CELTIC target Luca Connell has had a request to terminate his Bolton contract turned down by the club’s administrators.
The 18-year-old central midfielder visited Lennoxtown during the week as he edged closer to a move to the eight-in-a-row champions, as CQN reported yesterday.
Some of Connell’s team-mates at the troubled team that was relegated to League One have been able to walk away from their contracts due to the financial situation at the club, with wages regularly paid late last season.
However, the Republic of Ireland Youth star is on a scholarship deal, so it is unclear whether that option is open to him.
It is believed Wanderers would be entitled to a development fee of around £250,000 if the teenager was to terminate his contract.
Connell made 12 appearances last season and earned a call-up to Mick McCarthy’s full Irish squad.
Several English clubs are monitoring the Liverpool-born youngster who has already admitted it would be a “privilege” to wear the hoops.
