Maley, Stein, McNeill, O’Neill, Strachan and now Lennon

913

Good afternoon, champions!  If you enjoy your history……….

Yesterday, Celtic retained the league title, which has been a rare achievement for much of our history.  We won six in a row during the first decade of the 20th century, then won four in a row (1914-17) during the Great War, but it would be another 50 years before Celtic retained the league title, on 6th May 1967.

Jock Stein re-wrote all the rules during his nine in a row era but after that ended in 1974,  Billy McNeill retained the tile in 1982 and it would be another 20 years before Martin O’Neill retained it, the only time he did so.

Gordon Strachan then set about writing his own chapter in our history, retaining the league in 2007 and 2008, while becoming only the third manager in our history, after Willie Maley and Stein, to win three in a row (history awaits you, Neil).

Neil Lennon now joins a select band of Celtic managers, Maley, Stein, McNeill, O’Neill and Strachan, who have retained the league title.

In total Celtic have retained the league title 22 times but yesterday was only the fourth time since nine in a row.  It was the sixth time in total we have won two in a row.

Remarkably, of the 13 times Celtic have retained the league since 1919, this is only the third time it has been achieved at Celtic Park, the other occasions being when we beat St Mirren in 1982 (remember unwelcome half time news from Pittodrie over the PA?), and Livingston, to win the 2002 title.  Lazy journalism prevents me from confirming which of the pre-1920 titles were won at Celtic Park.

This is your history, I hope you enjoy the memories as much as I do.

The Andrea Kearney Fund, which supports women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy, is holding its annual dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow on Saturday 1 June.  The event is excellent value with a cracking line up of entertainment, including Ricky Ross, Michelle McManus and Lou Hickey.  The fight against this disease goes on….

You can book a table here.  Look forward to seeing you at the dinner.

Enjoying the incredulous Sevco 5088 events, more on that later.

Service notice:
Still some work planned on the mobile site.

Hope everyone has recovered from yesterday, what a day! Awesome. Saw this morning Neil thinks Hooper will stay. I think he knows him better than the press and i’m going to stick with Neil’s opinion on this one. I think GH can only get better with us. I know money talks but he’s not top notch yet and the big four (ahem as far as PL is concerned) is just to high for him just now. Needs more consistancy and that will only come with practice at Celtic Park. ;) Negative media? who cares? they will never change, Don’t let them make you angry., Just think in 6 months we will be the only thing to write about and they will have to come crawling or look for a different career. He who laughs last………………………………

  6. Just heard the brilliant news that Wee Oscar has beaten cancer!!!!

As if we weren’t happy enough at being crowned champions again yesterday!! this news just makes the world look EVEN better!!

Absolutely delighted for the Wee man and the Knox family

and although they would kill me for saying so, a MAJOR thumbs up for the Wee Oscar 4 Life team.

These guys have raised SO SO much money for the Wee mans cause and also for the Neuroblastoma alliance charity but even more than that, they have created so much positive energy by bringing so many people together in a common cause.

This surely must have had a major impact on Wee Oscar to give him and his family an extra boost at some of the hardest times over the last year or two.

Bhoys and Ghirls you are amazing well done!!

    Hail Hail Wee Oscar

  10. History being rewritten! Approximately 2 weeks ago I posted the Wikipedia page on the ownership of the zombie club and the role of Sevco 5088. It stated quite categorically that the assets of the liquidated hun had been purchased by Sevco 5088. I see today, when accessing the same page, that it has been completely rewritten and now claims that said assets were purchased by Sevco Scotland. Fortunately we are blessed with a plethora of Internet Bampots who have revealed the truth and uncovered the lies of the Establishment and the MSM. Brace yourself for what promises to be a lengthy and entertaining court case and woe betide whoever loses the case as the financial costs will be astronomical. Should the zombies lose this one there will be no further resurrection for the living dead. The time to wield those baseball bats has come upon us.

    Coup de grâce

Congratulations to Neil Lennon, his coaching staff and the entire squad in helping Celtic to retain the title.

Never an easy task, and Celtic’s championship win looks like happening on the same weekend as Manchester United’s – seemingly their league is the best in the world (no laughing).

I look forward to the questions on whether they miss Leeds when they do secure the title.

I say that because I just watched our game again on the telly. Tiresome, but predictable, references to Berwick throughout the television broadcast – I assume it was Berwick, as they are the only Rangers I can think of playing football in Scotland.

Shows how much they are really hurting though – take note all of you on here who seem to think they got away with it … it’s obvious the Zombies in the media don’t share that view.

  16. Congratulations to all involved in supporting Oscar in his glorious victory.

Would love to see them all at Celtic Park on Trophy Day,

  19. If the World could be more perfect than it is today for us, then the gentlemen of the SFA at Hampden will, at this moment, be drafting up the Statement to cancel the Licence issued under false pretences to Sevco5088.

Queens Park will be worthy winners of the SFL Div.3.

It will then become obvious that the recent Gallowgate incident was merely a rehearsal for dealing with the forecasted “civil unrest”, which is sure to follow (x2).

It was nothing personal, just an exercise to be in readiness for the inevitable.

  20. thomthethim

The only thing they will be doing at hampden is trying to figure out a way to keep them in the SFL.

They shouldn’t have been allowed in the leagues in the first place. They will never kick them back out. I don’t see it happening under any circumstances. Rangers went as close as they will ever come to disappearing. It’s clear that operation save Scottish football is in full flow.

    Very sad

Great news re Wee Oscar – what a brilliant story

Bit rough this morning – mixing beer with Whisky and the Champagne after the match maybe wasn’t my smartest move but it was a good day yesterday.

Congratulations to NFL and his team – funny season at times but there have been some great performances – and some stinkers . I haven’t missed Zombie FC at all – although as they are never off the telly it’s not as though they haven’t been there anyway.

Congratulations too to former Celt Michael McGlinchey who has helped Central Coast Mariners to their first A League Grand Final.
