MACKAY-STEVEN BACKS DEILA

GARY MACKAY-STEVEN has backed under-fire Ronny Deila after the Ajax embarrassment.
The winger started in the 2-1 loss before being replaced by Scott Allan in the 71st minute.
Celtic have now gone 10 games in Europe without a win and the defeat from the Amsterdam outfit was their third in a row following consecutive losses against Molde.
However, Mackay-Steven insisted Deila is still the right man for the job.

He said: “I think we still made a lot of progress.

“Not progressing through the group and not making the Champions League – those were our main goals at the start of the season and we’ve not done that.

“I feel the group has become stronger and definitely Ronny Deila’s the man to take us forward.

“I feel we’ve made leaps and bounds on the training ground, I just think on matchday it’s these little mistakes that have cost us.
“We’re not a million miles away at all.

“It’s frustrating for us as players, but I don’t feel there’s too big a gap.

“We’re there or thereabouts, we just need to regroup and focus and go again.”
