Managers are keen to use record transfer players

678

Football is all about the creation and utilisation of space.  The first thing Leigh Griffiths did to create the goal last night was leave space in the box for him to exploit.  If Leigh occupied the traditional centre forward position, there would have been no space for him to leave his marker and the goal would not have happened.  This is a striking example of football intelligence.

Until that moment, Celtic were disarmingly impotent.  Too often this season we have been dependent on opponents making a defensive mistake, and, if like St Mirren they don’t, we look laboured.

It was difficult to assess Filip Benkovic against St Mirren on Friday, he was never pressed and was skinned once, but you could see what all the fuss was about last night.  The Croat looks the real deal: fast, good in the air and comfortable on the ball.  He will take more responsibility in the weeks to come.

Celtic improved when Brendan Rodgers abandoned his initial plan on 57 mins, replacing Tom Rogic and Forrest with Scott Sinclair and Mikey Johnston.  Almost immediately, Callum McGregor burst into newly available space (my word of the day) in the box.  From then on Rosenborg were under pressure.  The entire stadium knew the game was there to be won, we just needed our chief goal-scorer on the field.

When managers break transfer records for a player they are keen to play him, but leaving Odsonne alone inside the box isn’t working.  We have options for Rugby Park on Sunday, but our treble goes on the line at the League Cup quarter-final at McDiarmid on Wednesday.  We need to be ready for it.

I’m nine days from the Great Scottish Run half marathon, which I’m totally unprepared for.  The ‘Why did I say I’d do this?’ thought has occurred, but you know why.  If you and I cannot do our best for the Celtic FC Foundation, we are missing a whole lot of what it means to be Celtic.

The Foundation means we can connect right back to that hall in Calton in November 1887, when Bro Walfrid said, “Let’s form a football team to help feed the poor.”  This is where we came from and, if you and I have any say in the matter, it remains a central part of where we are going.

If you can help sponsor me for the Foundation, please do so here.

  1. I’m not sure where I heard it, possibly radio Clyde, they were saying that the reason Leigh doesn’t get an automatic start is that he doesn’t train like they want him to and he is overweight, fake news or real news, you decide, I would start him if he is fit, Odsone is not a lone striker, he is better running at them, pulling defenders away to allow the striker space.

  2. FATHER JACK @ 10-18 ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT LHO DID NOT SHOOT JFK, BUT HAVING SEEN SOME DOCUMENTARIIES ON THE SHOOTING, ESPECIALLY ON THE SHOOTING OF THE POLICEMAN AT OAKCLIFFE ,AND THE WITNESSES THEREOFF, IM NOT SO SURE, ONE OF THE BIG MYSTERIES OF OUR TIME.HH.

    Scotland ???

The older I get the more Scottish I am, when I was a teenager I had no time for the Scotland team I remember the maestro getting dogs abuse from the end that was covered …. but, the older I get Scotland is dragging me back eff the SFA and big ebt Eck bitbi eant the team to do well, I want Craig Gordon to replace the thug with a glove and I want Jack Hendry, Callum, Jamesy, KT and Leigh to get to a major final, although I am delighted Broony has hung his international boots up, some don’t appreciate how good a footballer our captain is so keep him for Celtic :-)

    No need to shout.

I don’t know who or what to believe these days, we are told that Scottish referees are honest and are not bias in any way, yer man Graham Spiers has admitted live on tv and radio that in the past they were bias, I wonder why nobody has thought to ask him when they stopped being bias, what to believe eh.

  6. I will post tomorrow about how Tommy gave me a row about a charity game I organised…..what a man, a True Celt to the core

    I love Scotland too.

    Warts and all .

The religious divide has cursed the place .

And not all of the fault lies with the ” other side. ”

I`ll always support a Scotland team , football , rugby, you name it.

Wee reservation .I cant support bigoted organisations .

No so concerned about Clubs with bigoted supporters.

    We all have them.

Looking forward to reading your stort about Tommy B, if you are in contact with Weet Weet Weet let him know o was asking how he is

  9. BP- The JFK thing is a strange passion I have, Mafia, CIA,a lone shooter? Why was the underground car park where Jack Ruby was shot,so well lit ?like a move set for me.JFK was open to giving black people equal rights, and possibly too liberal for too many, his private life could have compromised him too.

  10. With regards to where we are at the moment , there is no doubt we have made re quality than any other team in the league . It is up to BR to select the best men for the job on the day , at present we have automatic choices who really don’t deserve to be . We have quality sitting on the bench

Awaiting a chance to show what they can do , it’s time they got that chance , But for some reason it seems Brendan has a soft spot for some players , players who are presently not delivering ,

The “religious divide” is exaggerated on the interweb don’t get me wrong a lot of the population are still stuck in the 1690s but it’s not as bad as some make it out…. in fact it’s usually a better laugh at the back of the bus :-)

The Sevs I know and grew up with have lost their sense of entitlement even when they go for a “walk”’ we know and they even know by the way our football authorities give them every advantage but these days that can’t even influence things :-)

    Good Times CSC

  12. Gerryfaethebrig…….10.04 Christies has new ownership……always remember when the nuns in Coatbridge stood outside Asda collecting for the needy…..Mr Christie put them out of his bakery one day and told them never to return. think he was the pioneer of the “do you need a bag” system…..not to my liking…….anyways one day I went into his shop and gave the assistant a tall order……..neatly packed and ready to put the goods into the bag I was quoted the price……once the pies and cakes were in the bag the price had changed to 3 pence in his favour……I queried this and he wouldn’t budge ….so I told him where to stick the pies……..he robbed many a few fae the brig did Mr Christie.

    Delighted to hear that .

Just give me a level playing field with equal opportunity for all .

Not really a big ask .

  14. JIMTIM,

I think Brendan has bonded the team so very tight he is finding it difficult to put one or two on the sidelines for a game or two.

Perhaps the Olivier red card will be a very good thing for Celtic.

Everyone needs to be ready to get that place in the Celtic first team and hold it down.

Christie’s used to be at the Fountain never knew the family who owned it but many of my mates mothers worked in it…. it’s now up nearer St Patrick’s chapel … am sure the we bun you type of at Asda was before Christie’s shop moved, although I can’t totally believe your version

When I was a pup we had Christie’s, Lightbodys but Dalzeils was the Airdrie bams :-)

  18. Topkat

  19. Gerry 11:30,

I was really hoping for a better World/Scotland. It won’t happen unfortunately.

If they win a League they will go Berserk all over Scotland and get away with so much.

Broonie despite doing Everything he possibly can, is starting to slow right down, he is being asked to go to the well far too much.

I know the jibber jabber about playing but he is no different from any other Leo Sayer.

    Energy Rush

  20. Gerry,

  21. Macjay 11.36pm

I have been a civil servant since around June 1988, I worked in Morristown Street dhss 12/7/1988 when SuoerMo (I loved MoJo the player) didn’t fill out his P86 and McMurdi informed him coming back from Nantes within a year he was responsible for his own tax… in stepped Dodgy Dave the first and laid his tax bill… probably last time Didgy Dave paid his majesty … anyhow Macjay, I digress, every government office I have worked in since that era DHSS, HMRC and now DWP far more Celtic fans than Sevs…. Scotland is magic and sometimes Negannon goes on about racism / sectarianism … Celtic aren’t responsible or can fix this so Neg keep Celtic out of society’s problems we have enough of our own on a fitba Park

  22. Graham Spiers full of praise for his heroes says the pendulum is slightly swinging back towards his sevco……….must be trying to erse lick his way back to bigot dome…..few weeks back he didn’t know the “person” who was behind the ticket reductions for celtic v them games and couldn’t under stand the logic as all fans like to follow their team to the opposition grounds. who is kidding who ??

  23. Gerryfaethebrig Gerry do you remember on the dalzeils bags, it said a good roll does satisfy, with a drawing of a horse rolling on its side.hh.

Regarding wee Leigh’s barnet i’ve noticed while scrutenizing every

Celtic goal i can on CTV that he detests anybody touching his head.

    Wasn’t my bag (thankfully)

  27. I’ve not watched it yet but the BBC 4 Documentary about how Dance Music conquered the World looks to be right up ma Street.

I remember having a discussion with 16 Roads about Dr.Ugs and he nailed it when he said that E had brought communities together. I was arguing against Dr.Ugs.
