Managerial talent

Derek Adams propensity to waste time and then complain about time being added on should not obscure the fact that he is a remarkably productive football manager.  Ross County, from Dingwall, population 5,000, are sitting fourth in the SPL and remain in touching distance of a place in Europe.  No need to highlight their Scottish Cup campaign in 2010.

It is, therefore, no surprise that Aberdeen have asked Ross County for permission to speak to him.  On the face of it, Aberdeen should fancy their chances of recruiting Adams but County are confident for a reason.  SPL, and in Owen Coyle’s case First Division, managers have been recruited by well-paying English clubs at levels the likes of Aberdeen cannot compete with.  County chairman, Roy McGregor, is likely to advise Adams to hold off for a more lucrative move south.

When Jimmy Calderwood left Dunfermline for Aberdeen in 2004 chairmen John Yorkston explained his surprise at Calderwood heading north, explaining that he believed one day Calderwood would move to Ibrox.  Aberdeen proved to be a plateau for Calderwood, as it has been for most over the last couple of decades.

If they don’t get Adams chances are they will go back to Motherwell; back-to-back second place finishes are exactly what is needed at Pittodrie right now.

Best of luck to Gordon Strachan on his first competitive game as Scotland manager tonight.

Re league reconstruction. Does anyone know if the vote is purely to determine the size of the leagues. Then after that they decide who goes into what league? Or does the vote include everything – ie size of leagues AND who goes where?

I’d be a bit worried that the vote goes through to get the new sizes agreed then after that they decide to bump Sevco into the first.

Oh Crazy Chuck will try his hardest to get rid of him to save money. No doubts about that.

But if Sandaza has a good lawyer he’ll tear Green’s plan to ribbons.

    2 week fine maximum imo.

  5. I’ve been for a pint with BlantyreTim on many occasions and can certainly remember some of them. Usually the ones where JC wasn’t there as well. On occasion we’d be in a Hamilton bar drinking Reef from wide necked bottles. What a disaster that was.

Drinking with BT should be on the list of things everyone should do at least once!!

Football IS unusual in one respect-an employee can be fined.

I have no doubt that his union will back him to the hilt-to be fair, they have largely been behind the players since Green took over.

What did Sandaza actually say; he revealed his decision to come to a 4th tier club, money; then he revealed his current salary; then he revealed his escalated salary pa; then he revealed that should someone pay him more he’s off. No big deal and good luck to the goats in pursuing that one.

However the most revealing thing about this affair is that if you are currently losing £250k per week then taking escalated salaries into account means you are goosed!

Gene’s a Bhoys name-You’re probably right, his value in the transfer market will be less than his contract in full.

Yes they can fine him, if found guilty after following due process, which of course they are renowned for following completely… I think the max fine is 2 weeks of his wage? but they can’t stop his salary in the interim.

This one may rumble on, be prepared for the MSM taking up the employers case..

I reckon Sevco5088 (to give them their full name) could probably get away with sacking Sandaza.

See when you download a programme or update or the like, and the download goes into the Download folder, can you then empty that folder?

Don’t underestimate Charles’ ability to cock this up and give Sandaza the oppotunity to come back with constructive dismisal. Thereby suing for his full contract and leaving now, oh how we laughed…….

  19. The School of Oriental and African Studies has an excellent guide to the Data Protection Act 1998 and this page points to matters arising when it’s a request for information made by a law enforcement agent.

The applicable clause that is likely being applied when the club hands over information is:

“Failure to provide the data would prejudice the prevention or detection of crime, the apprehension or prosecution of offenders, or the assessment or collection of any tax or duty (Data Protection Act section 29(3)).”

The SOAS go on to state:

“Before we release data to a law enforcement agency, we need to ensure that the information is being provided to a genuine and properly authorised investigation. If we are not satisfied that there are valid grounds for releasing the information, the Data Protection Act does not oblige us to do so: the exemptions in the Act are permissive. However, if we refuse to release the information, law enforcement agencies may obtain a court order requiring us to provide it.”

Which I suspect would also happen if the club refused.

I’m not fully confident that the club are making the appropriate checks and balances though. If they are I see little that can be done to prevent the Police getting the information they want.

And if I were Sandaza,I would be speaking to a damned fine lawyer, discussing a few details of events during his time at the club, and preparing a suit for constructive dismissal.

  21. Swansea

Sacking him may well be their route, arguably they have a case, señor Sandaza may well take a legal route to appeal that given he was duped, stands to reason if an international business mogul like sir David Murray can be duped by a bug eyed penniless chancer from Motherwell…..

  22. Paul67

Must admit. I have become somewhat disalussioned with the lack of comment on how our club and its Supporters Organisation (at least 2 of the major ones) have been found to have been involved in secret discussions targeting a section of our support, as well as the now public admittance of the club to the handing over of names and address’s of supporters to police and the possiblr use of civil proceedings by the club to ban supporters from our stadium.

I for one 100% support the efforts and congratulate our board on their financial success’s this last few years, although I still feel they did drop their priorities somewhat on the field to achieve this. But I am not prepared to back a PLC that goes against the grain and ethos of our club, targeting its own supporters, the life blood of our club, the real Celtic, while the collide with the police, attempt to sway opinion of supporters groups etc…

I believe CQN has foremost been at the front providing the checks and balances with regards how our club is run financial over the years. Now it is time for CQN to stand up and provide those same checks and balances with regards how our club treats and deals with its supporters also and were appropriate question and criticise the club were it has been proven or admitting to moral wrongdoing.

  23. Chuck is a gurrier, he will take a chance on sacking Sandaza, if Sandaza gets another Club soon, Chuck might get away with it. At worse he will make a settlement, like he did with some Football Debts and save himself a couple of hundred thousand on a dud that was contracted for another couple of years on increasing wages. Anyone still think it was “funny” or “brilliant”, personally I’m furious. Obviously I’m clinging to the hope that Chuck tries it and it backfires on him. The real battle for supremacy is all about money, they are on the ropes, Shares down to 74.5 this morning, very soon those who punted up will be in negative equity. Anything that denies them money or increases their costs is manna for us, the reverse is bloody annoying particularly this one which was instigated by one of our own.
