Material weight on Celtic

201

The postponement of last night’s game at Pittodrie means Celtic will have at least four games more than Hearts before the post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures being in April.  If they reach the Scottish Cup semi-final, it will be six more.  If Celtic progress through another two round of the Europa League, that figure would grow to 10 more games before the split.  That is a material difference.

Newco are out of Europe and therefore have two fewer games on their roster, with a cup game against lower-league opponents, whereas Celtic face Dundee in the cup on Saturday.  The next 10 weeks will exhaust the players physically and mentally; Martin O’Neill will need all his experience and his entire squad to keep momentum rolling.

Winning this league would be a huge achievement, one of the biggest this century and an ominous sign to others.

A very small number of local individuals who either maintained a personal loyalty or were economically dependent on Captain Boycott assisted him, these were known as Gombeen Men”

This was a contemporary term for small-scale merchants #ouch and money-lenders.

There are accounts that a very small number of local traders, operating secretly or under police protection, were willing to sell provisions to Boycott.

Hopefully the start to what needs to happen, a public olive branch of talks is better than where the club was yesterday.

  7. CELTIC and Stuttgart are in talks to increase away allocations for their Europa League match after a staggering 30,000 German fans applied for a ticket for Parkhead.

  8. Dessy- absolutely, though I think the issues are too big right now to resolve, I hope I’m wrong

If Brian Wilson is indeed planning to meet the collective … that is a welcome first step.

Go have a chat, take a couple of pals with you for hauners … but give the club lawyer and stenographer the night off.

“The Battered Bunnet @ 1:41 pm, EKBhoy @ 1:55 pm,

    ……

Nobody is arguing Brendan is not a good manager ( there is an argument that his style of play is now being overtaken ) , however undeniably he has an ego and crashes and burns in year 3 , he’s done it everywhere he’s been. (Jose Murinho syndrome).

Regarding his fraudulent behaviour, yes they are rumours but in this case a really good one , which to be honest I hope weren’t true.

Spare me the lecture , we’ll just have tothr disagreeably disagree.

    As Jack Nicholson once said….

    Youcanthandlethetruthcfc”

You seem to completely miss the point… the m.o. of the groupies is this…

“A lie will fly around the whole world while the truth is getting its boots on…”

When he was emptied, we were told that evidence of his heinous fraud and BR’s shadiness – would come out.

I said no it would not – it was b.s.

I spake the truth – Yes!?

These lies were diseminated three months ago and it is BR&Co that have been proven to be right, steadfast and dignified.

While the Celtic Board bouncing from one calamity to the next have shown themselves to be shallow, incompetent, and vindictive.

They have drawn Celtic’s good name through the mud…

Now of course how good a manager, how up to date is his methods can and should be discussed – should he have been extended beyond the three years could have been talked through.

    That’s fair do’s on a football blog.

Telling lies and slandering folk is objectionable and this agreeing to disagree nonsense tells me you do not have a grasp on the reality of the situation.

If I had thought BR should extend and you thought he should finish his contract and go (that would have been in less than four months time) we could certainly agree to disagree.

However, diseminating malicious lies and slandering folk is way beyond reasonable – especially three months down the road when none of the promised proof is available.

Now of course the backtracking happens…

    They were rumours

    You hope they weren’t true

Well, get the evidence and state what is the truth – or keep quiet and don’t land yourself in any more trouble.

You will notice on the blog, Paul67 will not be open with slander and much more nuanced with his digs…

He leaves it to saps like you to put your head on the line.

Talking is good , action is better . Let’s hope the talking is positive so the action required to get the club back on the rails can proceed .

All concerned leave your anger, disdain and preconceptions at the door . No repeat of the AGM.

  14. Although our hard working players may have to turn up for many more games than Hearts or even the Orcs, the good news is that our boycotting ‘fans’ (ahem) won’t be similarly inconvenienced.

  15. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

I welcome Brian Wilson’s interview and basically agree with him.

Needs to back up with action or it will just exacerbate the current tensions.

He struck a listening tone and validated concerns whilst managing expectations. Much, much smarter than playing the role of aloof, nepo baby prick. That just kills you ‘business’. Take note Desmond Jr.

Will I be at the final if Celtic get there? I will be in the city as it’s an away game watching the Bhoys in the big screen as I have done in almost all Europe games away without a ticket or even prospects of one with the exception of Barcelona and Valencia and Leverkusen.
