Madden semi-final ref, what were the odds?

What were the odds of Bobby Madden being appointed referee for our Scottish Cup semi-final against Newco?  Fairly short, I would imagine.  All we want from Bobby is a fair crack of the whip.  When a Newco player lunges with both feet off the ground at Patrick Roberts, we don’t expect him to be distracted by checking his watch.  When Leigh Griffiths is taken down, waist high, inside the box, before his opponent can get near the ball, we expect a penalty.

Such expectations were not on the coupon previously but are not too much to ask.

  1. What were the odds?

Now I’m no wit or WITS but even I can see a racing certainty.

Not to mention the tax burden for club and players.

Incidentally, as the new Scottish tax rates take effect from today. Our players will be the highest taxed in the UK.

While also being some of the highest paid people in Scotland.

Heart warming wee story and a reminder for us all in regards to the potential effects of our everyday interactions with folk.

It’s refreshing to see that the SFA have acted on the accusation, albeit on social media, that one of their top referees is a gambler…..Oh Wait.

  5. Sad to hear of the Way to early passing of Ray Wilkins, always struck me as a decent person which seems to be correct given the tributes and stories appearing from football and beyond.

I believe he was battling an alcohol problem, I hope he is at peace now.

    RIP Ray

For me, the greatest gift and fulfilment that any star can possess is to make someone’s. And in cases like this, change someone’s life.

In football Mata, Naismith and CR7 spring to mind . I’ve no doubt omitted loads of others.

In 2012 CR7 sold his golden boot for €1.5M and donated it to the children of Palestine , his charity work is very under reported IMO

    Thanks for your comment.

I have no issue with our players relatively paying more tax than those playing in the rest of the UK.

All I was pointing out is that it is another obstacle that our club must overcome and ultimately it will make our job of attractiing and retaining quality players more difficult.

Somebody will have to pay the tax. If players have cleverly constructed contracts , then it will be the fans that pick up the tab.

  10. Sevco are due two home games after the split but have already faced all five of their top-six rivals twice at home.

Is this just a coincidence ?

  11. Netflix about CR in which he comes out as a really giving guy.

Apols for the staccato posts. Can’t eat soup AND post!!!

  12. Hot Smoked –

To ask your question in a different way – have Sevco only reached their current points tally by avoiding a 2nd visit to any, yes, any of the other top 6 teams?

I hear you ..,,though I suspect the prospect of having the ref-sanctioned crap kicked out of you in delightful places like Motherwell might be a still greater factor?!? ;-)

Must be still worse for the Scandinavian teams given their still higher taxes?

Hail Hail fella, hope your well.

My wife’s cousin is married to the son of Ray Wilkins sister, he is a guid yin as they say.

I’ve been in his company only twice.

The first time that I set eyes on him, I thought it was RW, only a guid bit younger looking and, head and shoulders bigger than Ray was, he has his own Taekwondo school, I was telling him that I also went there when I was younger. Their two young children have appeared in a few commercials on TV etc.

I remember watching RW being interview on an “old firm” documentary on BBC, “Clash of the Titans” I think it was called and, RW said that he’d been in dressing rooms in Italy which were full of Catholic’s and they were wonderful people. And then, he came to Glasgow, and was told that he had to hate Catholic’s. RW facial expression said it all. Maybe one of the techno’s on here might be able to locate the video on youtube.

    Anywye, HH
