Madden, gambling and decisions you cannot explain

363

I was pretty nonplussed when Bobby Madden was appointed for our game against Newco at Celtic Park last season. His favourite team is neither here nor there, but elements of his performance gave grounds for concern.

He should have red carded Jason Holt for his dangerous lunge on Patrick Roberts. The same card should have been shown to Clint Hill and awarded a penalty for the scything of Leigh Griffiths. Kenny Miller could have been sent off for a two-footed lunge at Stuart Armstrong. These incidents were not merely in favour of one team, they could clearly affect betting markets.

Money can be made on more than just the result in football games. You can bet on a red card being awarded, or not. If Madden awarded Celtic that late penalty, he would had no choice but to dismiss (already booked) Hill. The Halliday challenge had to either be ignored, or result in a sending off. So Madden didn’t even award a foul.

For a man with the length and extent of Bobby Madden’s gambling issue, this raises red flags. Thousands can be made on knowing the outcome of a seemingly innocuous element of a game of football – like ‘Will there be a red card?’ Only for the game against Newco at Celtic Park, there was nothing innocuous about that question.

Madden cost Celtic two points the last time these teams met at Celtic Park and stopped our then-18 game winning run. Betting markets were influenced at the same time. I fear we are in for more of the same tomorrow.

The SFA have a duty of care to ensure our game is clean of betting influence, this must include a clear acknowledgement of referees gambling histories.  I’d avoid betting on tomorrow’s game, it is susceptible to unusual events.

  1. Paul67,

The amount of betting on this game is off the scale.

canamalar brought the Health ad SAFETY aspect to the Table… The Referees job. No real difference.

So much Money will be bet on this game.

Scotland really is a Banana republic. And it shouldn’t be like this.

    The SFA must be removed.

Dallas never even earned the right to be an official.

I’d rather Madden officiates the game……. A reflection on the SFA.

Sick of the corruptness at the upper echelons of the game.

CELTIC just batter em with Magical Fitba.

  2. To late for moi Paul . Celtic -1 . Evens being offered and investment made .

Any evidence of Madden being partial to a punt ?

More disturbing than him being a Hun .

  3. glendalystonsils on

An excellent and highly pertinent article. I hope some of Madden’s hunlurking friends bring it to his attention. and better still to the attention of the SFA.

Being a bit naive, I put these strange decisions down to Maddens Sevco leanings but there may indeed be more to it than that. He’ll have to be pretty outrageous in his decisions to affect tomorrow’s game though, as I feel we have a humping in store for them.

  4. Gooood afternoon CQN

Wow Paul67, Madden has a gambling issue ??

Why is he getting this game ?

Your 100% on last game he refereed – the one where Murty got a fantastic point, the refereeing is not mentioned in this discussion by anyone

What are Celtic doing about this, and protecting the club ??

FtSFA, they do not need any review

  5. Meanwhile back at the ranch .

The football we pay substantial amounts of money to watch in this country ,is governed by a body of people responsible for the 5 way agreement and LNS .

Its what they do . We either boycott the fitba or…… gub them on the park . Madden or no Madden. .Not an easy task but definitely achievable .

    Deliver a gubbing , please Celtic .

  6. Madden is a gambler Paul says, recently a director of Aberdeen was found gulity of betting on games and fined I think £1000 for two of the charges two still outstanding, dont know why these were not dealt with, that is how seriously the SFA take this.

  8. Wonder when FtSFA are going to deal with a certain Donald Park ?

Who holds shares in 2 FtSPFL clubs ?

  9. Or an Andrew Dickson, who is part of FtSFA, and who in my opinion was part of a deception in 2011/12, to get a club a licence to plat in Europe ???

  10. Cowiebhoy

I would not be surprised if they changed the rules on this, remember rules books are flexible unless you are a team who submits team lines without the necessary amount of signatures, for this offence you are thrown out of the Cup.

  11. His hun leanings have been well demonstrated in matches involving us.

In any fair minded country he would have been called to account.

He is just a typical Scottish bigot who has hopes of affecting a situation they find abhorrent .

Operation stop Timmy will be in full swing tomorrow with the mssm and football authorities all complicit.

The best wee country just can’t help itself.

Rather explosive article …. and not sure I like it.

What evidence is there of gambling issues?

If so, when was it known? And who knew ?

I know that Madhun was only announced as the referee recently, but the timing of this article concerns me….

    what is implied is serious.

If there is any such evidence, and there is a concern that it has had an impact on any games, what has Celtic PLC done about this?

  13. The two footed lunge by Miller early on, told us everything about where the game was heading that day.

Yep , expect more of the same tomorrow from the bald bigot .

Can we get to 100 entrants?

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Madden awarded two non penalties and wrongly sent off Victor in the first two games I remember him reffing us in the 2012/13 season, Dundee Utd and St Mirren.

In the sevco game last March , if he did not award the penalty for Hill fouling Griff, he should have booked Hill and sent him off for clearly pulling Griff back just a few seconds before he was brought down in the box.

All the best to Jamesgang on his ‘white’ wedding today following today’s snowfall.

  16. 67 European Cup Winners on

Madden a gambler is a new piece of info – suggesting he did not send off any huns because he had a wee bet on no sending off’s would not surprise me

Paul67 I trust your editorial – but if I was Lawwell I would request/invite a UEFA delegate to to the game and make public the news

The SFA don’t give one f—k about Celtic but they do about their pathetic little empires

Hump them tomorrow and 7 would be good

Delaney’s , I hope you are in better health following the post the other night saying you had bad flu.

  18. Imatim wants justice and the titles to be stripped from the cheats on

Madden and the SFA will get to know of this article. There’s nothing surer.

That after all was the intention, wasn’t it

  19. Well, well, well, the madhun as well as being a corrupt cheat, is a gambler.

IMO, this is the best, by a country mile, article you have ever written Paul, I don’t doubt you have the proof if needs be, bring them down, every last corrupt one of them.

    Best of Jamesgang.

  20. I seen a well known ,now retired Clarkston referee, in a bookies in Busby, doing his fixed odds one Saturday morning. At 3pm he was doing our game at CP.

  21. No-one in scoddland is serious about tackling the big issues in Scottish Football……..

    …..no, not one.

Corruption, sectarianism and financial jiggery-pokery are avoided like the plague……… or a tax bill….

Instead, hun stooges wrap themselves in a pantomime SRTRC rig-out………A bold , bear-faced front.

Ra peepils klub wull ne’er be embarrassed, ne’er mind be held to proper, unambiguous public account.

Unless we have thum well cuffed in the first half, Boaby wull make his mark – no doubt.

  22. Paul67

    Kevin is called Clancy.

But he’s never been the referee of Celtic v Rainjurs or even Celtic v Sevco for that matter despite his seniority over most of them.

    Hmmmm CSC

  23. Paul 67

    Quite an amazing article.

” For a man with the length and extent of Bobby Madden’s gambling issue, this raises red flags. ”

What is `the length and extent ` of Mr Madden`s gambling issue?

Has this EVER been made public?

The use of the word `issue` leads this particular reader to think `addiction`. If that is the case, Mr Madden needs professional help . Until he is `cured` , should he really be refereeing in a business where gambling is so prominent it is sponsored by Bookmakers?

  24. Long shot i know however…..

I have a 16 year old son who i have kept away from this fixture until he reached this age and he is desperate to attend tomorrow however all sources have turned up blank.

If anyone has a spare ticket or two due to changed travel plans of weather conditions it would make his New Year.

Particularly given his school in 95 % the other way!

  25. First of all Congrats to Jamesgang on his Wedding Day & best of good fortune over the years ahead.

Like Mike in Toronto I was taken aback by Paul’s editorial. l would suggest if one of the Poster’s wrote that the Moderator would have deleted it.

Anyways not my problem, my sole focus is on tomorrows game.

Whilst I would love to see us run up a big score against them, I can’t see it happen.

If we were playing the Sheep, Hibs or Hearts we would be anxious enough. Sevco have beaten all 3 and whilst we enjoy mocking them they are not that bad and are at least on a par with the 3 fore mentioned teams.

Also they fare better when defending & hitting on the break. They are fast enough on the break & it will suit them to sit in against us.

Having said all that if we bring anything like our A game to the party we will beat them comfortably

I’m going for 2 nil for the good ghuys.
