and a few others were not happy with Lennys decision that no one was being allowed to leave, They wanted away and they were pushing to be allowed to move every day

So its always about the money

Is Henke staying on with Koeman at Barca? 🤔

It’s unlikely Koeman will be there for much longer. It looks like they’ve told him that only if they can’t find anyone else he’ll keep the job

It is ALWAYS about the money! por cierto

Apparently it’ll cost 12m euros, which even after conversion is a chunk of change and they’re not exactly overflowing with cash, to sack Koeman

  20. CELTIC MAC on 28TH MAY 2021 11:57 AM

Spurs Palace and Wolves are all looking for managers, all the others have one

Spurs are looking at managers in a totally different bracket to Howe, and Wolves’s owners will appoint another Portuguese head coach.

  21. The story the other day is that spurs contacted pochettino so by the same logic I’m sure Celtic have contacted Lenny 😱

Would it be xenophobic or racist to criticise S Duffy’s performances in the Hoops ?

    No.

So why is it to criticise Ntcham as such?

  24. GO TELL THE SPARTIM on 28TH MAY 2021 12:07 PM

I read it was more like €7.5m

Koeman was only brought in for last season to sort out the dressing room, he was only a short term appointment

  25. I think back to how a good coach can transform a player long written off by the fans

    Boyata being a prime example

  26. Anyone who thinks Eddy had his heart in it this year was watching a different player from me.Looked half asleep sometimes.Dozy looking, caught in possession far too often. His,head down,I will dribble by these 4 players, routine lost us possession so many times,if I had been the manager,I would have hooked him.A shadow of the player previously. His 20 odd goal tally not fooling me.Most of them tap ins,not one of his goals, like the ones he was scoring before.I don’t put it all down to him.He cannot play lone striker.Likes coming in from the left too much, but his effort was only seen in flashes in some games.A massive disappointment to me last season. His finest spell, was with Griff along side, short lived by our wonderful management.

No matter,I would still be starting his price at 25 million.

  27. BIGBHOY on 28TH MAY 2021 12:00 PM

Cant think of one situation in professional sport where it isn’t about the money

  28. squire danaher on

Anyone who wants the measure of Ntcham’s contribution last season need only look at the second goal scored by That Shower in the 0-2 October defeat.

Huns pinging one-twos round him standing like a punch drunk boxer.

  29. On the subject of Ntcham. Not one of our other midfielders could hold a candle to him for technique, skill.Had some terrific games against the Huns.Lenny had no idea where to play him.Christie was first pick, with Calmac, and Broony. In an early interview,I remember him saying his best position, was behind the strikers, was never played there.I would give him a big chance under a new manager.Works for plenty of players. To just discard him,IMO,would be a folly.
