There are many reasons to be disappointed with Labour in the past 20 years, omitting the very recent period. House of Lords reform has been proposed, opposed and dropped over the past 5 decades, mostly by the Labour Party, but most of it has been enacted as a damp squib. The SNP can afford to not take a position on this as it is a “Westminster” provision so they can avoid the controversy of taking a position.
In terms of Lab/Tory local council, we have to share the blame of actually voting for them in numbers that allowed them to be influential. I note that Nicola Sturgeon, ahead of the election, refused to rule out entering into local govt coalition with Tories, though, when it came to the crux in Glagow, she elected to have them operate as a minority administration so look out for back door deals on a vote by vote basis, with built-in deniabilty.
I will judge any Lab/Tory council coalition by the actions they take rather than the easy promises that opposition can make. WHatever dirty deals were made, they did not stop Scottish Labour from proposing more radical progressive taxation than the SNP were prepared to implement. Yet again, they get to talk the talk as a Party of the Left without breaking into a walk.
