Making money from Jose, spoiled brat McGregor

229

There is money to be made from Celtic.  You don’t need to be a player or one of the backroom staff, you don’t even need to sell flags and scarves outside the ground.  If you are going through a major story drought and can attach a name to the vacant manager’s job, chances are you will create your two biggest stories of the year.

The same is true of the betting markets.  If he leaves Newcastle, Rafael Benitez (third favourite for the Celtic job), has options in China that would make him inordinately wealthy within a season.  He is not coming to Glasgow.

Roberto Martinez (fourth favourite for the Celtic job), is manager of Belgium – who top the Fifa rankings.  He will take some of the most gifted footballers in the game to the Euro 2020 finals in June and July next year.  If he gave that up to come to Celtic he would fail every professional criteria you would want in a Celtic manager.  This is simply not the time for Roberto, he and Rafael feature on the betting markets purely to take cash from the gullible.

Jose Mourinho fits the profile of the Benitez and Martinez stories.  He is pure 100% show business, a bankable commodity – if you and a journalist or a bookmaker.

What I know for sure is that Celtic want the treble and will do no more than send out holding messages until after the Scottish Cup Final.  This is a chance to record another remarkable historic achievement, the Treble, Treble.

Jose could alight at Dalmarnock Station this afternoon but he would not be getting an interview for the Celtic job.  Nothing will interfere with Neil Lennon’s preparation for the Cup Final.

Allan McGregor’s sending off yesterday was a truly awful incident but it is wholly the responsibility of the SFA Disciplinary Panel.  McGregor has been doing that all season, including against Kristoffer Ajer at Celtic Park.

The Disciplinary Panel decided not to take action, perhaps rendered mute by the sheer volume of red cards shown to other Newco players, but in doing so they established that this was acceptable behaviour.  Allow spoiled brats to kick others without consequence and they will continue to kick others.

Never drank in Yogis… played fitba for their team in the Sunday night league but for some reason they went back to the Eagle inn … Glenboig … big shop & wee shop weren’t my type of boozers to far out of my comfort zone :-)

I hope we talk employ a manager who requires big spending as a pre-requisite. What’s the point?

To achieve the same or less than we have for the past 8 seasons?

Spending our rainy day savings to qualify for the CL group stages doesn’t make sense. It just sets us up for unsustainable costs that will require downsizing – probably for the following manager.

Just get a manager who can continue our domestic dominance- not necessarily a treble – and have a wee run in Europe as a bonus.

And play with style, flair, attacking and integrity.

big spending supersutton – we can’t afford a loanee who can’t get a game in the championship – I agree with you – hope our recent strategies turn up decent players . We need some renewal for the next 2 years.

Hail Hail, and what a greight weekend.

We win the title, McGregor gets sent off, my high school team is in the final four over here in Alabama, kids started singing Walk on , on the bus ride home, daughters make their confirmation tomorrow.

We have chosen for the Ghirls,

Myles Kathleen ‘feck the huns ‘McBride

Mary Siena ‘ wishy’s green and white’ McBride

Might have some explaining to do to the Bishop the morra. Very sad to see Davie Provan attacking Broonie after the win on Saturday. I know folks have to make a living, but it is n’t a living when you are kicking the club that made you, at every opportunity.

  5. It’s a funny old world. A few weeks ago, as we struggled to put 8 in a row to bed, I just wanted the season to be finished but now that we’ve sealed the deal, I’m not in such a hurry for things to come to an end. There’s still a lot to look forward to: Ibrox on Saturday, the Presentation of the League trophy on the last day and Cup Final at Hampden in which we can seal the Rebel Treble Treble.

On Sunday, we can now relax. Play our strongest available team and play them off the park. 1-0 will do me. Surely there will be a great outpouring of joy at Celtic Park in the final game against the Jambos. It has been a rollercoaster of a season but our Bhoys got the job done in style at Pittodrie. Then the big day on 25 May when we again meet the Jambos and hopefully give them the scudding that they deserve. I’m excited because it’ll be a new experience for me watching Celtic against Hearts in a Scottish Cup Final. What a day it will be if we win that treble!

Then there’s the managerial appointment to get excited about. Will it be Lenny or someone new? I’m not sure what my choice would be. I can see pros and cons on both sides. I do think, however, the Board owe it to themselves and the support to consider carefully who is out there and would improve the Club both domestically and in Europe. My hope is that Steve Clarke will accept the job but I will support whoever is appointed.

    Hail! Hail!

The Eagle was the first boozer to show Celtic games live on dodgy streams, one of my nephews if attending the games goes on their bus … if you know of the Eagle you will probably know the Berry’s :-)

When attending our bus left fae the Fountain Bar … although St James’s bus was our bus for Pittodrie

  7. Headtheball on

The bold Derek McInnes has become a sensitive little snowflake as he complains yet again about chanting, this time at Pittodrie.

I don’t agree with the song but where has he been all these years?

  8. What is the Stars on

Does any one remember the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth from last August.

Peter Lawwell is the devil incarnate. He has presided over one of the most under achieving periods in Celtics history. When he was finally forced to spend money on a decent coach he undermined him and forced him out.

    WITS,

Are you being sarcastic, ironic, or what.

Do you want PL to go?

  10. Fake news or should we say Mourinho for Celtic? without doubt another one for the Fairy Tales Of Ireland. A man who sacked his female physio for daring to help one of his badly injured players at Chelsea. No thanks., although I’ll say one good thing in his favour he always maintained Celtic should be playing in the EPL.

Great to see James Forrest winning his richly deserved Scottish Player Of The Year award from his peers. James has been a joy to watch – a wizard of the dribble and a huge contributor to bringing more trophies to Paradise.

We all know about BR’s wealth and his substantial property portfolio and according to a TV sports commentator on RTE, Herr Klopp currently rents and dwells in one of BR’s properties in Liverpool . More power to your elbow, Brendan and who knows you may even do him a big favour by beating Man City in to-night’s big match.

  12. Why complain about rodgers, he done a good job for celtic and then he left, he is away, we move on and there is no need to look back. Lets get behinf NFL now with scottish cup last goal of the season.

Thanks for the memories rodgers and the 9 million from LCFC will go some way to paying for the rightback, centreback and striker we need for next season.

Our key players are playing to many games. If we qualify for group stage european football we should be playing our second string and academy kids in domesitc cups to give a good level of rest to the mainstay and to allow the second string and academy kids to show us what then have. Priority next season is the league and european football.

Think it’s now the “Woodside” bar for a wee while Peter Heatherston (former Aberdeen player but big Celtic fan) had it and think it was called Heatherstons …. am not too up with the Kirkwood stuff so my whim post might be incorrect :-)

  14. The media don’t like Celtic being serial winners. It may be to do with circulation and viewing figures. But that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy giving Celtic a kicking .

As for Celtic, their support comes mainly – but not exclusively – from about 16% of Scotland’s population and not all that 16% supports Celtic. So, Celtic is very much a minority club and that makes its success all the more remarkable. But success is resented. So, the possibility of TEN will bring with it more resentment.

If Celtic maintain their dominance for the next two seasons our media will be saddened – with any luck

  15. theoriginalsadiesbhoy

Doubt very much if there are many on here who have actually seen a Celtic-Hearts SC Final but no doubt there will be a few. Amazing to think it has not happened since 1956. And we lost that one too.

Will make up for it this time I’m sure.

  16. TonTine Tim

You said we should have been in the CL after Christmas.

Maybe it’s you that doesn’t have a clue about Europe?

Brendans Raphael record in Europe is 2CL group stages and 2 last 32 Europa.

I for one would bite your hand off for the same again.

Have posters forgot the humpings , home and away to Molde, i haven’t.

Now that is Raphael in Europe.

Every manager we’ve ever had (including the present one) has ‘left’ But not one of them left in the way Rodgers left . The manner and timing of it could have been catastrophic and Rodgers would surely have known that was a possibility.

  21. Have Aberdeen, or any other club for that matter, publicly stated that their fans should cease singing the”Jimmy Saville” song. If not why not? por cierto

  22. I believe that Celtic should withhold all away tickets for Celtic Park for all supporters of visiting clubs who have sang that song. Wouldn’t lose money if they did, so let’s have it Celtic. por cierto

  26. We all owe P67 a great deal for his work on this site. However he is dependent upon Peter for the. occasional insights and exclusives. All media outlets are the same, there is no great secret or shame in that. It’s the way of the world.

We need a new manager. No doubt Lenny has his advocates in the boardroom, Peter probably the biggest of them.

We knew BR was leaving, though the speed of his departure took everyone by surprise.

However the deciding voice will be Dermot’s, no one else’s. Peter can put out his agenda but Dermot calls the shots.

Much as I love Lenny, he is not the man to take us forward. Even if José, Rafa or Moyes knocks us back, there is still a major gap until you get to Lenny.

We paid BR something like £2M a year. If we are serious then we pay the next guy the same.

£2M gets you a better manager than Lenny!
