Ange Postecoglou, by his own words, worked closely with Mark Lawwell during his time at City Football Group’s Yokohama F. Marinos and had a big influence in the appointment of our new Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment.
The tie goes deeper, though. It was Mark Lawwell, who a year ago, told his closest contact at Celtic about an Australian he knew that was working in Japan and who would be a far better appointment than Eddie Howe.
The then incoming chief exec was understandably cautious about taking this recommendation, preferring to wait for Howe, a known entity. When that line of pursuit was no longer open, the club took Mark Lawwell’s recommendation. It was a radical decision and a huge risk, made at a time when two chief execs were in the building, with differing views.
The relationship between manager, head of scouting and chief exec can make or break a club. They flourish whenever all three are working in sync. On that basis, I’m encouraged by where we are ahead of the summer transfer window.
Uefa’s news yesterday, that Russian clubs will not participate in European football next season, confirmed that the cinch Scottish Premiership champions will gain automatic entry to the Champions League group stage. We will talk more about what this means financially to the club at the appropriate time. What you can be sure of is that a budget spreadsheet at Celtic Park has been updated, the recruitment team has been assembled and there is a clear sense of ambition at the club.
If Mark Lawwell’s player recommendations are half as good as his managerial suggestion, we can look forward to an interesting season.

I think it was Emery’s struggle to master English that finished him at Arsenal. It certainly wasn’t coaching ability.
INIQUITOUSIV
It was never a penalty.
Liverpool rattled.
AN TEARMANN
It looked like Allison cleaned Lo Celso out long before he touched the ball. I’m watching with Mexican commentary so haven’t followed the conversation re VAR.
Thistle go ahead of Thistle.
Villarreal are targeting Andy Robertson as the weaklink.
cmon the jags
Bournemouth promoted as it stands. 8 minutes ET to go.
First day on for a wee while and it was going so well…………………..
C’MON THE VILLARREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SAINT STIVS
“Brilliant goal by Villareal.
it was, but we would be raging with all the defending”

Looked back at it. You are right. What was Alexander-Arnold thinking?
Does that mean Thistle are winning and losing?
ConfusedCSC
Inverness take 2-1 lead over Partick into home leg.
Bournemouth promoted.
If Villarreal win the CL what does that do (if anything) to our direct entry to the group stages if/when we win the league.
Not sure but think the Russian ban works in our favour.
Definitely don’t want ICT promoted. I’d prefer St Johnstone to win the play-off and stay put.
TIMHORTON
Even if Villareal win the CL, Celtic go straight into group stages.
MOD ??

Villarreal hanging on now. Alex Arnold hits bar with deflected shot. I think Klopp will bring on Jota, probably for Diaz.
Liverpool dominant, score 2-1.
Through the keeper’s legs!
I thought it was too good to last.
Thanks Tom.
Thought their keeper was dodgy last game, just confirmed.
Submarine goalie looks real dodgy.
Konate just misses.
2-2.
Villarreal deciding to play like a Sunday Pub team this half.Cannot put 2 passes together.Horrendous goalkeeping.
Through the keeper’s legs again?
INIQUITOUSIV on 3RD MAY 2022
Thanks,listening on radio here,it went 2-0 villareal
Alas Liverpool have just made it 2-2
HH
Villarreal players look defeated.
Alexander-Arnold has been open all game with acres of space to run into.
The scouser’s DM, Fabinho, was ridiculously open when he scored.
Liverpool 10 goal attempts to 4.
Villarreal have collapsed 2-3 now. Keeper horrendous.
What team holds a high line 10 yards inside the opponents half and leaves Mane all alone on the halfway line? Utter suicide.
Liverpool could score a few more here.
Keeper has sold 3 goals he is garbage
