Making money out of England and Amsterdamers troubles

742

Over the last few days of the European transfer window I was keen to find out what business Ajax would be able to complete (what Milan and Barca did is of scant interest).  Between Friday and yesterday Ajax lost two players, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen moved to Tottenham, and yesterday, Belgian defender, Toby Alderweireld joined Atletico Madrid.

Both were big players for the Dutch champions, who could realise €20m from the sales, but attempts to sign Ola John from Benfica and Eljero lia of Werder Bremen failed, instead they paid Heracles Almelo €2.5m for midfielder Lerin Duarte.

The Amsterdamers had a frustrating final few hours of the window.  No doubt potential targets were worried about having to face three huge teams in the Champions League.  In a difficult group, this is what counts as a break for Celtic.  Only five games into their league season and without Champions League qualifiers to use as a yardstick, the group stage will come early for Ajax.

Living adjacent to an over-monied behemoth has considerable drawbacks as even our top clubs struggle to retain teenagers in the face of English lower league competition but such a rich market can also bring enough transfer income to make the difference between feast and famine.

The English Premier League spent £445m on transfers outside England but apart from Celtic and Hamilton Accies, who between them will earn around 4% of that total, I don’t think anyone else in Scotland got a piece of the action.

Nurturing and selling talent to England has to be a strategy for dozens of clubs here.  Paying (for them) top wages to players who are no longer able to gain employment in England can only be considered a waste by comparison.

  2. Thought they might prefer this type of Brown instead of the Brigadier:

    Bomber Sauce

1-28ounce can of whole tomatoes. use a good grade. I use Trader Joe’s Whole Tomato’s.

1-Bunch of flat leaf parsley. About a cup’s worth.

2-3-Cloves Garlic. As always use fresh. you might want to start out using 2 cloves at first. it gets really potent.

A good glug of Olive Oil, Salt and Pepper to taste.

Throw it all in a blender or food processor and puree away until all of the garlic and parsley are uniform in size. Store in an airtight container. Although instantly ready to use. It is better and of course more potent the next day.

Sometimes I will throw in a few Basil leaves too. Make it your own style.

On second thoughts maybe too much garlic for the undead.

My comments were directed at Ogilvie.

To see opposite him the CEO of the most vibrant and powerful club in Scottish Football , Celtic , will cut him to the bone.

He aided and abetted the worst excesses of the old ibrox club and unwittingly contributed to their ultimate demise. His legacy is their liquidation. Behind that smarmy, false smile is a guy who knows he has failed and his time is up. He will retire quietly and soon be forgotten to be remembered as an administrator.

With Pedro in place and people like Rod Petrie present , there is some hope the SFA will move into the 21st century , away from the bowling club sub committee approach and drive the necessary change at all levels of the game in Scotland.

Within 10 years we could see a dramatic change with Scotland appearing regularly in Euros / world cups and Celtic an annual fixture in the CL.

Pedro is not the only change required on the SFA board. Half of that shower of degenerates should be sacked and others appointed. Personally I would find a seat for Turnbull Hutton who showed his worth during all the shenanigans.

Campbell Ogilvie I salute you for your personal contribution in the demise of RFC. I admire your back breaking efforts in support of the tribute act. Its funny to see an SFA President be an unconscious incompetent.

    3 September, 2013

The fundraising is stopped for Wee Oscar, as there should be enough (?) money for the treatment that ironically MacKenzie has now started, thanks to the intervention of the Scottish Government. Horrendous for all these kids that suffer and rely on charity to save their life. BRTH petition is very important.

The problem for Wee Oscar, whilst clear of cancer, he was not strong enough to get the immunization treatment and nearly passed away in Philly, on several occasions. The specialised hospital probably is the reason he is still with us today, as they undertook pioneering treatment to save his life when his lung collapsed. Also the willpower and the determination of Wee Oscar and his family with many nations and friends supporting in my view cannot be underestimated. The family survive on this. This is there outlet never to give up.

So after a couple of months of normal (?) family life and a fabolous trip to CP, the cancer came back with a vengeance, but the family stays strong and determined and so does our Celtic Warrior . So the family has to start the fight again with more risk and more danger.

However, all during this, there was nothing financially to support the family to pay bills, the mortgage and enjoy Christmas, birthdays etc with no income. The Wee Oscar4Life campaign (and CQN amongst others) recognised this and raised money direct for the family during this harrowing time.

The “changing the moniker” campaign we had recently raised a further £1100 to support the family and we will send something special to the family with all the names very soon, once I have worked out what this will be :-).

The one thing that needs changed, in fact, the only thing that needs changing……

Is to have a transparent refereeing system, make them accountable for their decisions, have an honest and open refereeing board, a board who will promote and demote referees who don’t act fairly, and consistently.

Have an open meeting after every round of games, where questions are asked of the referees, why did they do this, why did they do that, etc, etc.

Let the footballers play football, consign the hammer throwers to the past, in the grave with their former lovers.

A level playing field on the park will benefit all of scottish football, it will benefit the future generations.

If Pedro can achieve this, they can cheat all they want off the park, it will matter not a feckin jot.

All we should insist on is changing the referees, the rest will follow, it will be inevitable.

This is the important bit from the response to asonofdan (and good on him for making the effort)

“On inspecting our records, it would appear

that Glasgow City Council does not hold

any minutes or correspondence where threats

were made by the Safety Advisory Group to

revoke the Club’s safety certificate. Neither

does anyone else hold it on our behalf.

Therefore this information would be exempt

under Section 17 of the Act. This is because

    no such correspondence or minutes

    exist within the Council.”

Does this mean that a) the meeting was minuted but there was no mention of revoking the safety certificate or b) there was no minutes taken at all?

If a) the club are hung out to dry on that one. I read it as b) there was no minutes taken at all, which is convenient for the protagonists and leaves us in a state of he said/she said.

I find it hard to believe that the meeting wasn’t documented in some form or another, but at the same time it wouldn’t surprise me with GCC.
