Manager and team must show stoic unity

1148

You can train to be a football player for years, hone your skills and work on your fitness, but there are situations you can never prepare for until you are in the spotlight.  Yesterday Mark Wilson had to field questions about his team-mates’ performance and his manager’s position, after another abject performance which drew criticisms from Neil Lennon towards the players.

Mark gave a textbook response to the BBC, “I don’t like slagging my team-mates off but we have to do better.

“Football is a result-driven game but we don’t want that [Neil Lennon sacked].  We are firmly behind the manager and we love working with him and the coaching staff.”

We should be in no doubt that harsh words are being spoken in the dressing room and team spirit must be awful, but the outside world need to see stoic unity.

  1. LionsR … @ Previous thread.

You can’t run a country as an extended college.

And anyway what brilliant academic institutions are you talking about?

ST A’s = English finishing school and home of right wing economic butters.

AbU and DU = Small scale, good in parts but twee in the extreme.

Stath … = Looking a bit tired and struggling to match it’s recent past.

Glesga = Not getting the love it needs.

The only one making progress at the moment is surprise, surprise …

Auld Reekie, home of the East Coast Mafia and Oxbridge rejects.

Consequently your point does make sense on these two issues.

Scotland is becoming more like England by the day and you want to got it on your own?

Glasgow has more in common with Liverpool, Belfast, Manchester, Newcastle …

… Than it has with Edinburgh, Bristol, Dublin, Cambridge …

I take it we now have the irony of a CFC fan wanting to join the EPL / FA to get away from the SFA, the refs and rampant sectarianism yet wanting Scotland to be independent with the charlatan that is Wee Eck running the show?

All I can say is –

Blow it out yer erse ya rocket.

  2. I’m a first time poster I have been lurking for years.I have a problem with Neil Lennon. He has red hair. He is a Nothern Irish Catholic. He will not be telt or intimidated. He has a better head to head record with Cardihun. He still wont get the message after the Scottish judicial system embarressed the country. He cupped his ears at Ibrox. What must we do to get shot of him and preserve our beloved arch rivals. I worry for his mental health I really do. Anybody that wore fleecy trackie bottoms while warming up before Porto in 38 centigrade heat is not the full shilling. I would go for Billy Davies. He is a hun but we need someone in the inside and Tommy Sheridan says he has a tiny tadger and therefore will not intimidate the players in the shower.

Standing up for Billy Davies with my back against the wall.

Real question on Naismith tackle was referee not applying rules.

Why are referees not accountable in spl?

I stand by what I posted earlier. I know the media et al would have a field day for a very prolonged term if that scenario were to happen. If the tables were turned I know how fee.l As for your last seven words, cmon you are just being silly now.

Joking about what? That I feel we should stand by Lenny, or he may get an offer from Leicester a team he played for and is still held in high regard by their fans?

  7. Harping on about the Hun’s troubles and our treatment by Officialdom in Scotland is only providing a smokescreen. Lennon knew, The Team knew and we the supporters knew that yesterday’s game against Hibs was a must win game. Yet they went out and gave a rank rotten performance. I know lads who spent a couple of hundred going over to Glasgow this weekend to witness that. Enough is enough do we have to drop to 4th or 5th place before something happens. Lennon and the Board should offer an apology to fans and if the fightback does not commence next Sunday they both should resign.

  10. I keep reading that the players that we have are good enough.

    They are not.

We have a poor management team and an equally poor pool of overated players, some may even say prima donnas.

  11. The thought of the huns doing 4 in a row makes me feel ill,,,,,but to make matters worse it looks like we are going to hand Mcmoist the title in his first season in charge,if it wasnt so serious you would have to laugh,,,what do we have to do to stop the rot??????????????

Excellent assessment on what the Establishment want to happen and what, in all justice, should happen.

Rangers’ misdemeanors are of a scale, that should see them obliterated.

As I posted earlier, my passion for the game is on hold until their situation is resolved.

By resolved, I mean punished into extinction.

If not, then Celtic MUST give notice of registration, as, to continue in the Scottish setup would be to acquiesce in the corruption…….and that would be a step too far for me.

Along with what Brogan Rogan wrote yesterday morning, that, in a nutshell, is what it’s all about.

I have just one quibble with your otherwise excellent post

“No CV to justify getting the job (board’s fault not Neil’s – 100%)”

I know it is ultimately the Board’s decision to select the manager. The roadshows that took place before his appointment, were the public face of a bizarre recruitment process, and will allow PL to claim, with some justification that NL selection was a joint decision between the club’s fans and the Board.

The fans who took part in the shabby, amateurish process should seriously reflect how their loyalty and good will towards their club was so callously misused. NL willingly aided and abetted the PL charade.

I don’t profess to be very clued up about the qualities neccessary to manage a football club, but in March of last year I could have named ( and did at the time) a dozen reasons for Neil Lennon not being allowed anywhere near the Celtic manager’s job.

    Poolbhoy16.46

    Now I know. You’re joking.

  18. i think the blind loyalty shown towards neil lennon by many celtic fans [especially] on here has some aspect to blame for our current plight.

other poor celtic managers with a similar record have been chased out of town.

perhaps because of the disgusting sectarian and criminal treatment lenny has been up against from other quaters many celtic fans have taken their ‘eye off the ball’.

the bottom line is that lennons team are pretty patchy…perhaps its time we got a new man in because we appear to be going nowhere fast.

    p.s

the next time a celtic player actually justyfies his wage and position and actually plays well for a couple of months could the excited on here perhaps refrain from banding around fairytale 10 milion pound price tags!

it dosent do anyone any good to have an over-importance of their worth…….ask izegerie, hooper and kayal!!

  19. Andrew Smith:

WHEN a supposedly skint Rangers lavished £4 million on Nikica Jelavic in the summer of 2010, the Croatian became the most expensive Scottish football import in a decade.

The purchase of the Rapid Vienna predator has proved to the best possible way to spend money it seems you don’t have. The 26-year-old’s goals in the away wins at Aberdeen and Hearts in the last week have taken his tally for the season to nine goals in 15 appearances and 27 in Ibrox colours in all, despite him missing three months with a knee injury last season.

It´s ok to spend money you don´t have as long as you´re winning is the theme.

  20. “If not, then Celtic MUST give notice of registration, as, to continue in the Scottish setup would be to acquiesce in the corruption…….and that would be a step too far for me.”

    registration = resignation, of course.

  21. If oldRangers goes into administration there is an immediate ten point penalty. Nothing else happens of the company manages to continue.

But if the company goes bust, it ceases to be a member of the SPL. It doesn’t exist. So its assets are transferred to newRangers by whatever legal means and that company then applies to take up the vacant place in the SPL.

Now even if it is voted in, how would this work in the middle of a season? I cannot see how the newRangers can simply pick up the results and points obtained by a seperate legal entity, oldRangers, that no longer exists.

  22. Andrew Smith again:

If it were to come to a vote for Rangers’ re-admission, it could mean Celtic’s Riley deciding on the fate of his club’s arch-rivals.

But the reality is that SPL clubs are likely to allow a reconstituted Rangers back into the fold because without them the championship and its television and sponsorship deals would be devalued, with serious financial implications for the member clubs. Like the very bank that allowed the Ibrox club to rack up huge debts across the past decade, in terms of Scottish football, Rangers are simply too big to be allowed to fail.

The bigger they are the more they are allowed to cheat is the theme.

  25. The Honest Cover-up on

The irony is that had Collum done his job properly and sent Naismith off then he would have rested his knee, had it assessed properly and may have avoided what appears to be a serious injury.

The commentators were very critical of Aberdeen fans cheering at the sight of him calling for a stretcher, Clyde describing it as “despicable”. It’s a shame they aren’t as offended at hearing Rangers fans singing songs about killing Catholics.

I always find it odd that the tabloid media hysteria surrounding supporters reacting to such injuries. I could understand the outrage had it been a serious head injury as no one should take pleasure from seeing a fellow human being hurt in that way.

Naismith may face several months out injured, but essentially what has happened is a millionaire tried to stamp an opponent’s ankle and in the process twisted his knee. Many here have described it as karma but the tabloids would brand such people as “sickos”.

I really hope the review panel do punish him as a point of principal. It was a vicous challenge and he deservers to have his reputation sullied for being the diver and hacker that he is. Not doing so would be akin to not prosecuting a burglar as they fell and grazed their elbow on running out of the building.

  26. THE MANAGER Has lost the dressing room ,thats a fact,i said a few weeks ago on here that things will get worse , so lennon should do the right thing come monday morning and resign .who do we replace him with ,as i have said on here get roy aitken. john collins, john hughes and davy hay ,

  27. dallasnomore-spot on re the sales pitch Roadshows last season, abusing the fans hopes and goodwill yet again.

  28. Didnt see the tackle but from what I read it was a bad one. Karma indeed, similar to Gasgoines in the FA cup that time. I believe the Ref Red carded him as he was lying on the stretcher.

  29. I’ve got nothing to say about yesterday’s game/performance that I’m sure hasn’t been said by someone on these pages since game finished at about 3PM yesterday.

Im still forming my opinion on what is required to fix the woeful situation we have found ourselves in while the Huns laugh at us both on the field and on the balance sheet they appear to be wriggling away from.

Anyway. If you are still so inclined, and even my appetite for worrying about them wriggling out of paying their dues, have your say on what appears to be their wilful cheating and what is likely to be the SPL’s complicity.

  31. The Battered Bunnet on

    Lurgan, James, thanks.

Thom – Cheers, but let me be quite clear: the company that is Rangers plc will be held to account at law for the many and varied misdemeanors of their Directors and Governors over the past decade. During this time, 2000 to 2010, the total cash spent beyond their means, as represented in the movement of the profit and loss account, was £76.7 Million pounds. In addition to this, through the use of various tax scams in the period, they saved a further £42M plus of costs. On these factors alone, Rangers spent or defrauded on average £11 Million per season more than they could afford, equivalent to the combined total revenue of Hibs and Dundee Utd in the period.

Rangers plc will be helpd to account for this, will be found wanting, and be dissolved.

Thereafter, if a group of football supporters want to start a new team, named The Football Club formerly Known As Rangers, playing at Ibrox or elsewhere, in Blue or any other colour, playing by the rules of the game and managed within the law of the land, and are able to raise the money to do so, that’s OK by me.

Football clubs are started up every week of the year. My boy is involved in one with high ambitions started only 2 years ago. We hope to have SFL membership within 5 years, built on developing the local kids through a formal pathway from Under 6 to Under 21. It’s very exciting.

The investors in Newco Rangers are welcome to go for. With a stadium and other facilities already in place, they have a head start on other such new clubs. What Newco Rangers will not get is a free parachute into the top division of professional football in this country. The Rules of The Game are there to be applied to all participants. Those who support Rangers had jolly well better get used to this novel concept in jig time.
