Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round. Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray. Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.
Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England. They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

Someone already posted.
It’s Monday night. 1 more can be added 24 hours before the first game.

Am I alone in not wanting any new signing we make to be played in this first qualifying tie coming? We have a history of becoming unbalanced by disrupting team continuity in the qualifiers by throwing in guys who are unfamiliar with our play.
Mind you it looked like 12 of the 14 we fielded this week fitted that description.

I did not know that Carlos Valderama was his asst.manager.

Legia v Aktobe
Legia Warsaw v fc Aktobe !!
Good draw eh ;)

It would be useful to have back up in and ready and on the bench (and registered properly) so as by the second leg we have more options.
Just thinking perfect player for a CL play off
A player that suits left flank of a fast paced 4-3-3 formation
Sammy it’s time to come home ….

Bless you …..!!!!
Just back from a night oot wi the social club and shocked to hear we are in the CL qualifier. Happy for Celtic though we didn’t deserve it, gutted for Legia Warsaw who should be there. Stupid but def not Huns. I was in Slovenia recently had a look at Maribor town as we passed on our way to Budapest. Nice folk in Slovenia. Can’t believe they can have a better football team than Celtic. Major break here hoops. Get through and sign some quality players and who knows. Crazy. Hail Hail
In fairness they broke the rules, and with 4 minutes remaining we could easily have scored a try and conversion

Cheers LB
Might have some movement over the weekend then although it might make matters worse.Maybe better concentrating on making the squad we have into a team that can compete for the first game.

What do we call ourselves now?
Livibhoy and any others,
Bookies will pay out on celtic to qualify, but not on 3-0,bets paid on 90 minute result
The dog’s about to take me for a walk so I’m away out with a (slight) skip in my step.
setting free the bears for Res. 12 & Oscar Knox but saying no to CQN racists

This tie cannot and will not go ahead.
It just can’t.
Legia will appeal and be rightly reinstated.
They took us to the cleaners.
A guy comes on in error with 88 mins played and leading 6-1, and we are going thru.
I can’t be right. It isn’t right.

No, we unfurl the flag on 16th against utd
I dont think it will make a difference if Celtic sign a couple of players before the first leg with Maribor as they would not have a great deal of time to get to know our players and settle in.I hope this let off does not paper over the cracks that we need to get rid of a fair few players who are not Celtic class and start a complete rebuild wither Rony should be allowed to rebuild the team is up to the board. H.H.

playing a SUSPENDED player is a huge mistake… not a chance of getting the decision overturned
As with God, with UEFA allthings are possible.

One wonders how many dugs will be kicked today?
Legia owe it to their fans to appeal, not to do so would be remiss of them BUT the outcome will remain the same.

It’s a reference to this:
Declan Sanchez
CELTIC has invented a fictional hero to take credit for the three goals it never scored.
The club was awarded a completely made-up 3-0 Champions League qualifying victory over Legia Warsaw after the Polish team accidentally fielded an invincible football robot for two minutes of injury time.
Now the Glasgow club has honoured the achievement by awarding the goals to the fictional attacking midfielder, Declan Sanchez.
A club spokesman said: “Declan is a working class boy from Galway whose grandfather was an Argentinian human rights activist and a close friend of Che Guevara.
“Declan joined Celtic at the age of seven after being spotted by Kenny Dalglish, adopted by Charlie Nicholas and trained by Henrik Larsson. When he is not creating and scoring magnificent goals he writes poetry about imperialist oppression.
“And he has the voice of an angel.”
The manager said in an interview last week that he was trying to get players in and I guess with the news today he will continue with his plan to get players in, wether they will play any part in Maribor is another question, only Maradonna would have made a difference to Celtic’s performance on Wednesday..
Let’s hope these two weeks see some match fitness and squad togetherness for what will become Celtic’s biggest game for quite some time!
The thought of us playing as badly as we did against Legia doesn’t bear thinking about.
