Marginal advantages eventually come a cropper

458

One story which caught my eye last week was that we have 33 players out on international duty over this break, from a pool of 51 employed professionals (and that includes Derk Boerrigter). 13 Celtic players will join Scotland youth teams, with a further 6 going to other countries.

We know we can’t compete as we once did in the transfer market, so getting and developing the best youth talent has become an important part of the strategy.

All of this groundwork is for the long-term, though. Getting three points each Saturday and preparing for the challenges ahead is another question.

There was a moment on Saturday when Aberdeen manager, Derek McInnes, could have turned to his assistant and said, “If Killie hold on for another two minutes, the league is in our own hands”. That’s how close things got. Tom Rogic’s immaculate strike punctured that notion, before McInnes’ team’s second half collapse at Fir Park.

Now Aberdeen need us to drop seven points more than them, or eight if you consider goal difference. It’s not going to happen.  Aberdeen didn’t just slip up on Saturday due to a couple of defensive lapses, this result has been in the post for months.  They clawed their way into contention by gaining a series of marginal advantages – they haven’t won a game by more than a single goal since before Christmas – 14 games ago!

This season they have been ‘everyone’s favourite second team’ who have only just got over the line for three months of the season.  This is a statistical anomaly.  A more regular distribution of chances created and converted would have seen them win several of those games comfortably, but winning far fewer games.  Their dopplegangers in England, Leicester City, are benefiting from a similar phenomenon.  Both teams’ form could drop off a cliff next season, but the chances of either improving win ratios, if not performances, are slight.

Leicester are favourites to win in England because the behemoths, whose spending-power dwarfs most others, have been unable to dig deep to find a dirty win often enough.  Like Celtic’s on Saturday.  That, as we will soon declare, is why we’re champions!

At the recent ct drive I encountered loads of folk who were relatively open minded to change and definitely saw the need .. discussed many current issue amicably and almost all signed up for the ct

Most were pretty oblivious to much that’s going on at celtic … which surprised me as I think i know most stuff and expected others to also

The exceptions to the above were generally older bhoys …. ” I just come to watch the fitba son ”

Apart from smiling at being called son at 54 years old .. I thought ” these old guys live in a different and better world than me ”

God bless every celtic supporter … even the ones who don’t believe in him ;)

We definitely have 3 home games post split. As the league currently stands these games would be v Aberdeen, Motherwell and a third home game v Hearts

We have to play equal amount of home / away ties .

Given we will have played hearts only once at TyneCastle I expect a visit there and the sheep at celtic park first or second game after the split.

  7. Re- Res 12

Many people are saying fans outside of CQN have no idea of what’s going on, at the same time stating that this concerns and needs the support from all the clubs fans.

A pamphlet distribution has been suggested at match day, if so could copies be sent to all football supporters clubs. Even better if an add in a Red Top could be done and accepted.

I copied this from Bournesouprecipe (I hope he does not mind), with an equally concise introduction and where to find further details, this is easily understood and straight to the point.

Article 66 of UEFA’s licencing means,at 30th June 2011,a club should not have an unpaid tax bill.

Rangers were issued a tax bill on 20th May 2011 for £2.8million with regard to The ‘small’ Tax Case.

They had 30 days to appeal this.

    They didn’t appeal.

    They didn’t pay.

Therefore, they had an unpaid tax bill

The SFA allowed them to keep the licence.

Res 12 is aimed at the SFA conduct

The SFA are refusing to answer Res 12 guys.Instead wrote an insulting letter.

Res 12 fans are for going to UEFA but think it should be Celtic to do so.

Celtic, apparently, agree it should go to UEFA but via the fans, not them.

    —————————————————————————

Maybe the Res 12 team have something else planned, but I thought this would get through to the average fan

IN JUNE 2011 THE SFA AWARDED RANGERS A UEFA LICENCE

AT THAT TIME RANGERS HAD AN UNPAID TAX BILL OF £2.8 MILLION

UEFA RULES BAR CLUBS WHO HAVE UNPAID TAX BILLS FROM PLAYING IN UEFA COMPETITIONS

DESPITE THIS,THE SFA ALLOWED RANGERS TO KEEP THE LICENCE

A GROUP OF CELTIC FANS/SHAREHOLDERS RAISED THIS ISSUE AT THE 2013 CELTIC AGM (RESOLUTION 12)

SINCE THEN THE GROUP HAVE ASKED THE SFA TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED

THEY HAVE REFUSED TO ANSWER US

IT WILL NOW BE TAKEN TO UEFA

CELTIC FC AGREE THAT IT SHOULD GO TO UEFA

WE BELIEVE IT WOULD BE BEST IF THE APPROACH TO UEFA WAS TAKEN UP BY THE CLUB RATHER THAN THE FANS

THE SFA MUST BE MADE TO ANSWER WHY A UEFA LICENCE WAS ALLOWED TO BE RETAINED BY RANGERS WHEN THERE IS EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AND THE BOARD OF CELTIC ARE THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO TAKE THIS UP WITH UEFA

  12. Regarding the Res 12 issues, bear with me on this one as I only THINK I’m a shareholder.

I’d never considered (or been financially able to) buying shares until last year. In the run up to the AGM there was a suggestion that to buy shares you should follow a link on a particular website (possibly Celtic Trust?). Anyway, this directed me to a firm, Hargreaves Lansdowne, with whom I deposited £50-odd quid and then used them to acquires ordingary shares in Celtic plc.

Although I don’t physically have share certificates I believe that I AM a shareholder. I’m happy to complete and post the mandate unless anyone thinks that I’m not caught by this proposal?

I have to say that the Res 12 boys probably lost the battle before it started by coining the phrase Resolution 12.

Not exactly a sexy or attention grabbing name and always unlikely to convey the key issues in a couple of words. Did none of them study politics?

No one coined the phrase Res 12 — the resolution put before the 2013 AGM was simply Resolution No 12.

Re earlier posts – we have to be very VERY careful here.

    PLEASE NOTE:

The 2011 European licence was granted as at 31st March 2011.

Note that to comply with CFCB licensing regulations there had to be an OVERDUE and UNPAID tax bill.

To have an unpaid bill did not constitute a breach as the bill has to be OVERDUE and UNPAID in terms of the rules.

All posts about this topic should clearly state that for fear of people being misled in any way.

I’m sure he did his own research and didn’t just read Paul’s article……

  22. I think Ronny has told the players not to tackle unless it is absolutely necessary or you’re 200% sure, hence some of our players have a huge part of their game taken away.

Celtic had 4 fouls and 3 bookings on Saturday. Killie were 11 for 1.

We almost always have the highest ratio for this in the league.

    I think you are correct.

Tackling is being removed from the game, save as a last ditch measure.

It is not tolerated in Europe, unless the player stays on his feet…..and it is certainly not tolerated in Scotland, if the player is wearing green and white.

Closing down and interception is the preferred modern option for regaining possession.

Until we replace our slower moving, work dodging players, we are going to be a bit hit and miss.

We should be more accomplished next season.

Hopefully come this Summer, there will be changes at Celtic Football Club if it’s managerial fine, but the biggest challenge is s complete new Celtic Board real supporters men who are going to talk for everyone be it fans, players, manager, etc, especially as to put the Media in there place, and there Anti Celtic reporters to That lousy paper the Record never has a good word to say about our club 2 things written by them to. day,Fauber the Killie player saying he wasn’t impressed with Celtic, he doesn’t know our club, the reporter putting words into his mouth and that other piece of nonsense the Hotline saying supporters being embarrassed with Ronnys antics after Rogic scored a cracking goal, what supporters is the Daily Hun talking about, in my view its not Celtic Fans, but I blame this present board for a lot of this they should have stopped them in there tracks a long time ago, it seems they are not frightened of printing and saying what like about our club,so that’s why I won’t to see big changes at our club next season, sorry for going on, but I’m really getting to dislike the media in this country,

Interesting to discover, courtesy of the latest Private Eye that one of the beneficiaries of the Deutsche Bank tax avoidance scheme, recently struck down by the Supreme Court was no less than Sajid Javid, Tory MP and Secretary of State for Business. Others on here have commented on the similarities with another case, in terms of the timescale (2004 onwards), the legal arguments made by the appellants, and to some extent the vehicles for the additional payments made. I think the Deutsche Bank case involved shares as an ’emolument’ but even so the Supreme Court found these taxable, and for which; “The employees paid no income tax or national insurance contributions on the sums transferred to them”. I understand that Deutsche Bank have since paid HMRC on the shortfall, £120 million or so. Every little helps!
