While Maribor were clearly second best at home to Celtic last week they remain a potent threat to our season. You can be sure they’ve watched every minute of every game Celtic have played this season and will have dissected each defensive lapse. Our acknowledged weaknesses – primarily a defence which has yet to find cohesion – will be well-known to each of them.
The vast acreage of Celtic Park should suit the mobile, pressing, game Ronny Deila has brought to our play. It will be difficult for Maribor to cover all defensive zones, so with Celtic certain to play without a target-man, I expect the visitors to concede territory on the wings, defend their penalty area and force Celtic to play through them.
We will inevitably leave space at the back, in particular down the wings. How attentive we deal with this risk could determine the outcome of the tie.
Maribor’s schedule since facing Celtic on Wednesday suggests their biggest challenge will be to maintain energy levels late in the game. Thursday will have been a rest day, only light training would have taken place Friday and the bulk of the first team had a league game on Saturday evening. Yesterday would be another rest day, and they will travel today before a light job on Celtic Park this evening.
By contrast, the bulk of those who will start for Celtic tomorrow will have had normal preparatory training Friday, Saturday, Sunday, with some light work tomorrow. Those who made substitute appearances on Saturday will not have made a significant debit on energy levels.
We need to keep the ball moving early on, curtail rest times and have Maribor accessing their reserve tanks as early as possible.

‘Glycerol is used to produce nitroglycerin, which is an essential ingredient of various explosives such as dynamite, gelignite, and propellants like cordite.’
Here’s hoping for an explosive performance tomorrow night!

No problem. You might want to call ahead and book a table with some of those restaurants if you decide on one of them, especially the ones in the city centre, they can be quite busy.
You can get to the airport pretty easily by taxi from the city centre late at night. Would cost about £15-£20 or so.

Beatbhoy –
While in Australia I bought all 5 series of Breaking Bad on dvd. The 5th dvd just said 5th and final series. No mention of a second part to the series. So I went for weeks actually believing the drama had ended with Hank on the toilet and the penny dropping.
It was only while talking to my son on the phone from Edinburgh that I discovered there was a series 5 part 2.
I went to the store and was told it wasn’t being released in Oz for another 3 weeks, so I had to wait.
But yes, you are correct. Series 5 part 1 does not say part 1 and nowhere does it reference a second part and in fact labels it as the final series. Very misleading, especially to a dummy like me :-)
TBB, it sure is.

is it possible to have a late meal and then go to the airport or is better to just go to the Ramada immediately?

Extra. Time? Penalties? Celebrating ? Very late meal, perhaps.
Just saying, like.

Rome? There’s the Trinity College Bar at the bottom end of Via del Corso, about 5 minutes walk from Trevi.
It’s on (appropriately for TV spectators…) Via Specchi.
Check their website/phone to make sure they’re showing it though.
Failing which, Roma CSC meets at Finnegans about 10 minutes away in the Cavani area.
Is it not Genco Oil?

Good stuff – I went to my first match in 1970 (a Glasgow derby – remember them?) and get to a few games each year since but my wife hates football and sort of expected to be treated, shops, meals , hotel etc. Booked Ramada as the only flight back was at 7:00 am. and she ain’t best pleased. I am now trying to make sure I cover all angles.

Game on TV3 in Ireland tomorrow.

scullybhoy ,
I’ve done the Ramada option before – you’ll have plenty of time to eat in town and get a taxi back. Take WDH’s advice re food but ignore the rest ~(this time) beacuse …
WDH , he’s got a flight at 7am the next morning . Getting from Dakota to Airport in time for that means he’ll be as well no sleeping.
On the transport option , you could always take the 900 service out to the airport – allow your wife to see some of the more , esoteric , glesga characters – one way to guarantee that she’ll let you come on your own next time.
Re shopping , buchanan st , suachiehall st , merchant city , argyle st – in fact , scrub the above – glasgow city centre should be sufficient.

Mind and book your meal beforehand it is to be a late supper (probably best to avoid any “colours” too – there are some strange peepul in the toon).
Good luck.

Bawsman, having spoken to those who do the tests at Lennoxtown, glycerol levels return to 100% if a player has one game per week but never reaches that if he has two games per week. In short, if you want a player to to operate with 100% energy levels, he needs more than three or four days to recover from 90 minutes play.
This is a well-documented phenomenon. Getting players fit but not tired involves controlled training and rest.
——
Brilliant. Love it Paul.
So now if they’re challenged when put on the lash just before a game our likely lads comeback line is,
C’mon mate…..a wiz just oot for a few pints of yon glycerol stuff. Just topping up, no?

What a load of self serving / reverse engineered nonsense you are spouting regarding the resting of players fit tomorrows game.
We are so rusty it hurts.
The defence is 4 individuals wearing the same strip.
The whole shape of the team — mid to front especially — is a work in progress.
We have a set of forwards who all have L plates regarding RD’s style of play.
And you come up with glycerol levels.
“Away oot an’ play tig wi’ the buses” my good man.
The whole team needs game time.
The whole team needs confidence.
Maribor will be able to small the fear and trepidation when they land.
Finally — what happens if we get through to the CL group stages?
Will it be another 6 games for the stiffs as we rest the A team for the CL games?
RD has got it wrong.
We now are ones under pressure.
They are not a good team.
However the way we are playing things I fear they will not have to be.

Hoopy birthday!

Guys
The Vince Gilligan new series story sits completely unconfirmed as of yet – try googling it.
This has cropped up on Fb and people are running with it.

You must’ve been sittin’ there thinking (c) Charlie Nicholas, that there were a few loose ends still to be tied up then!
Still, you must have been pleased at the thought of having 8 more episodes still to watch.
And I’m sure the ‘real’ ending didn’t leave you disappointed.
