Material weight on Celtic

201

The postponement of last night’s game at Pittodrie means Celtic will have at least four games more than Hearts before the post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures being in April.  If they reach the Scottish Cup semi-final, it will be six more.  If Celtic progress through another two round of the Europa League, that figure would grow to 10 more games before the split.  That is a material difference.

Newco are out of Europe and therefore have two fewer games on their roster, with a cup game against lower-league opponents, whereas Celtic face Dundee in the cup on Saturday.  The next 10 weeks will exhaust the players physically and mentally; Martin O’Neill will need all his experience and his entire squad to keep momentum rolling.

Winning this league would be a huge achievement, one of the biggest this century and an ominous sign to others.

  1. With all the loanees coming in and, hopefuly, a few injury returnees, our squad should be big enough to cope.

Plus, I don’t see us getting past Stuttgart but I could be wrong.

And then, old Rangers made an excuse of fixture pile up in 2007/8 and we sneered at them.

Agree with most of that Scottish cup doesn’t bother me if we don’t win it, as we can’t do a treble, I know “entitled”, but EL I’d like us to go as far as we can, it’s a great confidence booster for fans and players alike, and players don’t feel anywhere near tired when winning, por cierto.

  3. AJ, still injured, Callum Osmand likewise, and Jonny Kenny on loan to Bolton were all part of our UEFA EL squad, can we now replace them with three, or more, of our new signings?

  4. While Martin can no doubt assess player quality, he ain’t a sports scientist or doctor. Chamberlain hasn’t played a competitive game since last May.

I think it’s fanciful to think that he’ll be making a telling contribution to our season in the weeks ahead.

  5. glendalystonsils on

The pitch as a whole wasn’t unplayable last night , the problem just seemed to be in one goalmouth. Do the sheep not have any groundstaff? What measures did they take to protect that area of the pitch to ensure the game went ahead? You would almost think it suited the sheep to have the game postponed . It certainly didn’t suit us with our packed fixture list .

  6. An Dun – I had a look at Chamberlain’s injury record. If you go back 6 seasons or so, he averages around 90 days or so a season injured missing around 140 games. He’s had several ligament injuries including a cruciate ligament tear, several knee injuries and hamstring injuries.

I think there is obviously a good reason as to why he has not been with a club this season.

He may be strong and fit for training purposes but looks like he would be doing well to play for a few weeks without getting injured.

Auldheid …”could” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in your scenario

    ===

Not if I have anything to do with it.

Ive already set out how to go about dismantling sinister false narratives.

Got agreement as a shareholder using a facility Celtic set up in 2022 AGM following a chat with then Comp Sec on the mechanics of sending Res12 legal expenses to the Foundation , to persuade Celtic that the purpose of Celtic set out in AGM papers 2025 is not fit for purpose and will be revised.

I have to use “I” only because unlike many who follow false narratives I get off my arse to get a more accurate narrative out.

Apart from cynical criticsm what to do you and others do that gets results, that unites the support?

The supppsed objective of The Collective.

  8. Don’t get caught up on whether the tav challenge is a foul or not. The cheating is the fact VAR didn’t even look at it. With Celtic they check every nook and cranny to punish us or to disallow goals.

It’s the perfect scenario to send to cheating Collum. Oh and this time the ball was going straight to goal and he was in control and no back up defenders. It was much more worthy of a red.

CCV does not seem to be listed. If I remember he got injured in a UEFA match, a victim of the sub rule, so it may be we already replaced him, with someone.

    bada bing

Dont see Welsh either, though he may have been on the original list.

Think somebody posted that today was the deadline for UEFA squads so hopefully we will know the new list tomorrow, Stuttgart is two weeks from now, so a bit of time there.

  10. You could replace a long term injured player[over 30days injury] up to matchday 6 in the group phase only

  11. I am sure he will be on pay when you play deal.Arteta was on the brink, and he sees him every day.Fantastic experience, know how.Game fitness,a couple of weeks. If ,if it works,a big signing for us.Nothing to lose.

Martin is no mug.Neither would Joe Hart sling a hooky deal our away.

    Que Sera.

Celtic have directly approached the SPFL after the late call-off to query whether the SPFL Pitch Inspection Protocol was properly followed.

While the Parkhead club have accepted the decision to postpone the match, they condemned the timing of the postponement as “extremely regrettable,” issuing an apology to their supporters.

A club statement read: “It is extremely regrettable that last night’s match against Aberdeen was postponed, particularly at such a late stage.

“While we understand the decision, clearly, we sympathise with our supporters, many of whom had begun making their journeys or had arrived in Aberdeen already.

“We have raised the matter with the SPFL, to understand whether the SPFL Pitch Inspection Protocol was followed correctly.

“In our view, there must be the ability to make earlier decisions on matches.

“We are very sorry that our fans have been inconvenienced in this way and thank you sincerely for your support.”

  13. DENIABHOY on 5TH FEBRUARY 2026 3:23 PM

Yeah, he’s likely to contribute little but we’ll see.

As you say, he could be a great influence in training although I’d be concerned with the number of players we now have in our squad with no long term commitment to Celtic.

6 loanees with at least 4 contracted players in Yang, Engels, Maeda and Hatate who’ll all be out the door come the summer.

  14. So 12pm (CET) today for new UEFA registrations for eligible players. AJ & Saracci were on our original list, with the latter closer to being fit. Add three players, out of five signed, hopefully Tomas & Julien plus one of this weeks signings will give us a half decent squad for the Stuttgart matches.

  15. The one area of concern for me is the CBs.

An injury to Scales or Trusty and we’re left with Donovan or the Brentford lad with a couple of starts to his name in the professional game.

Any hun leaning refs will be well aware of this so Trusty and Scales need to be careful picking up cards.

Was scrolling through last nights comments and came across one of your brain fart comments.

Now I know you will now scream abuse however when you call complete strangers parasites you really can’t complain when someone fires back at you can you?

Got a couple of questions for you – what is the difference between the so called parasite blogs and this one? Is it just that they hold a different view to yours?

You describe them as just clickbait – have you looked at the ads on this site?? They are all sites which generate income – some with paywalls and less ads and some like CQN which is free but smothered in ads. No idea what you do or did but if strangers on a public forum called you a parasite and slammed your work and industry i’m reasonably sure you’d be pissed off and rightly so.

Secondly I just can’t let you continue to talk shite about BR. I am far from a superfan but your repetitive nonsense is simply trying to re-write history is nauseating and full of just plain lies. You’re like the blue hordes that continue the relegated or same club lie with such regularity that it almost becomes fact to all except us.

    Your words

    We appointed the wrong manager

WRONG HOW? 2/2 LEAGUES, 2/4 CUPS, BEST EURO PERFORMANCE FOR DECADES? WHAT WOULD YOU GIVE FOR THAT RECORD TODAY I WONDER?

    and gave him full control

CONTROL OF WHAT TRANSFERS? SO WAS TISDALE A FIGMENT OF ALL OUR IMAGINATION? DID BR SIGN SHIN, INAMURA, SIMPSON-PUSSEY, KWON, HOLM, TILIO, LAGERB. NOW REGARDLESS HOW GOOD OR BAD THE POINT THE POINT IS YOU SAY HE HAD FULL CONTROL WHEN THAT IS CLEARLY UNTRUE SO PLEASE STOP SAYING IT

and he totally ruined a really strong base to the point of failing to qualify against a team with 10% of our player value. His narrative of blaming the board for lack of support is sadly down to his own self interest. I would wager any of us could have navigated that tie and got us through. IT IS AND WAS SO OBVIOUS THAT THE SQUAD NEEDED TURNED AND WE DIDN’T DO IT. BR HAD AMBITION BUT THE BOARD DIDN’T OR COULDN’T OR WERN’T ALLOWED

Sadly the largest share holder and his manager are equally to blame for this past years efforts. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY POOR RESULT AND PERFORMANCE AND THERE IS BLAME ON ALL SIDES.

I know you really hate BR and you are motivated to keep going after him but keep it real and don’t try the hunnish trick of repeating the lie until it becomes fact.

  17. I see the Celtic Fans Collective has had to rush out a follow up statement (bit like Starmer down in Hastings today after his disaster yesterday) with a Q&A within which the CFC appears to have supplied both the questions and the answers to its’ own questions. Bit like marking your own homework and giving yourself a gold star. Could do better…..

As “an active, lifted over by his da’(83 years ago) supporter I support the Not a Penny More boycott as originally announced, ie., no Celtic merchandise or extra revenues to be purchased including cup and EL games at Celtic Park.

Will I be at the final if Celtic get there? I will be in the city as it’s an away game watching the Bhoys in the big screen as I have done in almost all Europe games away without a ticket or even prospects of one with the exception of Barcelona and Valencia and Leverkusen.

I will not/have not boycotted any league games.

Have a nice day big man.

  19. Celtic Mac on 5th February 2026 4:22 pm

I see the Celtic Fans Collective …….

    —————————

I listened to the ACSOM bulletin from yesterday which included PEDRO-K, a collective committee member representing Kerrydale Street (KDS).

He is the guy who stood on the stairs and gave a passionate speech in the celtic car-park before the previous Aberdeen game.

With JPD and John Hughes I thought PEDRO spoke well, with only one stumbling block, he was at pains to express that supporters who choose not to boycott have to be respected, and everyone has the right to support celtic how they see fit.

I have my doubts though that , a call to blockade the directors from entering the stadium can be done with civil disobedience but no violence, I think the more volatile of the protesters will indeed cross a line,

Me personally, I want to go to the game. We are a 100 million pounds away from the sentiments of 94 that the collective want to invoke.

What I did find funny though, the Collective website is up and running, between that and the bloggers they are canvassing for membership, subscription and participation. However when I did raise my points on KDS, THE CELTIC BLOG, READ CELTIC and VIDEOCELTS, you know the points I make, attendnace realities, non-attending season card holders, over-pricing, stadium development or indeed anything to do with business performance, I got banned from them all.

What I cant understand, there is a clarion call across these platforms, many contributers having settled that it is ok to lose the cup tie, lose the league, fail even more in europe, as long as it hastens the demise of Desmond and Co,

wanting celtic to get beat ? to prove a point ? dearie me.

I am away to join the collective website, lets see how long I can contribute.

Ps, and i found this funny, Mad mitch is back on these blogs, and mounting a charm-offensive, quite funny.

  20. When will the board publish their response to the shareholder questions they invited to be sent into them ? It’s been 3 months…

  21. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on

Any word on the Questionnaire sent out.. . . . months ago?

Maybe the doctor took it with him.

  22. Moisey17,

    Objective and factual.

No lies , innuendo or cynical underhand attacks.

The fact that the host and his little cabal cannot address the reason the club is here tells us everything.

They hate being confronted with the truth and create

a labyrinth of lies, deflection and innuendo with multis at use.

They helped create the myth of structural expertise at

Celtic despite multiple CL qualification failures and poor recruitment. No opposition ensured domestic success.

Clearly “celtic” fans with a small c. — however as I have asked before why do they do it…. even now with Lawwell gone.

The host could help use his insights and expertise in a really positive way but continuing digs at one

Of our most successful managers. Why ? Would love to understand. Sometimes we just need to let go and move on.

Some in the cabal are clearly beyond help … actually one of them is hysterical and great comedy value.

MON and Team need all our support to win this title. Board need to act as the grown ups and hold out the olive branch for a truce until end of the season.

Peter Taylor’s 30 min BBC doc on the 2 intermediaries that bright John Majors Gov & Republicans (McGuinness / Kelly) after Warrenpoint – shows the art of the possible.

Hope Celtic win on Saturday and someone with guts and moral courage at club steps up to help unite the support. It will be worth 6 points to have the fans back and united— similar to help of Huns refs (Robert Kelly)

  23. saint stivs

Good luck with your continuing efforts re tickets etc. Prices for U13 for the SC game against Dundee on Saturday are £12. Not something a child could afford themselves but not too bad for a family, when other tickets are £17 and £25. In short an opportunity for some families to go to a match together, without breaking the bank, and yet, ……and yet this is a match that the Celtic Fans Collective have decided to bhoycott. And dont forget not too many of these opportunities come along. I’m guessing that the CFC do not consider the impact a bhoycott would have on our younger supporters, especially those U13. It is an ill thought out decision, a negative one which can only have negative consquences for the wider support.

    Great post by the way!
