In an alternative universe, Wilfried Nancy took over with Celtic having two in-form strikers to make the most of the bounty of chances his radical new formation creates. Yesterday in this domain, he had to watch seven good chances passed up in the first half, while the woodwork was struck four times in the second period. A game which could have matched the legendary 9-0 win over Aberdeen in 2010, came within minutes of ending in stalemate. These are strange times.
After the equaliser, Insightful Kevin paraphrased another Frenchman by saying, “Give me a lucky general”. Bonne chance has been in short supply since Wilfried breezed into town.
The second goal courtesy of an 88th minute Kieran Tierney header. It felt familiar. Four years and six days earlier, Kieran’s right-sided colleague Anthony Ralston, rose even later in a game at Ross County to put Celtic 1-2 ahead, and orientate Ange Postecoglou’s side in the direction of their first league title. Special mention to the guy behind me who couldn’t cope with the prospect of Colby Donovan replacing Anthony, and left before Colby’s match-winning cross for Kieran.
Everything is relative and this Celtic team is weaker than any since 2021. It can still be a league winning side. Yesterday’s win, coupled with the result at Tynecastle, gives the title race more of a two than three-horse race feel, with Hearts unmatched ability to close-out a season the biggest impediment to our success. If you fancy the title going to Ibrox, you can get eight times your money back in five months.
Those of us who have watched Celtic all season might find that a bit generous. I would not be daft enough to put money anywhere near any of the title aspirants. What I know for sure is that every game right now is crucially important. Yesterday’s win was celebrated lustily; rightly so.

SBB…..Brendan could have went to the board and asked for 3 or 4 £8m signings and we’d have signed them.
He came up with nada and every single player he was offered he turned his nose up like a spoiled brat.
The only players he recommended were Stirling. Ferguson eyc who we had no chance of getting.
He wanted out for a few reasons which I’ll keep to myself for now but it WILL come out.
Never ever a Celtic fan.

Auldheid…with respect…FSR is a shield our board use. We have a bloated squad full of prospects and nevers. An overdue trim and juducious spending will keep us within it

You might be right but the past FSR since 2022 is based on highest football earnings ever when limit was 90% and 80% of those high earnings.
Celtic spent no where near the FSR ceiling so it was never a factor.
However the next set of accounts that FSR starts with each year will be less.
No CL money and if not a penny works then less Merchandising income.
Lets set football earnings level at £100m for next 3 years because Celtic continue with cautious budgetting policy.
That leaves a wage limit of £70m to pay for playing squad.
That is as much as can be spent but I”m not sure how much of that income is diverted to meet other costs.
However lets stick to £70m in next 3 years Licensing rounds.
That limit has to be recognised in current recruitment because if (Turkeybhoy) Celtic do as BR wanted to offer high wages on basis of higher resale value (as he argued for to get Idah, Engles Trusty) then BR did not help his case by those players not showing the form that would merit higher sale.
Why does that matter to FSR?
Because the profit made on player sales counts as football earnings and helps pay the wages of the better players we would not want to lose.
In that sense ” not a penny is self defeating”.
I do not say that to have a go at The Collective. Just stating that is how financing of the playing squad works.
What needs clarification from The Board is how much of the £70m do the Board count as football earnings ceiling and is all of it being spent on playing squad. If not why not.
Be that as it may, lets say current playing squad costs are £45m that leaves £25m to spend on improving squad quality.
How many decent players would £25m purchase taking into account a xfer fee to persuade a club to let an experienced player go then say 3 years on annual wage cost for 3 players on £50k a week. Say £2.5x 3 at £7.5m x 3 years of contract length say £22.5m.
Having squad costs go up but income down is to be avoided
Those figures are illustrative and not intended to scare, but to let folks understand that they can dismiss FSR impact but Celtic cannot.
However if anyone wants to argue otherwise and my understanding of FSR is wrong I would be happy to hear a case that says FSR is irrelevant.
I like to be as accurate in my thinking as possible.
It is on the basis of above I suggested but with no feedback that DD is intent on increasing Celtic’s football earnings by taking Celtic into the North American Market.
Sure he has an interest in increasing Celtics share value but so to do supporters because the more Celtic can earn the more can be spent to get players of a higher quality.
What is vital is American businessmen getting involved limit their profit to what DD takes out of Celtic accounts and depend on the value of the shares they hold growing faster than possible in the economic environment Celtic have to operate.
Just my guess but if I were DD that is what I would be doing.
It produces my perfect scenario in that everyone wins.
If eyes glazed over at second para then I cannot be responsible if folk dont want to change their mind by understanding better how FSR works.
Who is Buck Rodgers?
A relation of Brendan?
I’m asking because I don’t know.
FSR is just another part of the West of Scotland rule book that will not be applied to the Huns, just see recent VAR/decisions/cop/outs!
Big Wilf Tone is an Old Firm mugging in the Parkhead library away from the Collective mob demanding his removal.
Especially if wee Livingston Davie pulls the rug from under us.
Shifting sands know no peace.

Since Lurkin Tim raised FSR I had to respond seriously and thought I would draw you attention to how FSR works to get a better understanding why BR did not get what he asked for.
If you already knew that then I picked up your original post wrong.
Text is not the best conveyor of humour but on a serious point, given FSR dictates the limit of what can be spent to improve playing squad quaility it is important to understand why profit held in the bank from a previous years trading does not count as football earnings in following year calcualation based on latest accounts.
Previous profit does help if a breach were to occur as it is evidence there is not a pattern of unsustainable spending going on.
KevJungle on 23rd December 2025 12:43 am
It is UEFA who will be doing the checking and whatever club states in its audited accounts they spent on players has to align with the application for a UEFA licence.
UEFA learned a lot from Celtic and Res12 how SFA governed Scottish Football and FSR is a lot tighter than FFP.

Cheers.
Celtic football earnings in next years accounts will be less than this years.
No ifs or maybes.
After that it just arithmetic to assess the impact.
If the earnings from the other defined sources drop, the the shortfall can be made up by selling better players on decent wages and replacing them with players on less pay.
Sound familiar? Celtic have been operating on a sustainable basis since 2003.
FSR just sets out rules to force other clubs to do the same.
Why have Rangers downsized the quality of their squad?
Hint
EBTs dont count as football earnings
