Marching Newco into the Sea one insolvency at a time

835

‘Starve your club of money until I get what I want’ is just about the measure of Glib and Shameless’ statement yesterday.  No one at the SFA, SPFL, the Glasgow City Council, the Co-op/Vatican Bank or Celtic could do as much damage to the Fledgling Rangers as Dave King’s pronouncement.

These people have taken so many wrong turns in this episode it is like they are being operated by a compulsive Karmic puppeteer.  There is a time for withholding ticket sales, Celtic fans did it 20 years ago next month, but Celtic fans had a plan, grassroots support, investors on hand, unencumbered by Fit and Proper concerns, or the law against directors of a liquidated business working in a company using the same or similar name.

Most importantly the Celtic ‘old board’ included some, like Kevin Kelly, who was committed to change, while even the hold-outs were died-in-the-wool Celtic men, if clearly misguided.  None of the decision makers would ever consider razing the stadium.

Fledgling Rangers are at the mercy of hedge funds, some spivs and a couple of ‘Rangers’ men, who must be increasingly frustrated at the attempts of others to usurp what they legitimately bought and paid for.

Before stepping off the ledge – and make no mistake, stopping fans from buying season tickets is the only way to kill not just a club, but any successor clubs – you need to be sure you are in a position to cut a deal, and that you have the cash to make it all possible.  If you don’t have a watertight plan, you are working towards the end of your football club and its dilapidated remains.

I would be utterly amazed if the Easdales or Laxey Partners submit to this Glib and Shameless series of demands.  If they do, I have seriously misread them.

King was on the oldco board when they walked slowly to the gallows, all for the want of the kind of money he now says is needed to make Newco competitive with Celtic.  His chance to bang the populist drum and raise some cash was in the years before the club, stadium, stock and bike were sold for a combined total of £1.

It makes you wonder if there is a plan to march the entire club, and all its symbolism, into the sea, before picking up the driftwood after another liquidation.  For a fan of the club that would be horrendous, but think of the rich pickings available to whoever can grab the assets.

This is high stakes poker, but those forcing the issue don’t have any skin in the game.  Even if the whole thing is washed away in the storms, they will avoid most of the blame.

Delighted to read Fergus McCann on the club site this morning:

“I am very proud when I see Celtic’s progress, its status in Scotland, and its worldwide reputation. Especially when I see the great work of Celtic FC Foundation carrying on the legacy of Brother Walfrid.”

Despite the perspective that the events of 2012 gave us I still meet people who just don’t get what he did for Celtic.  No football fan is under any obligation to worry about their club’s finances but the man at the top is, and when our top man wore a bunnet, our transformation was outstanding.

There is a little over two weeks to go before the CQteN St Patrick’s Night Dinner on Friday, 14 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park.  The beneficiary of  the night will be Kholoni Primary School, Malawi, where we will fund Mary’s Meals to build a kitchen for 1200 kids who currently don’t have meal facilities.

We have received some incredible assistance already (more on what happened in Germany and Belgium when I get the next stage of the development ready), but you can get involved by ordering a personalised beanie hat, with your name on one side and CQN on the other.

Hats cost £15 each and if you order before 7 March you can collect yours at the CQteN Dinner.  If you’re not attending the dinner (and why not?) the £15 will cover postage and packaging.  If you ordered a Virtual Ticket, you’re personalised hat is part of your package.  All profits go to the school kitchen.

Take a look at the front and back of the hats.  To order, email hatfrompat@celticquicknews.co.uk with name, whether you are attending CQteN and address if not, and I’ll get your message to Pat.

As a support, we are weak, weaker than we have ever been IMO, and that bothers me big time, we are in a position to make serious changes, and I see no progress on that front, I ask myself why would that be, and I would hope all Celtic fans are asking the same quetion.

Hi, do you contribute to TSFM web-site?

I ask because I don’t contribute anything there. I came to here from the RTC blog after it ceased. I’m interested in the post above but confused from reading it how the posters there are supposed to frame their response in a meaningful fashion.

Is my thinking correct? A letter with supporting appendices has been sent to the relevant authorities and TSFM intend to inform those authorities about the response from their readers to the letter without the appendices.

Excuse me if you only reposted out of general interest and aren’t one of the inner circle at TSFM.

TET, I view the opinions and feelings I see on CQN , KDS and other sites as being a small percentage of the Celtic support. I know lots of Celtic fans who don’t read any site’s and are reliant on the BBC, ITV Sky and the record for their information, duff or otherwise. On the way to Barcelona the guy I was sat beside on the flight was salivating over the cheating bastard club gaining entry to our league. I hope in the space of the three hour flight I helped change his mind, he was utterly clueless and I think that is the way of the majority.

If a reincarnation of the govan zombies do appear in our league and I still retain my SB I will not attend those home games, nor will I farm my seat out. I will not attend a game versus the cheats. In the mean time, the club will need to do a lot of convincing before they get my SB money next season, and the ones thereafter.

I hope to be attending paradise for a long long time.

  27. ACGR and TET –

I have asked this question a couple of times before but never got an answer. I’ll go for third time lucky.

You both (and a few others on CQN) seem to be saying that if Sevco make their way into the Premiership, you are finished with football or will not renew season books, or variations of the theme.

When Newco applied to go straight into the SPL, they were bombed out. When they subsequently tried to sneak into the old First Division, they were similarly sent packing and were dumped into Division 3 as is befitting a new club.

Oh how we laughed and there was much rejoicing in Timdom.

Now, here is what I do not understand.

When Newco were banished to Division 3, they were never at any time told they would not be allowed back into the top flight. Predictably they gained promotion at the first time of asking and are now clearly on the verge of gaining promotion to the Championship. So next season they will obviously be chasing entry to the Premiership. Whether they achieve that goal is a matter of conjecture but leaving that aside, they have the opportunity, as things currently stand.

So what is it exactly that you want Celtic to do to stop that happening? As I say, we all, and that includes Celtic FC, enjoyed the spectacle of them being told to sling their hook when they tried to worm their slimy way straight into the top flight. When they started off in Division 3, nobody demanded that they never be allowed into the top flight in future, as long as they do it within the rules and through promotion, so why are some Celtic supporters now baulking at the prospect of them eventually making it to the Premiership?

Believe me I hope they die and disappear altogether, but unless and until that happens, can someone please explain to me what it is you are scared of? Why do you now want the rules changed just to keep Sevco out of the Premiership if they earn it through promotion?

Again, what do you expect Celtic and Peter Lawwell to do? Do you want them to go to the SFA and say we don’t want them in the top flight? And when the SFA ask for their reasons? What will those reaons be?

In short, what are you guys scared of?

  28. skyisalandfill c'mon wee Oscar on

    Gold coast Tom

Can’t speak for anyone other than myself, but froim my perspective at least, when Sevco were admitted into Division 3 (not in my opinion befitting a new club, who should have been asked to apply along with Spartans and all the other well run junior clubs accross the country), I had an niaive expectation that a number of things would happen in the coming months

    Title stripping

    A clearout at the SFA

EBTs and dual contracts recognised as what they really were

The new club being recognised as just that.

    Crroks being banged to rights

As we all now know, none of this has (yet) happened and I will be thouroghly disgusted if the tribute act turn up in the same division as us with almost zero debt, unpunished, undiminnished in their own eyes and that of the MSM, crowing about 54 titles or whatever they think they have acheived and with the same ‘protection racket’ provided by MIBs and the two surname brigade.
