Managerial talent

Derek Adams propensity to waste time and then complain about time being added on should not obscure the fact that he is a remarkably productive football manager.  Ross County, from Dingwall, population 5,000, are sitting fourth in the SPL and remain in touching distance of a place in Europe.  No need to highlight their Scottish Cup campaign in 2010.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Aberdeen have asked Ross County for permission to speak to him.  On the face of it, Aberdeen should fancy their chances of recruiting Adams but County are confident for a reason.  SPL, and in Owen Coyle’s case First Division, managers have been recruited by well-paying English clubs at levels the likes of Aberdeen cannot compete with.  County chairman, Roy McGregor, is likely to advise Adams to hold off for a more lucrative move south.

When Jimmy Calderwood left Dunfermline for Aberdeen in 2004 chairmen John Yorkston explained his surprise at Calderwood heading north, explaining that he believed one day Calderwood would move to Ibrox.  Aberdeen proved to be a plateau for Calderwood, as it has been for most over the last couple of decades.

If they don’t get Adams chances are they will go back to Motherwell; back-to-back second place finishes are exactly what is needed at Pittodrie right now.

Best of luck to Gordon Strachan on his first competitive game as Scotland manager tonight.

glasstwothirdsfull – more likely someone won the cross bear challenge. I have a tenner on McCoist.

Yeah – I see he’s been spouting off again about trying to jump over an entire division – “for the good of Scottish football”. Maybe he also thinks they should be re-instated into the Scottish Cup?

Maybe when they get to the SPL we should have a new rule that says they can never be relegated. All for the good of Scottish football of course……

A true first – podium first – is to have a post on the last page of the previous article as well as the first post on the new article. That proves you have been participating on the blog and not simply logged on at 12 noon and then F5d until the new article appears. Not that I’m suggesting that happened today – just an observation.

  4. If the rangers do win the 3rd division tomorrow then we should all be big enough to acknowledge the achievement, there’s not many clubs that have managed to win their respective (albeit lower) league in their first year of existence.

May even be a world record.

  5. back in the day…..i said to my tradesman….(not the philvis type…i was an apprentice)…I said…”Wish it wiz Friday”

He replied….”Yir wishin yer life away”

Bada Bing – now that is a bet! Does he play as an attacking midfielder for Wales or in a more withdrawn role?

Joe is sometimes good at arriving late in the box and I can’t see who in the Scotland team is going to track his runs.

Can see a few goals tonight!

Cant understand why the MSM almost to a man are openly promoting without applying any type of questioning the line that they should be double promoted and that we desperately need them back with us as soon as possible – for the good of Scottish football. Its like we’re missing a giant piece of a jigsaw puzzle, are they all onside with the huns? If it comes to pass, personally I’m finished with Scottish football.

    Hello Paul

You seem to be a man with some pull on most matters Celtic related….

As of Sunday, I will be in Roatan for just over a week ….scuba diving with whale sharks (hopefully), surrounded by beautiful bikini -clad women (even more hopefully), and drinking pina coladas (although, willing to sacrafice that if I get the first two)…. but, it looks like I will have limited internet access while I am there

I dont want to miss anything too important while I am away…. so can you use your sway to make sure that nothing major happens until I get back (with us or with the fugglies)?

And, as for the rest of you, I haven’t seen Torontony in a while… which usually means that he is up to no good. So, please keep an eye on him while I am away (a big job, I know).

    Cheers.

    ‘Sandaza suspended’

    As suspected.

Won’t help them with signing new players though if the suspicion is that they’ll use any trick to get them out the door when they don’t perform.

Here’s hoping Tommy doesn’t phone Sally.

  15. We had a great run in Europe for sure, will win the SPL and maybe even a double but in my book I would have no qualms whatsoever if Derek Adams won Manager of the year awards.

Given his limited resources I think he had done an outstanding job.

  18. re the sevco shares dropping – chuckie and his investors have awarded themselves millions of 1p shares and therefore regardless of when they sell they will make a handsome profit. However, being spivs, they will be looking to sell as close to the IPO price as possible. Therefore if the 12 12 18 is voted in (and thereby ending their fast tracking opportunities) watch out for the “for sale” sign over the Sports Direct Arena.

The MSM seem to be working on the premise that having the sevco huns in the SPL will help arrest the collapse in their circulation figures.

I reckon it must be an open secret that without something drastic happening mass redundancies and even closures are on the horizon.

    They reek of desperation.

The country club is my local, though I’m rarely in there. Definately went downhill after the manager. English chap, left to run Clockwork.

Used to frequent the Athena when Frixos ran it. You could sit in the bar and have a furstenberg and a massive plate of mussels.

Jerry Sadowitz used to go there and do some pretty good card tricks. If you bought him a beer!

Was talking to Frixos’ grandson who runs the Athena in Hope st. Food is almost as good as I remember.

Frixos is retired and has an olive grove. He supplies his grandson’s restaurant with olive oil.

Not especially Celtic related although I remember having a pint there before the 1988 cup final.

Remember the abuse I got from the New Regent patrons as I walked past proudly wearing my centenary top.
