Mark Lawwell first recommendation to Celtic

338

Ange Postecoglou, by his own words, worked closely with Mark Lawwell during his time at City Football Group’s Yokohama F. Marinos and had a big influence in the appointment of our new Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment.

The tie goes deeper, though.  It was Mark Lawwell, who a year ago, told his closest contact at Celtic about an Australian he knew that was working in Japan and who would be a far better appointment than Eddie Howe.

The then incoming chief exec was understandably cautious about taking this recommendation, preferring to wait for Howe, a known entity.  When that line of pursuit was no longer open, the club took Mark Lawwell’s recommendation.  It was a radical decision and a huge risk, made at a time when two chief execs were in the building, with differing views.

The relationship between manager, head of scouting and chief exec can make or break a club.  They flourish whenever all three are working in sync.  On that basis, I’m encouraged by where we are ahead of the summer transfer window.

Uefa’s news yesterday, that Russian clubs will not participate in European football next season, confirmed that the cinch Scottish Premiership champions will gain automatic entry to the Champions League group stage.  We will talk more about what this means financially to the club at the appropriate time.  What you can be sure of is that a budget spreadsheet at Celtic Park has been updated, the recruitment team has been assembled and there is a clear sense of ambition at the club.

If Mark Lawwell’s player recommendations are half as good as his managerial suggestion, we can look forward to an interesting season.

City apart, the sort of clubs he’s overseen will be looking at exactly the level of players we would look to pick up

  4. The head of recruitment has become one of the most important roles in the club, arguably third behind the Manager and the CEO.

Our transfer activity over the last 2 years has shown how important getting recruitment right is.

Hopefully we have the right team in place now

  5. With guaranteed CL money hopefully coming to continue the rebuild, and Ange and a top team behind him to recruit the sort of players he wants we’re in a great position.

  6. All being well next season’s EPL could have an ex-Celtic contingent of:

Mark Lawell is coming to Celtic after 9 1/2 years at senior roles in recruitment at the best resourced and possibly most professionally run football club in the world. He’s been in extremely important roles, and has been there for an age in football terms. He’s overseen recruitment for teams in England, USA, Australia, Japan and Uruguay. He has experience in every market in the world.

He already has an understanding of how Celtic function, he’ll know the executives, the structures and the strategy

More importantly he knows what Ange wants, he understands the sort of player he needs to play his particular sort of football. He has excellent knowledge of the Japanese market. He’s worked with him long enough already for the not to need to build a trusting relationship. Egos are unlikely to be an issue, a long and fruitful partnership hopefully

None of the above is wishful thinking. Its a very exciting appointment, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t see immediate results.

You trying to upset the PL obsessives?

    Spot on btw.

Christie’s shooting for Bournemouth same as his shooting for Celtic. Talk about shooting for the stars!

  10. Players to join ( incl loan) Celtic, within Mark Lawwell time at Man City

    John Guidetti

    Dedryck Boyata

    Jeremy Frimpong

With exception of Guidetti (alleged attitude issues) & Arzani (unfortunately serious injury on his debut)

    All other were a success

How big a part did Mark Lawwell have on them joining Celtic ??

If he can attract that standard toCeltic, I would hope we can continue to grow, and become a bigger success through competing in Europe

    Give the Bhoy a chance

Can I ask, is there not 2 of Gordon Strachans Bhoys employed at Celtic 🤔

  13. The Villarreal story is something else. A town of 50,000 people. A stadium for 23,000. A perfectly normal history in the lower leagues . . .

Then bought in 1997 by a Spanish billionaire who wanted to see his team in La Liga.

Now regularly feature in Europe, current Europa Cup champions and, tonight, back in the semifinals of the CL.

Do they have any kind of inherent advantage over the likes of us? They play in a league where they are not ever going to be favourites to win it but their regular European exploits have to be admired.

In 2016 and the return of Rangers to top flight scottish football Celtic plc needed to create a diversion from unruly Celtic supporters asking pertinent questions like for example….

    1. Do Celtic plc view Rangers 2016 as being the (same) club as rangers 2012??

    2. Will Celtic supporters boycott season tickets if Celtic plc refuse to address the (same) club issue??

    3. What will happen about RES12, 5WA, Trophy Stripping, and Celtic plc’s exceedingly, slippery, methodology lacking, grasp of these issues??

    4. Would 1, 2, 3, go up in smoke along with any dying out fragments that might remain of Celtic fc’s ethics, integrity, principles, pride, IF, Celtic plc pull a giant diversionary rabbit ( Brendan Rodgers ) out of the hat and reroute the mind sets of the what would be exposed as the evidently, easily mugged, 53k of Celtic season ticket holders in 2016??

Well it must be obvious that number 4 won oot the park.

    It goes like this…..

Since 2004 and Lawwell’s return to Celtic after having been previously dismissed aha, Celtic plc have operated a managerial puppet show, Brendan Rodgers in 2016 being the singular diversionary appointment.

    Strachan 2005 – 2009 master puppet.

Mowbray finished 20th in EPL with WBA PL deemed him suitable 2009 – 2010.

Lennon straight off the training ground 2009 – 2013.

    Ronny 2014 – 2016 = 30k empty seats lol

Brendan 2016 – 2019 = He was recruited to divert Celtic supporters questions about the toxic deep state like operatives who constitute the Celtic executive, the pro-oldfirm, Celtic executive, carried out a school playground level of deceit on Celtic season ticket holders in 2016, 53k played like fiddles by the best fiddlers to be found anywhere in the contemptible, capitalist, globalist, sewer.

The msm where obviously in on the ( scam ) not a single question from any scottish msm about Celtic plc’s views on the ( return ) of Rangers fc in 2016??

The scottish msm are ( supposed ) to observe public service protocols but in Scotland it must be a different set up??

Make that the ENTIRE western msm cabal as we see it today.

    Back to the scottish msm…

Not a single question along the lines of….

“Do Celtic view Rangers as the ( same ) club in 2016, as the Rangers of 2012??”

Surely that question should’ve been asked??

    If not why not??

In the period of 2012 – 2016 all that Celtic supporters spoke about was the ( same ) club lie??

Yet Rangers appear in the top flight of scottish football in 2016 and Celtic supporters downed tools and fell to their knees and worshipped the Celtic plc ( squirrel ) Brendan Rodgers??

    WTF??

Brendan Rodgers the ( squirrel/property tycoon ) right at home with Celtic’s Irish Tory plc board of ruthless sharks.

    Its a clique alright.

But a clique that demonstrated how easy it is to make Celtic supporters STOP caring about, ETHIC’S, INTEGRITY, PRINCIPLE’S, that’s if Celtic supporters really cared about these crucial cornerstones of life at all??

Or have Celtic plc shown us that in REALITY Celtic supporters are FAKES.

THEY STAND FOR NOTHING AND FALL FOR EVERYTHING.

Brendan Rodgers achieved 7 successive trophies and left a legacy of a balance sheet of £170+ million which was ( rumoured ) to be just £43 million the next season??

I said it was a rumour, BUT BUT BUT BUT, it was a rumour that still hasn’t been clarified, nor dismissed, to this day??

    A £130+ million ( discrepancy ) surely didn’t occur?? Did it??

A poster called “THE LION’S ROAR” asked questions about this ( discrepancy ) on another so called Celtic supporters blog not far from here, but TLR was not put straight with counter facts that would crush his (discrepancy) theory his posts were merely deleted by folk who just could not DISPROVE this story and where woefully out of their depth, even “KEVJUNGLE” who used to post on here as well back in the day used to post questions on that other so called blog about this very subject that I’m trying to convey on here though I’m obviously not as good at it as he was, BUT BUT BUT BUT, his question, oldfirm ticket prices retained in 2016 agreed to by Celtic plc, and 6 years later THESE questions that Celtic supporters on blogs would rather NOT answer because if they do answer it, and answer it honestly, then Celtic supporters would have to come clean and ADMIT that they were mugged, that the plc did keep oldfirm ticket prices retained to 2012 prices, in 2016, at £49:00, and YES there was a £130+ million (discrepancy) with the balance sheet AFTER Brendan Rodgers left us.

I WONDER WHERE £130+ MILLION WOULD JUST DISAPPEAR TO??

If there’s NO honesty left to answer these 2 questions then Celtic supporters are sucking up a cover up!

    Where’s the missing £130+ million??

Did Phil Mac ask about “KEVJUNGLE’S” theory about the plc retaining the oldfirm ticket price of £49:00 when Rangers returned in 2016??

    If not why not??

Did Phil Mac have anything to say about “THE LIONS ROAR” and his disappearing £130+ million (discrepancy) theory that was deleted from a cowardly blog??

    If not why not??

Why did Celtic plc agree to retain old firm prices on tickets in 2016 when Rangers returned??

And why did Celtic supporters MOVE ON from all of the corruption in 2016 which was all deliberately camouflaged by Brendan Rodgers arrival??

An administrator on another blog told “KEVJUNGLE” to “MOVE ON from all the posts about plc corruption and talk about the team.” lol

The administrators partner, from the other so called Celtic blog, took the cowards way out as well and simply deleted any posts from “THE LION’S ROAR” or “KEVJUNGLE” effectively burning the books, that’s what those on the losing side of the argument do because truth is just too big for certain folks.

    So 2012 – 2016….

Four4 years of gnashing and wailing about, ETHIC’S, INTEGRITY, PRINCIPLE’S, SAME CLUB LIE, RES12, 5WA, TROPHY STRIPPING, CELTIC PLC COLLUSION, MAHE said – “MOVE ON.” LOL!!!

    Move on to where??

The latest theatrics from the Lawwell family??

    Aye right ye are!

The plc played the fiddle and 53k took to the streets samba dancing as they celebrated the arrival of the new messiah, Brendan Rodgers.

YOU WERE ALL PLAYED….and your still being played to this very day.

Oldfirm tickets are now £53 I think – MORE THAN THE CL tickets…..and you just go along with it, then you start to sob when OTHER’S wipe their feet on you??

2016 and the sly, sleekit, Celtic plc, didny say the words, “RANGERS or OLD FIRM, so 53k thought that by not saying KEY words (THE MISSING SYMBOLS OF THE OLDFIRM £53) lol and the recruitment of Brendan Rodgers, how could Celtic plc NOT be on the same page as the 53k?? lol

How could it be possible to betray, mug, play like fiddles, 53k good, honest, faithful, law abiding citizens, who simply follow the team that they, their parents, their grandparents, their great, great, great, grandparents, had supported since 1888 when it all began, how, why, could some group of shadowy figures, who swim with the slimiest, cut throat, sharks on this ‘plane’ that we all live on, how could they do such a BAD TURN to these 53k decent human beings??

Well I’m talking about a group of executives who don’t deal in or trade with EMOTION’S, emotion’s create vulnerability, and, weaknesses, that executive sharks will not deploy, but will RUTHLESSLY EXPLOIT.

The mugging of 53k Celtic supporters in 2016 was blatant, if you know what to look for.

Why no off the script questions since Gerald McNee retired??

    Why not??

Look at the state of the place since Gerald McNee’s retirement LOOK AT IT!!!

Everywhere you look CORRUPTION is looking back at you. LOOK AT IT!!!

Why did Celtic plc enjoy the compliance of scottish msm in 2016, on the return of Rangers fc to topflight football, and not a single one of these groups, scottish msm, CSA, CST, GB, NONE OF THEM, asked Celtic plc if they viewed Rangers fc 2016, as being the (same) as Rangers fc 2012??

Even the great Phil Mac didn’t see fit to ask why Celtic plc agreed to keep the ticket price for oldfirm games the very (same) price in 2016 as it was in 2012 – £49:00 not a single question that would’ve UNMASKED the Celtic plc agreement to COVER UP the Rangers fc (same) club issue??

    hallelujah!!!

yet in less than 3 years these same worshippers would twist their steely knives into the messiah, Brendan Rodgers back, spitting on the very ground that Brendan walked on.

    They never knew him.

They don’t know very much by the looks of it.

STUCK IN A £49:00 MOMENT – THE MOMENT THAT CELTIC FC DIED.
