Atletico Madrid, happy for them? Not an easy one. I remember listening to the radio commentary the night we lost to them in the European Cup semi-final of 1974. They, and Rapid Vienna a decade later, represented very unworthy competitors in European competition.
Both teams returned to Celtic Park in recent seasons. Rapid picked up pretty much where we left them, an odious lot, but Atletico and their fans didn’t seem to bother about the past, they came and left wanting to play football.
As a boy I remember chastising old soldiers who fought the Germans during the war for their persistent aversion to modern Germans and Germany. “They are a new people, nothing to do with the 30s and 40s”, I said.
It feels a bit ridiculous holding a grudge against Atletico. Their achievement last night, and this season so far, has been fantastic. Against the most powerful foes, they might just win the hardest league in the world and the Champions League. This late in the season, that is a stunning prospect to still be on the table. They should be an inspiration to us all.
I see the media is (responsibly) alerting Celtic shareholders to the threat of a share scam apparently being perpetrated against unsuspecting fans by spivs and criminals. Where were they in December 2012?

If you don’t have to actually live in Edinburgh but work there I would consider commuting from say Polmont which is a lovely area and there are places for rent there.
Might be worth thinking about

Just out of curiosity, was anybody at the Dynamo Kiev home game (1-2 defeat) in 1967/8?
I’ve never heard much about it, but it must have been like a punctured balloon after Lisbon 4 months earlier.

500 bus from outside (in front of taxis) takes you into Buchanan Street bus station for 4 quid.
As BT says, get off at Queen Street station and head down to Glassford Street to the Balne Valley, then back to Queen Street for the train…..or somesuch!
After the Balne Valley, head for the Blane Valley :-)

Billy bhoy where on earth did I say I hated people who want independence?
Brogan I don’t wish to answer all your points so please see my response to snake.
I completely disagree with you on the catholic vote angle. Catholics would become a tiny minority here and it’s not getting better. Just have a look at the OBi act.
Neganon, this is not an arguement with you,I sympathise with much of what you say.Your assumption that we would become “A tiny minority”is not actually true.In this country of some 5 million people,we have Muslim,Jewish,Protestant,Catholic, and a myriad of other races and religions. The 1 million Catholics in Scotland have one enemy, and one enemy only. That is the probable less than 1 million huns. The Orangemen,Masons, and the hun hordes who follow the hun.The majority of decent living Protestant people look on that mob with total disdain. The Ecumenical movements between the various churches has been an ongoing thing for decades.
All over Scotland ,in local government,in business,in finance,in education, you will find Catholics at the forefront.Catholic schools far out perform any other .
The hun can see their hold on Scottish life dissapearing at a rate of knots.Just read some of their debates on their forums.
Yes we still have a few bigots in positions of power.Their prominence only highlights their stupidity. They would not last long in an independent Scotland. As many decent Protestant people will vote for Independence as will Catholic. The only thing anyone can be sure of is the slavering hun hordes will vote “No”.They want to worship The Queen, and “The Fleg”.Apart from these two things, what else?.God only knows.

I wasnt at the Dynamo Kiev defeat but it was a massive downer only months after Lisbon.
They were a very good team though.
what made it a bigger shock was that we had beaten them in Europe in the cup-winners cup only a year earlier.

Looking at the latest census only one Christian religion is growing in Scotland. The CoS is on it’s backside. It is struggling.
Of all the people I know who are having kids and I know quite a few at the minute and nobody except the RC’s in my group of friends and acquiantances are having their kids baptised. In a number of years time with the influx of RC immigrants and the number of people in Scotland exiting due to Scotland being independent to go to England or Wales or whatever they daft Huns said on that video there will be a healthy split of RC’s and other religions.

My friends in Celtic,
Further to my last post : Hypothetical situations are no basis or solution to what we must vote on and in no way reflect reality, In my opinion.
Separation is not just for Christmas. It is forever and the facts must speak louder than sentiment. There is no going back.

I was there, stood at the Hun end , surreal experience , if I remember correctly we drew 1-1 in the away leg. We shouldn’t have even been in that round as winners, some trouble somewhere a team dropped out so we had to play, couldn’t see that happening today.

On the Europa I agree it’s getting more attractive and next season Man U will be favourites, I would think.
No a bad consolation prize.
Those against independence tell me how if could affect them financially or give me rather ignorant reasons. Mostly they give no real reason but give a poor criticism of YES voters instead.
I do believe a mixture of general ignorance, apathy and selfishness of too many will ensure Scotland will continue to be ruled over by multi-millionaire right-wing men in London.
Life in Scotland will then become much worse. The status quo wont continue as it is. The sinner must be punished for trying to take control of decisions by people who live and work here.
Imagine Scottish elections where our vote could determine who is in government. Why would Scots want get rid of such things as the Bedroom tax or wish to keep such things as the NHS. Crazy! We’d also lose the unelected house of lords. Who would want that? Why would Scottish people want an economic policy aimed at economic stability and job security in Scotland? Think of the tax revenue London would lose. Why would Scottish pensioners want their incomes protected with the triple lock so that pensions increase by either inflation, earnings, or 2.5 per cent, whichever is highest? We’d miss out in the chance to fight in wars for oil all over the world…. I’ll stop.
If you are unsure of how you will vote. I urge you to do research, so when polling day comes, you are clear on why you should vote and want way is best to vote.
I do not support SNP. In fact, I’m quite the opposite. I am not patriotic or nationalistic.
What would Thatcher vote? I will be voting YES.
Billy Bhoy 05
With the revenues they can make for winning their league I would be surprised if Man Utd played anything more than a reserve side in Europe until they reached the latter stages.

That, combined with Bobby Madden and the other Sevco fans officiating is turning this Semi into a set up.
Hope Eddie Thompson paying attention.!

Wee Jackie gets 3 matches straight away and 2 suspended to the end of next season.
Ian Black got a 10 match ban and had to serve 3 and got 7 suspended.
Something is wrong in these verdicts.
I expect Griffith’s to get at least 10 game ban for the singing in the Roseburn Bar.

LIVYBHOY,
Thanks for that mate. The fears of being somehow “Overrun”by rabid huns,is just not true.
Apart from this mob,the rest of the population want what we all want.Decent housing, decent health care, decent wages, just a decent standard of living.
Will that come about with Independence?.Thats in our own hands if we vote “Yes”.
What is blatantly obvious is,we do not have it now,and if we vote “No”will carry on with the status quo.Its a massive decision and I would never tell anyone how they should vote, but we should be able to discuss it.
Billy Bhoy 05
I would take 3rd in the CL group every single year we enter and get to the semi or final of the EL. We must try and win the group every season though. That should be the goal for every tournament we enter.
I’m not really in favour of dropping into a secondary competition myself but those are the rules as they stand.
I would love to see Celtic in another European final.
LB
Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma @ 13:00
I also think the gap between Celtic and those in the last 8 is one that is certainly capable of being closed and narrowed. IF the board choose to strengthen the team and change their policy of being an EPL fodder supplier. Our current objective of hoping to get into the CL then hoping to make the last 16 is a target we can and should be aiming above.
Looking forward to reading your views on independence on the strandsky blog when you do that.
BT,Bada, Iki, Richie,
Thanks for the heads up!!
Would love to join y’all for a wee dram or three at the Blane, but have some previous arrangements in ML4.
Maybe next time I am across for a visit,
