Managers are keen to use record transfer players

678

Football is all about the creation and utilisation of space.  The first thing Leigh Griffiths did to create the goal last night was leave space in the box for him to exploit.  If Leigh occupied the traditional centre forward position, there would have been no space for him to leave his marker and the goal would not have happened.  This is a striking example of football intelligence.

Until that moment, Celtic were disarmingly impotent.  Too often this season we have been dependent on opponents making a defensive mistake, and, if like St Mirren they don’t, we look laboured.

It was difficult to assess Filip Benkovic against St Mirren on Friday, he was never pressed and was skinned once, but you could see what all the fuss was about last night.  The Croat looks the real deal: fast, good in the air and comfortable on the ball.  He will take more responsibility in the weeks to come.

Celtic improved when Brendan Rodgers abandoned his initial plan on 57 mins, replacing Tom Rogic and Forrest with Scott Sinclair and Mikey Johnston.  Almost immediately, Callum McGregor burst into newly available space (my word of the day) in the box.  From then on Rosenborg were under pressure.  The entire stadium knew the game was there to be won, we just needed our chief goal-scorer on the field.

When managers break transfer records for a player they are keen to play him, but leaving Odsonne alone inside the box isn’t working.  We have options for Rugby Park on Sunday, but our treble goes on the line at the League Cup quarter-final at McDiarmid on Wednesday.  We need to be ready for it.

I’m nine days from the Great Scottish Run half marathon, which I’m totally unprepared for.  The ‘Why did I say I’d do this?’ thought has occurred, but you know why.  If you and I cannot do our best for the Celtic FC Foundation, we are missing a whole lot of what it means to be Celtic.

The Foundation means we can connect right back to that hall in Calton in November 1887, when Bro Walfrid said, “Let’s form a football team to help feed the poor.”  This is where we came from and, if you and I have any say in the matter, it remains a central part of where we are going.

If you can help sponsor me for the Foundation, please do so here.

For those going to our game tomorrow , Killie have requested both sets of supporters tomorrow in the 51st minute have a round of applause in honour of Tommy’s memory.

Tommy was loved as much by the Killie fans as he was by us.

Last night’s documentary was such an emotional watch . His family’s courage to appear and talk so openly about how much they loved and missed their dad, was so heart warming. When his older daughter talked about his grandchildren talking about their granda but never knew him, I had a lump in my throat.

David17 – the SFA is not the SPFL.

Lawwell resigned from the SFA main board having spent a couple of years in there looking under the bonnet.

As I’ve said previously the SPFL will be the body that drives change in Scottish football.

Some people we don’t like will keep their jobs – that’s the price of doing business.

That said – Lawwell’s influence has seen Robertson (Sevco), Gray (Sevco supporter at Hamilton) and Budge (Sevco sympathiser at Hearts) removed from the SPFL board.

    Hail hail

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed this spooky spooky feature of the Apollo 13 article.

If you open the picture you will see that coming up from the earth is a huge star-built Crucifix.

It is likely that this was emanating from Hampden Park and by following its guiding path, the astronauts returned safely to earth.

If anyone hasn’t managed to open it…here’s my cut-out of the picture….

Chas and Dave, not my cup of char. That’s for sure.

But as you’ve pointed out, they were extremely talented and in demand session players.

  10. Just watched the Tommy Burns programme. What a lovely man and fantastic Celtic man.

Met TB on a few occasions and echo how great a guy he was.

How lucky are we we have to have Tommy as a Celtic man.

    What’s your point,bigbhoy?

That his budget is pish? That his judgement is pish? That his backing from your superhero isn’t what it should be?

£7m in his first season and £30m in his second is pish, and frankly not good enough?

Go on,son. Avoid the snide and hit him where it hurts.

Have had a few texts tonight from fellow Celtic fans all saying they just watched the TB programme and to a man all had a wee tear in their eyes

Delaney’s , an announcement about the applause will hopefully be made before the game and at half time.

Before the Hearts game on the third of November, the annual foodbank collection by the Green Brigade is taking place. I know its a bit early to announce this but it is a very important off the pitch occasion for our support to participate in.

  16. I think we are all part of an extradimensional equivalent of an x-box game and are merely bits and bytes in a big computerised video game.

Every move we make, thought we have, emotion we feel is controlled by two pished up 13 billion year old pre-puberty wallies who have nothing better to do than sit in their loft equivalent and write programs, twiddle knobs and stuff their fat faces with Milky Ways and Galaxies while having a big laugh twiddling their knobs, and giving us the illusion of existence, the fallacy of free will and the figment of intelligence.

The moon and everything else only exists in the same way that space invaders thought they existed as well.

I have sussed all this out by listening to the mysterious rhythm of what we foolishly call tinnitus and how it interacts with the MBR from the Big Bang which was really just when the two sociopaths switched the machine on.

    The message is quite clear.

    Trust me….wait….I think I’ve got their attention….ZAAAAAAAPPPPP!

    Ha ha….Missed!

    Hail Hail.

Anyone who has undergone X rays will have noticed operators are protected with lead aprons and a separate room.I have been in the Smithsonian in DC and the space suits resemble baking foil,so it does not add up,plus with the enormous improvements in technology, why no return.

This was indirectly leaked via the film in 1979 Capricorn 1, look it up.

Gerry, when we won the league at Tannadice in 1981, Tommy got our winner and a terrific goal at that.

Good to hear from you again, old bean. Wasn’t at that game, but I saw TB scoring with his right foot once! Pretty sure it was also v The Arabs

One of my worst as a Celtic fan was v them,83. Battered them, but 2-2 as we are walking round from The Jungle

Not great, but we just need to win at Ibrox, title won.

    Then a Ralph Milne piledriver,heyho…

God,the number of titles we threw away back then. Spooky, and much as I love history there are too many times we’ve lived it again and again.

  22. Has anyone here attended a game when Danny McGrain scored. I have. Not many goals but still my favourite ever Celtic player

Gerry , he is out at the Celtic pubs around the Gallowgate tonight then going to the Brazen Heac so he told me .

Bobby, the game you were talking about at Tannadice when Tommy scored with his right foot , was in 1982 . He scored both our goals that night , both great finishes.

The Celtic Star site is running articles about the 1981/82 season and are a real good read especially the one about the Maestro’s league debut at Pittodrie .

    Definitely Dziekanowski now

  24. Hope everyone enjoys the game tomorrow. I have family stuff to do so will be relying on text updates. The Hertz result today should allow us an additional wee reason to perform.

I spoke to a friend of TB today and he explained how good the BBC Alba documentary was, I explained that I was not brave enough to watch it yet. That’s the sort of big shitebag I am, I will watch on Wednesday before the St Johnstone game, when I will be on my own in Manchester.

I need to give it proper respect. Anyway, good luck to all our Celtic family tomorrow. HH
