A makeshift Celtic midfield took no more than 15 minutes to get into its stride at Fir Park yesterday, before overwhelming Motherwell in every department. That opening period promised a competitive event, with the home side’s Lennon Miller (18) twice hitting the woodwork from outside the box, but soon thereafter, Celtic’s midfield three of Paulo Bernardo, Luke McCowan and Reo Hatate found their rhythm.
Bernardo played in the deep position, vacated by the injured Callum McGregor, although Celtic pressed the game so far forward, ‘deep’ is not an apt description. This left Hatate and McCowan free to roam across the front of the Motherwell defensive line, which had dug its trench 20 yards from goal.
Persistence paid off midway through the opening half when Luke McCowan found space among a pool of defenders to craft a shot into the corner of the net. The Dundee deadline day signing is making the most of his time at Celtic.
Daizen Maeda then timed a run perfectly to get behind the defence, but was barged in the back by Motherwell’s Stephen O’Donnell. The ball struck Maeda’s arm and bizarrely, dribbled into the net. It looked all day like a penalty and a red card, as O’Donnell made no attempt to play the ball, but VAR chose a different outcome, and awarded a free kick against Daizen for the handball.
The hosts remained in the contest, by proximity of the scoreline only, until 57 minutes, when Celtic’s fullbacks combined. After a sustained period of passing inside the Motherwell half, Alex Valle pitched a cross towards the back post. Alistair Johnston was already on his way to that area and met the ball perfectly with his head to double Celtic’s lead.
Substitutes Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah combined on 88 minutes for the latter to complete the scoring. Motherwell’s Liam Gordon received a deserved red card in stoppage time for a dangerous foul on Idah.
Cameron Carter-Vickers made his first appearance in six weeks midway through the second half. Greg Taylor was on the bench, his first appearance on the team sheet in four weeks. Reinforcements are welcome as Celtic compete on three fronts over the next 8 days.

This is unbelievably good

Across CQN this week no truer four words will be spoken.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Equally, the comment from Craig Smith cracked me up.
Before anyone objects, I know it’s anything but a funny subject……..but…..
He obviously doesn’t know the words…..
Beaton confirmed with Robertson on VAR for Wednesday at Aberdeen
We have a rookie Ref with McDermid on VAR
The former should be interesting as Beaton does tend to allow a more physical game and we did see this at CP from the dons.
Even more than before that one looks like being a battle. No problem for us as we will hopefully benefit 69 hours later against the dons.
Hopefully we can rotate a bit again v Dundee and still get a result.
New young goalie, Ralston Taylor CCV Trusty Engels Bernardo Reo Kuhn Kyogo Palma
For me. Bench with AJ Valle Scales Idah Luke Cal Maeda James and Kasper
Re above I meant a more physical game from dons at CP not Beaton. He obv wasn’t ref.

Your point and intentions are good, however in my opinion Brendan will put out his strongest team on Wednesday. I believe the three points against Dundee are more important than the cup-tie v Aberdeen – of course I want wins in both matches. Remember Falkirk testing us at Celtic Park – Dundee are better than Falkirk – ergo a full strength starting eleven with, all being well, five subs after the break. HH

I know this might be seen as heretical on my part by some, but I wished we had sourced and signed Cerny in the summer.
…..
He was loaned due to a bad attitude and on my view he is a shite bag , happy to waltz through lower opposition just not interested in hard work , trouble in the dressing room , no from me .
HH
Ha ha, the cool, calm and collected Jimmy Thelein is about to get a proper introduction to Scottish football 😂
Best for us on Wednesday, Dons and huns draw obviously, but there is a bad part of me which wants the sheep to hammer them.
Well played yesterday, thought the introduction of NK was significant
KINGLuBO
ManUre bin their manager.
It’s half the players who shoould have been sacked before him. They are an absolute disgrace, and do not give a shit about the fans, the club, only themselves. I’d bomb them all out of the place first thing.
KINGLuBO
KingLubo,
I too want us to start having some daylight between us and the others, but….:))))) don’t mind a good old hammering of thems by the Dons. Not too much rotation for me on wednesday. Score often and early and then do as much changing as you want. Looking at that shoitshow that is Man United. They have become the graveyard for many a good manager at one time. They don’t have any solution to the problem and they will just throw money for the next sod to bring in some overhyped players and some that are probably near the end of their careers but were once big names. Makes me thankful for the way our club is run.
Sean
Turkeybhoy re: Mecca time.
I never knew that.

GENE re: Bingo
Made me chuckle!
With Aberdeen managing 1 goal wins and r2ngers unable to score away it’s got to be 4-4
GENE
I think you mean 1-0 Aberdeen.
Tom
As long as we win on Wednesday is all that really matters
In my opinion squad rotation is a must. We now have a tried and tested squad and our use of subs has the ability to impact up front and defensively
Dundee are a good side and their points total should be higher but unlike other Scottish teams they can not second guess our line up.
A domestic cup game against an inform rejunvated Aberdeen then comes quickly on the Saturday. I trust us to ram them from the first kick off and Pen them in.
On Guy Fawkes night we face a very strong Saxon challenge. It would be bang out of order to expect the same players to explode into action continually.
Ignite the thunder and hold on to your hats. This is a journey to savour.
HH.
Here’s hoping Aberdeen and the Huns experience 90+ minutes of a physical battle that leaves their key players battered, bruised and knackered. And that Aberdeen score a winner in injury time that sends the hordes into meltdown.
They then have an “easy” semifinal against Motherwell but if they lose on Wednesday the pressure on them on Nov 3rd will be massive.Clement would not survive if they lose both games.

Agree with your observations on Man Utd – the club has spent £1billion on transfers since Fergie left and probably another quarter of a billion on ten managers – permanent and interim(signing on/wages/paying off) – access to seemingly limitless funds fuels this craziness.
It happened at Ibrox of course, albeit on a smaller scale, when Murray was being bankrolled – the difference being that Man Utd have not, as far as we know, resorted to illegal payments, side letters and invalid contracts to get players on the pitch and managers in and out of the dugout.
I know there are these new financial rules coming into play, but I can’t help feeling the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Barca, Real, Juve and the like will rail against them, ‘throw the toys out of their respective prams’ and resurrect the Super League project with the enormous sums in offer from finance houses in the US.
Yes I am glad we are not run in this way.
Down Ibrox way they search for Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell clones to fill the void and run their club – truth is if they had managed to get this calibre of executive at the turn of the century, they wouldn’t be where they are now; and neither would we.
Bada
Thanks for posting that link. I’ll be chuckling all night.
Dobyin/cloud9/Jhb/Andrena,Tommy the ranter
Cerny is ‘pish’ ‘shoit’ or any other expletive you want to punctuate.not Celtic class and tell you fellow ‘flegsookers’ next time they influence you.
-I don’t believe that there is now any institutionalised bias in favour of, or, against, any particular club in Scotland;
Of course you don’t,you will be able to enlighten the blog when the “institutional bias” ceased to be/stopped.i think your own bias is coming g out there
Greenpinata
GP-Maybe fans should note that the referee pool is almost dry.
AT-We could encourage more referees outwith S.Lanarkshire
-we could ask referees to disclose the club they supported growing up.
-I recall on twatter a few years ago 24 European countries where surveyed asking do the disclose?Scotland was only one who did not reply, whys that? Even in Norn islan they disclose and they have a smaller pool than here
GpThen what happens ?
At-We seek help of UEFA,precedent set as they went on strike after openly cheating re doogi-doogi we got refs from Europe(oops Celtics fault too).it would benefit the game here and maybe stop some of the incompetence displayed with the farmyard challenges seen over the weekend
Gp-At the Euros earlier this year the best 19 referees that EUFA had took to the stage. A crucial part in a theatre that over 5 billion people tuned in to.
AT full disclosure of who they supported
Scotland has one of the highest average attenders, pay them and review competently errors with full disciplinary record if the have a howler
– Going further GP why not fully disclose all communication, var chats one hour after game.
-As fans we view football regularly let’s reduce the paranoia and evidence decisions fully.a full demistifacatio or ‘releasetheknuckle’
– Pay them a professionalvwage
Gp-But every single one of these elite referees had suffered abuse, some with death threats.
– shine a light on those prickslike was done with Neil Francis Lennon, tho his public assault at Tynecastle augmented the feeling of inculcated institutional bias
Gp-Institutionilised bias is indeed a thing of the past and Celtic are not the only club to be subject to poor decisions.
AT same question to you as was ‘put’ to the ‘multifaced’ moniker!
When did the institutional bias stop against Celtic?
Can you shed any light on it?
Last Thursday 9pm or Sunday evening at 7.30 :-)))
Institutional bias does not change at flick of switch,I see nothing to augment your view, quite the opposite in fact.
Keep smiling.

KINGLUBO
Agree about Kuhn. Jamesie didn’t have a bad game but his lack of pace meant that not much was happening down that side until the much pacier Kuhn came on .
James is a great sub to bring on around 65 mins when a safe pair of hands (or feet) is required , but Nicholas has the pace and directness whick Brendanball requires .
“Greenpinata on 28th October 2024 10:56 am
Just imagine Man United Quick News after an outrageous penalty decision that cost them the game.
Poor refereeing is not the sole ownership of Scotland.”
True….but biased refereeing in favour of one team is certainly prevalent in Scotland.

Superbru Round 9 Update
On a weekend where none of our 70 punters predicted a win for St. Johnstone, we might have expected a low winning score this weekend but some folk managed to pick their way nicely through the remaining 5 fixtures and score healthily.
Our top performers this week were:-
1= fitbabhoy & Spootiemad- 10.5 pts
3= fess 19 & The class of 67- 9 pts
As for the bottom dwellers, we had 2 guys Angel Gabriel & Chalmersbhoy who failed to predict 6 and 3 fixtures respectively and yet still managed to finish above our bottom 20 performers as a result of “default picks” which means they get allocated the preferred pick of the rest of the QNQS community. This approach is not recommended as you are only allowed 15 default picks per season.
Those managing to underperform our non-predictors included:-
joint 68th- mckenna_88 & Garry Postecoglou (Sobriety is not a surefire approach)-2 pts
70th- all on his Tod- the ever unreliable Friedorfer- our Hearts & our Hibs- 1.5 pts
The overall leaderboard now reads:-
1.- The Token Tim- 70 pts (Julie’s picks continues to boost her man’s ego)
2.-Gaz- 66.5 pts
3= BC Milan, Cosy Corner Bhoy & Big Archie- all on 62 pts
Whereas down in the depths, keeping company with the Pseudoliparis Snailfish & the Dumbo Octopus, we find:-
68th – An Tearmann- 37 pts
69th- Jonny The Tim- 35 pts
70th- BelmontBrian63- 34.5 pts
I am noting a disproportionate amount of Shipbank regulars crowding at the bottom )Big Jimmy is 4th bottom)- maybe Jonny needs to join them and get honorary membership. Leggy’s membership is under review as he’s flying too high.
~Round 10 starts again on Wednesday night with 6 SPFL fixtures- starting from 7.45pm for the first deadline. Vote early and vote often!
Hot Smoked.
Then the biased Referees are not vey influential.
Their team have never won the league with fans in attendance

Hot Smoked.

Again true but I still believe they get more than their fair share of dodgy decisions.
HS
True….but biased refereeing in favour of one team is certainly prevalent in Scotland.
👍
AT,
I refer you to the answer i gave Hot Smoked.
As for NFL. I would imagine one of the greatest hurt was his own fans giving him dogs abuse after all that he suffered for being the manager of Celtic.
HH.
Greenpinata
That covers institutional bias then.Really weak answer my friend.we differ vastly.but yir a tim.
It is still rife
