Ross Grant, Celtic’s first dedicated set-piece coach, is an interesting addition to the backroom team. He worked in the same role at Hearts last term, which resulted in four set-piece goals against Celtic for the Edinburgh side, not counting a penalty.
Any one manager can be great at one thing and poor at another. For example, Wilfried Nancy was great at speaking French, but poor at preparing for set-pieces. Maybe if Grant had been here last season, Wilfried would have had us best in the league at set-pieces and speaking French.
I hope Ross works on throw-ins too. I still flinch at the thought of Shakhtar Karagandy’s throw-ins during Champions League qualification in 2013. Celtic were panicked by them in the second leg, and almost went out because of one.
Appointing a specialist coach builds on a theme we have discussed recently: breaking the manager’s tasks down into its constituent parts. After the Scottish Cup Final, Martin O’Neill admitted he was not totally up with the nuances of modern tactics. Nor is he the man who takes training. He is the leader of the management team, delegating responsibility to the most appropriate person. Hopefully we have seen the last of the ego on legs-type.

I reserve comment on this appointment…not on the candidate or the actual role but, once again, who is making these decisions?
Who was ‘the last of the ego on legs-type?’
ego on legs .
ffs let it go man
New phone, who dis?
Paul 67,
I am acutely aware its your blog and subsequently your ball.
However two points if I may :
I think we need to evict BR from our heads.
Hearts should not be our benchmark. We won the league, no matter what the table below shows.
Back to us and more specifically our communication regarding vitally important information.
Does anybody on here who attends Parkhead know how many defibrillators we have and their location.
To my shame knowing the importance of such vitally important equipment. I don’t.
HH.

our throw ins last year were schoolboy. Invariably we lost possession, Corners were engles deliveries into six yard box ad hope for a header. free kicks..try a shot.
We looked like a very poorly coached team
“Hopefully we have seen the last of the ego on legs-type.”
Well for me, the egotisical football manager is an archetype – you’ll be wanting rational goalkeepers and sane drummers next…
Ange is a prime example, a charismatic, talented football manager who knew there was only one way to play football…
Interestingly enough, no one ever convinced him there was a middle way.
Well for the longest time…
He was eventually undone in the EPL with Spurs…
Yet before he was “emptied”, he had a trophy to win, a European trophy.
Of course Angeball had run it’s course and if you ever watched the semi-final and the dire final of the Europa that season, you will have seen quite clearly Ange and his Angeball had been shelved.
However the great man was more than happy to take the plaudits for another trophy…
Ange and his ego are alive and well and on the telly, as the legend becomes a football TV personality.
Scotland NT could well do with Ange and his ego in charge…
Hail Hail
i cant take the hearts supposed threat seriously.
i feel they blew the biggest chance to win the thing they will ever get.
the analytics thing. big deal.
they lost 2 of their tools.
as to rangers. hiring a second place manager and the non scoring scotland world cup failure . so what
it is about what we do .

Saint Stivs @ 12:26 pm,
Yes, Tony Bloom himself said it would take a few seasons – only the “old firm” flaffing about gave them the opening.
To be fair to Hearts they don’t over emphasis the data analytics stuff, their new manager was quite clear on his approach aims and objectives.
Jamestown is reknowned for what they do but like we talked before, the data and analytics is tool…

Rather than discussing Hearts most days and the usual Rodgers comments I’d like you to offer your view on the largest shareholder, the interim chairman, the CEO, the recruitment team and strategy. How does this all fit with a so called progressive club?
We may win trophies but i’d give up plenty to watch football played with a squad full of Celtic men and proper goalscorers. Football has changed for the worse but we can’t go back so let us hear the plans now that the season ticket money is in, rather than just asking for more for friendlies and trips.
Do we have a strategy? Genuine plans? Is tjis season to be transitional?
Or are the empty promises of Brian Wilson the usual politicians lies and waffle?
A big thank you to all who donated to my nominated charity, Glasgow City Mission in June. I know that many lurk on here and don’t post, I greatly appreciate your help. Anyways, tomorrow it’s back to keeping publicans in gainful employment. Bloody rabble that they are.

So we’ve hired someone to teach players how to kick a ball. Well that’s a start.

Thank you much for your response and in particular for attached doc. re FSR/Q&A etc. Very Informative.
Would tend to agree that Celtic’s Annual Report, lacks detailed breakdown in some areas, (operational costs/amortisation eg), for a 80 page doc. but as noted they are not compiled for UEFA. And to be fair there is a lot of info in the extensive ‘Financial Notes’. Given we are likely to receive substantial transfer income over the summer, Engels/Maeda et al, how much scope do you think we have in terms of outgoing expenditure, in the context of the relevant FSR/UEFA time period?

That is precisely the point.
We mostly know where defibrillators are located at work, but when we attend Parkhead the majority of us don’t have a clue.
Which is disgraceful and unacceptable for regular attendees at a high profile 60k venue.
As previously stated ,I am also guilty of this unacceptable negligence.
It must be incorporated into enhancement of the match day experience.

I can say without qualification that neither @celticCSL nor http://STAT26.com has been active in the share market as that would be a really stupid thing to try and do given its impossible to to buy £2m shares in the market.

Havent you and others been speculating on Celtic shares being traded
In particular by David Lows CSL and willie Haugheys STAT
David Low stating on social media that both the CSL and STAT26 have not been active in the share market
Speculate away or not

Vale Bhoy, a question I ask repeatedly!! Just WHO is making these decisions? We may very well have a functioning ‘recruitment’ department, but, as there is zero communication directed towards the fans, we just wouldn’t know.
My own personal nightmare is that The Mute is sitting in his office dreaming up moves in and out. If not him then who. Someone must have decided to release players, not to pursue Ian Archer (sic) or Scratchy, and someone must have the authority to do so, but …… who? The same person/group who was involved in last summer’s great player trading, appointing Nancy (to considerable fanfare remember) and then the shockingly inactive January transfer window when Martin publicly stated on more than one occasion that targets were being pursued?
Apart from the first sentence, all of the above is factual, not opinion. And that adds another layer of worry.

I agree on both your points.
1. Hearts blew it last season and won’t , IMHO, get that close again and
2. Derek McInnes is a tool

Lots of chat about Strategy on this blog. It seems that a lot of posters here don’t quite grasp what a Strategy is. Talk here is if the Strategy is the ‘Thing’.
However, a Strategy in itself is useless.
Maybe this could help…..
A goal is your desired destination, and a strategy is the overarching plan or transportation method you use to reach it.
The goal is the target. Does any of us know what the Board’s goal is? I don’t know what it is.
‘Look, we have a map….’
‘Great. Now where are we going?’
‘No idea’.
‘But we have a map’.
This is where we are. We are asking the wrong questions.
Weeron.
St.Stivs
I would interpret that as any inc/dec in the share price is due to share activity outside of David Low/williehaughey.
I would dismiss as speculatory garbage by bet365
As you know Stivs the 2 parties are fishing in a limited pool as other shareholders snd their holdings are well laid out
Hope you got to Urquart Castle, and Jessie didnt bite

Yes, spot on…
You have a demographic that could be high risk in that environment, and many including stewards that could help – it would be tragic if a sudden attack led to preventable outcomes.
