Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round. Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray. Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.
Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England. They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

Ironically I think this decision puts added pressure on a board that should already be creaking.
They have got until the transfer dealine next Weds to get some real quality into this team.
If £5M is a guaranteed minimum we will get, then this plus £2-4 Million addition funds should be made available to RD immediately.
Our hard won reputation is hanging by a shoogly nail, and another embarrassment will not be tolerated by the support.
Our board members are renumerated well, It’s time to earn it.

Nobody makes £22m out of participation in the CL. You might be given that amount but a fair proportion of it goes to the players in bonuses for achieving that aim. The Legia Match Secretary will need his cut too.

Indeed. At one time I wanted him having watched him for Slovakia. Thought he would be good for us but was hardly there for them in the end.

We have been gambling and succeeding mostly in terms of reaching Group stage up till now. I want that £22m to come in to the club too but I don’t want it to be spun as £22m profit. I am sure every player and probably PL too will have pre-written guarantees for a share of that to go directly into their pockets.

The point is, how does anyone know that it is a simple administration error and not a cynical ploy, which allowed them their fully quota of 25 players v St.Pats.

Sftb, it’s not sign anybody now. It’s sign experienced leaders. The options I listed – Samaras, Ollic if still free might cost more than 15k in wages but we need short term influence to fix this now. Darren Ferguson is an extreme long shot but with his illness and Van gaal wanting a new captain I think there could be room for a loan move.
Dirk Kuyt may be at the end of his career but still has a great engine and is versatile. He may cost a few hundred thousand but surely a year or two with him in the side or someone similar pays back?
As yet you will notice I am not advocating breaking the bank on transfers just pushing the salary boundary that seems to have been set.

i was not disputing the accuracy of the £22m figure, I thought I had made it clear that I was referring to it as not being £22m profit to the club directly. Our employees will take a chunk out of that before the remainder is left for spending. And, if they get to CL last 16 (no sniggering) then much more of that will go on bonuses. We will lose a chunk of it for every point earned.
