Atletico Madrid, happy for them? Not an easy one. I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974. They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.
Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons. Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.
As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany. “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.
It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico. Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic. Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League. This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.
I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals. Where were they in December 2012?

Heres hoping the rain stops and the arabs put a bullet in the head of the southside zombies to end thier season and speed up thier end
Season tickets renewed yesterday for Mrs RobinBhoy and myself. So two less empty seats for Keevins and his like to complain about!
Waiting for the usual “I will only renew if Celtic . . . ” buy a £20 million striker, overthrow the SFA, nonsense to start anytime soon.
If you love the Celtic and can afford to renew or buy your ticket please do so.
If you don’t or can’t afford it either don’t buy one but don’t patronise us either, or regrettably if financially above your means try to get along to individual games. Plenty of CQN’ers that can’t make games from time to time who can help in that regard.

Prince William is an Aston Villa and Celtic fan.
Apparently he told Ma’m he had decided to leave the IRA because the “War is over”.

I have been following Celtic since 1965. My first game, at age 7, was the week prior to the Dunfermline Cup Final which set us on the road to undreamed of success.
I was totally spoiled. My dad took me to most of the memorable European nights. We were among the best in the world. The huns were a nuisance, winning the (very) occasional cup but not really challenging us. Hibs and Aberdeen ran us close a few times in the league.
I came down to earth with a bang in the mid 70s when we started losing; big Jock nearly dying, then leaving.
My view of the board was that it was tight, should be spending more on the team, and keeping our best players. The realisation that we could not hold on to our captain and the best player in Britain hurt me terribly.
We enjoyed reasonable success in the 80s and then had to endure hell in the 90s, with the drug fuelled hun running riot.
Fergus sorted out our boardroom, although some would argue that the plc model is not the correct one. His legacy is that we have a fantastic stadium, stable finances and are now, without question, the leading club in Scotland, and will be for the foreseeable future.
On the park, we have had great success and could have, arguably, won every league since MON took over. We are now achieving on the European stage again, although some would still say we should have done better.
What now for the grand old team? Do we want out of Scottish football? Do we want to join the doped up European elite clubs paying prima donna players obscene wages? Our board is accused of lack of ambition, lack of moral fibre for not dealing with mibbery and corruption at the SFA, financial self interest and for attacking our own supporters.
Going forward, we should have a debate as to how we want to proceed. What kind of governance should the club have, if not a plc? What league should we join? Who will have us? What do we do regards the new media? How do we make the most of our brand? What is the best way to tackle the corrupt and incompetent SFA?
It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and abuse people from an anonymous keyboard. Let’s hear some positive suggestions for the way forward.
I cannot think of a better time to be a Celtic supporter since those oh so dreamy days in the 60s/70s. It is easier to kick on from a position of strength. Let’s do it.

a wee bit o’ advice (unsolicited!)……………;)
…….. for the prospective
moss-mowers today……….
……………………….if you have a soft-tined rake, first get stuck into it, clearing out the accumulated thatch………just rake it up, treat the lawn with any weed’n’feed………and then you can get tore in with the mower………..
……….you’ll have less an’ less moss to mow as the season unfolds.

Did you know that Stevie Chalmers scored a goal against the Inter mob that killed Rangers?
Rangers FC were diagnosed with a terminal illness on 25th May 1967
Took them 45 years to die from this illness though.
Envy kills!!
RIP Bungalow Bill
Doubt if anyone has ever heard of him…….a pal of my fathers.
Remember asking years ago why he was called Bungalow Bill (thinking maybe a dodgy past or something). ” cos he lives in a bungalow” was the reply.
My old man, now in his 80’s seems to be outliving them all, but this was a sore one
RIP Bill…a real cracking’ guy!
RYECATCHER
Where did you read that, bud? No Liverpool books left in yer local library?
The Phil King/Inter comment is a standing joke if you know him.
I’m not so sure about the Huns getting dodgy penalties or United denied stonewallers. I can however see Madden allowing Elbows and co to boot lumps out of their young opponents, with a red card for retaliation. Look out for it.
Whatever happens civil war is well underway. Its Board v King and Snowman v Any other ex oldco player who wants the gig.

My take on the Dave King/Sevco season ticket machinations is that the absolute dafties will put their money into King’s Trust Fund, the real Sevco supporters who care about the club’s survival will give their money directly to Sevco but the vast majority of supporters will keep their money in their pockets till they see which way the wind blows.
The Rangers’ players will know they cannot beat Dundee Utd by playing football. The tactics will be to intimidate and knock them out of their stride. To commit the sort of sly fouls that they specialise in. The defend and hope for a break.
An early United goal will spoil the plan. I hope Jackie tells his boys to have a damned good go at them right from kick off.
Aff oot for 9 holes of golf and a fat bassa all day brunch……
Gonna be difficult to suppress my laughter in the golf club when the Colgate dodging,Shandy drinking,’Kilmarnock’ fan gloomily tells me the Sevco score……haha can’t wait.
Enjoy it Bhoys……..Hail Hail to Jackie Mac junior and Sid.
Come on the Arabs.

That Killie game was coldest I remember being at game.
If I remember correctly my car was saying -10 on way to game and was sure it would be off.
We were desperate to get above zombies going into new year so played game in questionable conditions and I think we drew which cost us the league.

Jobo- Indeed mate. 2 games v Kilmarnock and Motherwell in Dec 2010 which had approx 16000 and 20000, this was during the season when we were neck and neck with the deid club and immediately before the Sammi demolition at Ibrox.
The theory of empty seats being a Sevcoless phenomenon is baloney.
Hope you are well!
Drove past the big hoose earlier after a run in Pollok Park, was funny to see all the excited wee (ugly) faces, I might go back later to see the after match reactions, c’mon the Arabs!

Shame…
