MACKAY-STEVEN’S REMINDER TO STRACHAN
GARY MACKAY-STEVEN insists he is not upset about being snubbed by Scotland boss Gordon Strachan for tomorrow’s friendly against Northern Ireland and the Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibralter on Sunday.
The winger, along with his former Dundee United team-mate Stuart Armstrong, has made a flying start to his career at Celtic since their £2million double deal in January.
However, ex-Hoops gaffer Strachan decided to overlook the claims of both when he named his most recent squad.
GMS admitted: “I’m not really disappointed. Anything like that would be a bonus.
“It was nice to hear people saying they would maybe put mine and Stuart’s names in the frame. It’s good to be associated with
Scotland, but, first and foremost, our thoughts were about coming here to hit the ground running with Celtic and establish ourselves.
“If anything that just gives me added motivation to really work hard and be consistent and, hopefully, get in the Scotland squad in the future. That will come if I keep doing well here.
“We’ve been in and around squads before and that comes with consistent performances at club level and that’s what we both need to do. Hopefully, in the future it can happen for us.
“If we can go on to win the treble that will definitely help my chances – if you’re doing well you come into the frame.
“The treble’s what we want here and the team has made big leaps the last couple of games against Dundee United, winning the Scottish Cup replay and the League Cup, so there are good times ahead here.”
