Mariners confirm Rogic deal

963

Tomas Rogic’s club, Central Coast Mariners, formally announced they had agreed terms to transfer the player to Celtic a few hours ago.  The Australian attacking midfielder, who turned 20 last month, will require a work permit before the transfer is concluded, but should be a formality.

After having an extensive look at the player, Neil Lennon will think there is an excellent chance he will be a successful addition to the team, but it’s worth remembering that Victor Wanyama joined at the beginning of last season at the same age as Tomas and took six months before securing a regular starting place in the team.
[calameo code=000390171cc0c3617c8cc lang=en page=80 hidelinks=1 width=100% height=500] I have avoided all YouTube clips of the player (which are notoriously misleading) but by all accounts he is an excellent prospect, however, he will need our support and encouragement as he settles into life in Scotland – especially if he acclimatises to the Scottish game.

  1. I’m not too sure about Rogic. He seems to be terribly one footed and I fear defenders showing him onto his weaker side and frustrating him. Looks good in the videos on lovely sunny days in Australia with 3 weeks allowed on the ball. Fir park, boggin’ surface and 3 nano seconds on the ball might be a different story. Anyway what do I know, I was sure Stuart slater and Cascarino would be stars and Sutton and Lubo would be mingers. Back in the 80s I once said Sneddon had a good game (today)and everyone at the bar bust our laughing…..

Vmhan. I would hope Rogic is the ball playing creative midfielder that the team badly needs. The type of player who can unlock stuffy defences. That is two new young Internationalists at Celtic park happy days.H.H.

  3. I’m generally not in favour of Australians. They’re like a Sainsbury’s Basics version of Kiwis.

As a child Rolf Harris used to torment us with his drawings and his devilish little beard when we really just wanted to see cartoons. He was almost as bad as Glen Michael with his “comedy”.

Also the inexplicably popular Australian soap opera, Neighbours, with its less popular siblings “Home and Away”, “The Sullivans”, and scary lady drama “Prisoner: Cell Block H”, proved that Australians could be boring too. Except for Bouncer. Bouncer was great.

I’ve always been a bit afraid of men dressed as women so Aussie drag acts Dame Edna Everage and Germaine Greer haunted my nightmares.

On the plus side, there was Paul Hogan, who taught a generation of primary school boys what a “knoife” was, and how to calm a bull using the sign of the horns. For a brief moment in 1987, Paul Hogan seemed almost as cool as Indiana Jones or Rick Astley.

However, it’s fair to say I pooh-pooh Australia, its spiders that can kill cows, its kangaroos that will kick you in the genitals and hop off with your belongings, and its toilets that flush the wrong way.

Despite all that, I like this Rogic guy a loater. Let’s give him a big Celtic “G’day”

    (thumbsup)

I think we already have one, the same age as Rogic, but if he plays at all it’s on the wing.

I mean of course our own Dylan.

I’m not saying it is, merely posing a question. However, in order to get enough tickets to make it worthwhile, they’d need a UEFA contact that was getting loads, or perhaps a supporters club.

So as far as I can see this is probably dodgy. The url is registered to somebody in Spain.

79caps. Yes young Dylan is another good youngster but I havnt really seen him play in the centre of midfield for the first team so I will accept that on him being a play maker you will know better than me but we cant have to many good youngsters in my opinion.H.H.

No name /address etc printed on the ticket ?

Do the Police /Stewards check Identity cards etc of the away support at European Games at Celtic Park ?

If you had a ticket for the Juve section you could simply walk up and go through the relevant turnstile ?

  8. Summa of Sammi…. – What happened to the Heid money?

I understand they used it to renovate his statues on Easter Island. (thumbsup)

  9. good luck tom look forward to seeing what you offer in the hoops. better to get in young players with potential than run about trying to sign up established quality players who have little interest.

dont think it is lost on young players such as rogic that celtic is a good place to learn and gives you a platform to demonstrate your abilities at the highest level. bringing on young players will do more to encourage other quality young players to choose celtic before other teams.

it makes us an easy sell: come here and play after your established we’ll sell and both parties win or go to a BIG league team with less chance of establishing yourself or fulfilling your potential? ajax have being doing it for years as has porto etc…, our football environment may not be the best but it can offer us an opportunity to bleed more young players.

p.s. i dont think its lost on sevco that they are going to struggle to make more money next season if they remain in the bottom tier. the change in financial distribution under new set up 12-12-18 means less money for winning coming second in the spl when they eventually get there and there is not assurances that the other clubs will not decide that greater redistribution is needed or is benefiting the game. they want in the spl asap so they can influance decision making, simple as that

  10. Good to see Celtic sign the young Australian.Buy young hungry ambitious players instead of the last big payday merchants.

  11. Summa of Sammi…. – There are 30,000 People who Disagree with KevSydneyJungle..;-))))

Can we now land the young American striker I think Hooper will be away in the summer so he might be the ideal replacement. He is well thought of so could be another good signing.H.H.

  13. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

What I can’t understand is why does sally want to be fast tracked up a division when apparently sevco have no intention of playing in the SPL anyway. It’s all becoming too confusing.

  14. Juan Agudelo looks like he could have that real spark to become a star, he could also be a complete flop but for a reasonable fee it’s worth the gamble.

Plus “There’s only Juan Agu-delo…” has a nice ring to it.

  15. SoT , dunno to be honest . Never tried to get in the visitors section .

Went to Barca in 2008 wearing a kilt and Celtic top and had a ticket for the Barca end – no problem.

Maybe a search and some cursory questions – to which you give a quizical look and shrug your shoulders !

  16. Isnt futsal the game all the brazilians play from a young age before they make the step up. seem to remember ronhaldinio clips from when he was a youngster playing futsol..

  17. I'm Neil Lennon (tamrabam) on

More demand for tickets than we can supply is a good kind of a problem. (Sorry for the folks that didn’t get one.) It just goes to show that lots of Celtic fans are willing to pay more than they pay now as long as they can play against better quality opposition.

That’s one reason that I don’t agree with 14 and 16 teams in the SPL, it will only dilute the quality of opposition further. If we can’t fill our stadium for games against the “wee diddy” teams like St Mirren / Killie I don’t reckon we can sell much more tickets for games against the likes of The jags or Morton.

The solution to empty seats is to play against better quality opposition; The problem is how to do that week in week out.

  18. SoT,

I was in the Juve end at the last (Sutton volley ) CP game. All I needed was my ticket, don’t think entry criteria has changed since then.

    Hail!hail!

  19. tictaewin ~ the bhoy spent a week training and playing with celtic’s first team so i suspect he has shown a good level of ability to encourage our manager, scouts and back room staff to sanction a 500k buy. it may take time for him to settle he may not settle but a 500k we are buying potential, if he was not worth a punt he would not have been signed. we do miss a ball carrying cm.

79caps ~ i like mcgeogh, think he’ll be with us for some time to come and i suspect filip will also be playing more next season. its highly likely mccourt and victor will be leaving this summer so there will be room for both players.

given that murphy is not returning to us, hooper is very likely to leave this summer, miku will def be leaving, mo will go if we can get him of the books and stokes is not assured a new contract. i think we’ll be looking to sign up at least 1 good young striker as well.

I see that HMV are one of the latest round of Administration victims, and many may become jobless

As far as I can see the solution to their problem is very simple:

Offer the creditors around 1p in the pound

Sell all the stock and premises and HMV assets to a new company called “The HMV” for 1 million quid. Charles Green might be able to help because he has allegedly already recently bought some records.

Close down the old deid HMV and don’t pay any creditors at all.

Open the following day with the word “The” written with a felt tip pin in front of the old HMV sign

Tell everyone that they have been punished enough. Tell everyone that the old HMV club never died.

And if anyone out there thinks it cant be done………..

Variety is the spice of life and familiarity breeds contempt. I’d rather see Celtic play Killie twice a season and Thistle twice a season than see us play Killie four times a season.

The SPL is stale and boring because the same fixtures are repeated ad nauseam. Towards the end, even the Glasgow derby had lost a lot of its appeal simply because it came around too frequently to be special. (thumbsup)

    Thanks .

Hearts pal and his Spanish workmate want to go..

It will not be difficult to get a Juve ticket for Celtic Park. The issue is whether you need more than a ticket .
