ANGE POSTECOGLOU celebrated Spurs’ 1-0 Europa League Final triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao last night and insisted he was “a serial winner.”

The former Celtic boss, who guided the Hoops to five honours in two years, has been under fire for most of the season with the London club finishing just above the bottom three in the Premier League.

However, Postecoglou completed his second year at the strugglers with a European trophy following Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal.

Speculation over his future at Spurs continues and the Greek-Australian gaffer admitted there were no talks scheduled with the club, but said Europa League success proved his winning credentials to chairman Daniel Levy.

EURO STAR…thumb’s up from Ange Postecoglou after his latest silverware success.

The popular ex-Celtic manager said: “I understand why it would be difficult for a club like this to buy into one person’s vision.

“I remember even when I signed, the club and even Daniel said: ‘We went after winners, it didn’t work and now we’ve got Ange.’

“But, mate, I’m a winner.

“I have been a serial winner my whole career. It’s what I have done more than anything else.”

Postecoglou, speaking to TNT Sports, continued: “Obviously, the way things have gone in the league, people are right to be concerned about, but I don’t think that’s a true reflection of where we are at.

“We’ve got a really young group of players and you can talk to them about success and what it means, but until they feel it, it doesn’t become real.

“I’ve got no doubt that all those boys – having this feeling – will want it again. To get it again they’re going to have to make similar sacrifices.

“They’ve climbed the mountain now. They know what it takes to get to where we are. I think that does, it accelerates the opportunities to build a team who can be successful and play at a high standard for years to come.

CONGRATULATIONS, ANGE…classy Instagram message from Celtic.

“I still feel there’s a lot of work to be done. I think that’s quite obvious, but not as much work as people may think.

“People can bang on about 20 league defeats and where we are, but they’re missing the point of what we’re trying to build, or what I’m trying to do.”

As his players and fans celebrated the club’s first silverware success since 2008, a victory that propels the side straight into the Champions League, the one-time Australia international chief added: “I don’t feel like I’ve completed the job.

“We’re building. The moment I accepted the role I had one thing in my head – win something.

“We’ve done that now and I want to build on it.”

Postecoglou took over Celtic in the summer of 2021 after the team had suffered their first trophyless season in11 years.

He steered the team to a League Cup success over Hibs before the turn of the year before sealing the tenth title in 11 years.

The 59-year-old gaffer completed a domestic clean sweep in his second term before being lured to the London club.
