Mancini’s disrespect for Celtic and Rodgers

318

Roberto Mancini must have watched plenty of Celtic while planning for the teams Europa League meeting, but there was little to concern the Italian.  So much so, he picked an attack-minded team for the Celtic Park leg, and arranged a four-day stay over in Italy before the team headed to St Petersburg.

For a side that looked to be in desperate need for time on the training field, spending more days at airports and in hotels does not look like wise planning.  When heading to the dressing room on Thursday night, the last thing anyone in the Zenit party must have wanted was more time on the road, after their trips to Dubai and Turkey.  This team needed to get home to find their game face.

It is clear that Zenit failed to show Celtic or Brendan Rodgers sufficient respect in thinking they could win the tie in Glasgow.  They are a powerful side, so the outcome remains open, but the question Mancini will most struggle with, is ‘Where did that Celtic performance come from?’  He has no idea what to expect from Celtic in St Petersburg, nor do his players.

There’s been a bit of chat online about the risk, or otherwise, to Celtic fans in St Petersburg this week.  Celtic’s Supporter Liaison Officer, John Paul Taylor, has been in touch with SLOs from Liverpool, Rosenburg and Benfica, each of whom faced Zenit recently.  Their advice is:

“All Clubs recommend that fans use the buses which will depart from pick up point close to the Petrovsky stadium (see map attached) they stated that this is the safest way to get to the Stadium.  Fans are asked to be at the pick up point at 18:30 and Police will lead the buses in a convoy at 19:00.

“Fans who travel with Celtic Travel should use their own buses and all other fans should use the municipal buses, there will be a few of us on hand to provide assistance if required.  At Full Time, fans who are on the Celtic Charter must return to their own bus as these will head straight to the airport.  I’ve asked that the municipal buses take fans back to the Petro Palace Hotel but it looks like they will only take fans back to the original pick up point, if this changes I’ll update it on my twitter @CelticFCSLO

“The other advice given was that fans should not wear colours if going into town at night, all three Clubs stressed this quite strongly and also advised fans to stay in larger groups, their advice was not to walk around town in small numbers.

“As far as we are aware, taxis are the best way to get around, the Metro is available however Liverpool fans encountered some issues when using the Metro again though this was when it was fans in small groups.”

  1. Neganon In all my research into the moon landing it was after Capricorn One that I find the first evidence of it (there may be earlier ones that i have missed) The main reason for the fake landings came from the fact that NASA helped with the technical info on the movie… which means that someone in NASA was obviously telling the world the moon landings were faked.

I don’t trust anyone in power but I always look as to why some one would do something.

  2. Ye’s’ll awe be tellin’ me that Harry Potter is a made up character and orcs don’t actually exist!

    Watever next?

  3. Some forecasts have the temperature at -15, feeling like -20. I can’t imagine an extra 5 degrees makes much difference in that cold.

  4. Bagwash was getting excited at the prospect of Celtic playing in front of 51k with only 1k Celtic fans, new pitch no less and cold, I thought he was Tommy Cooper the way his hands were moving , I thought they had a bit of their stadium closed for banners?

  5. NavanBhoy: Have you been in touch with anyone at the AICSC re Mick? If not, I’m sure they’d be only more than happy to help out whatever way they can.

  6. Good evening all.

Wee quick techie question. Recently had to restore my laptop to factory settings. Just went on to Celtic Ticket site there and unable to bring up the usual ‘count the dots’ seating plan – message says “Sorry, this device is not compatible with the Interactive Seating Map.”

Any idea what I need to download / install?

I often get the impression when watching Bagwash on tv that someone has his hand up his a*s*.

  8. Just watched the crowd scenes before the Chelsea V Barcelona game. The difference between the normal looking Chelsea fans ( whose main song is `One Man went to Mow `) and the hate filled majority who go to Ibrox is there for all to see. Time we got rid of our loathing of Chelsea just because Der Hun like them.

  12. As for weather forecast, temperature. I know some say it might be -15C, but:

When there is no wind and it’s dry, -15C might be nicer than 0 C, wind and wet.

They are going to shut the roof. With the heating under the pitch the player may feel it +5 or more. Weather won’t make any negative difference to Celtic players.

Establishment response to a complex discussion. You are pandering to the mainstream media in quoting Right Wing conspiracy theories. Think about it.

If I get you correctly all conspiracy theories ( or the ones we have discussed) are right wing plots for gullible ” nutters” but your conspiracy theory is real.

“I would wager you know about operation Northwoods. If so , 9/ 11 conspiracy theories are totally vindicated in both science and motive.”

A cuban era document, rejected by Kennedy, is, somehow, proof that 9/11 conspiracy theories are totally vindicated- How?? By what logical link?

I might just as well assert that the Gunpowder Plot proves that Rossevelt was in league with the Japs to bring the USA into WW2

BTW Dozens of Conspiracies have been exposed rather than conspiracy theories proven.

And that’s one of the hard questions that thw open minded sceptic has to ask himself. Why, if such top level actual conspiracies, such as Watergate, get exposed, do we not hear of anyone breaking ranks from within the Moon Landing Programme, the 9/11 architects, builders and firemen etc; etc; As yorkbhoy and others have pointed out, there is a reluctance to engage with the alternative viewpoint and the inconvenient facts.

Now, the only conspiracy I am going to have further time for this week is the conspiracy by Brendan and the Bhoys to manage a successful haul from Russia.

  17. So it’s the 2000’s and the head of the American space programe admits that they can’t send a man to the moon and be sure of bringing him back with total certainty, yet some want us to believe they sent a man to the moon in 1969 in a cramped spaceship, where the computer would have to had been at least twice or thrice the size of the wee spaceship owing to the computers they had at their disposal in 1969, aye and I thot it was the huns who were supposed to believe the establishment pish.

  18. Read some earlier posts by the superb TONTINE TIM and a few others re reserved occupations during the second world war.

My Irish Dad worked for the Post Office Telephones when the war broke out which was a reserved occupation.

He volunteered as did his three brothers.

  20. The moon landing were 50 odd years ago. Why cant they do it now I wonder?

Apparently NASA has “lost” the technical info !?!?

9/11 was an inside job . The official version just doesn’t stand up to any scrutiny.

It was a false flag that has been used to set off the never-ending wars.

Saddams weapons of mass destruction ………….conspiracy theory ? Our governments dont lie…..hahaha

Regardless of the connection with the Huns Chelsea have got a lot of horrible fans, and have had as long as I’ve been watching football. The friendly at Stamford bridge around ten years ago was like a trip back to the eighties.

I too have my doubts about the “moon landings” almost 50 years ago.

Tontine Tim and PCS: I was at both games mentioned earlier against Der Hun.

The first is probably why I still think CPT is the best player we ever had

*My da, who was at Brockville for the corner kick game and also hampden in the sun, worshipped the ground he played on.

When I was a really wee bhoy I ran upstairs to tell my mother and father that one of my pals uncle was in the polis (his da was fae Cork tae so it might have been the garda). My mother’s uncle was also a sergeant up the toon and could be seen walking round the track at Parkheid, however my da’s response was “away doon and tell him son that your uncle’s Charlie Tully”, he wisnae BTW lol.
