Celtic will face Maribor from Slovenia in the Champions League play-off round. Maribor, of course, played a critical part in the death of Rangers, when they eliminated Ally MsCoist’s team from Europe a few months after Craig Whyte took over from Sir David Murray. Having heard the 6-1 aggregate result against Legia, they are already celebrating the draw.
Maribor gave Wigan two hard games in last season’s Europa League, winning their home tie and causing the FA Cup holders more trouble than expected in England. They progressed to the knock out round before going out 4-3 on aggregate to Sevilla – a feat Celtic would not have been capable of. Right now, they should be slight favourites.

You ask for posters to name players currently playing abroad who would be prepared to sign for Celtic for £5 million and who would make the club better.
I`m sorry that I can`t oblige you – I do not know any overseas based professional footballers well enough to be able to ask them the question – “Would you like to sign for Celtic?”
I hope however that the powers that be at Celtic are currently asking this very question of a goalscoring striker, creative midfielder, left back, central defender and goalkeeper.

I was shattered after the Legia games and was dreading the season ahead. We’ve had the reprieve and , right now, we are even weaker having sold FF. I pray that CG does stay fit and feel sure, without anything tangible to back it up, that the team will perform much better as Ronny settles into the job.

Well, my point is that, while they might have access to more information, that doesn’t necessarily lead to them making good decisions re: signings. I’m happy to let them get on with it, of course, but it won’t stop me (or anyone else) from expressing an opinion. With the possible exception of Craig Gordon (jury’s out) the others have been poor value if the spend noted in the papers is correct (a total of £7m).

NatKnow, I let my membership go last year when my lass finished Uni at Edinburgh but I’ll be renewing next year when the young pretender heads to Herriot Watt. The society is a cracking place and membership is well worth the money. I’ll get the boy associate membership like I did for my girl. She used the Queen St venue for studying, I suspect the bhoy will use it for other less reputable exploits.
Good drams BTW, use a wee bit of water for both as they’ll need them.
