Matt the impeccable

257

Our two compensations are that Matt O’Riley is behaving impeccably despite mounting speculation about his future and Celtic have him under contract for another three years.  The Sun’s assertion that Brighton have joined Southampton and Atalanta in the race to sign Matt raises the potential ticket price, should the player move.

Brighton have already paid €30m to Feyenoord for a midfielder this summer and gone higher still for a Newcastle winger.  If Celtic sell, they have two requirements: push the fee higher than what we got for Jota a year ago and ensure we have backfill before agreeing to the sale.

We still have 25 days of the window left, so I wouldn’t expect movement on Matt or a replacement soon.  This has nothing to do with any other business Celtic are looking at this month, although, the same transfer window rules apply.  Players under contract and in demand will seldom shift until late in the window, when the seller has extracted all possible interest.

  1. What a glorious morning.

Think I’ll call it Wednesday eve.

    F5 had a good preseason.

  2. he’s a lovely footballer to watch – him an dhatate.

would love to see calmac playing higher up to see how that helps MO’R

  3. I can’t remember the last time I seen a ‘bidding war’ for a player. Matt’s agent will know what Celtic want and buying clubs will be made aware of that figure. The bidding war will be in the terms offered to Matt.

So if Brighton meet are asking price, I suspect Matt will be opening talks on personal terms very soon. Any delays will be down to Matt, not Celtic holding out to see what else happens.

  4. Rather than worrying about whether or not we get £20, £25 or £30 million, we need to spend big money now to try as best we can to replace O’Riley. The board are trying to sell him, and they will succeed – that is not in doubt – so a replacement has to come in now. But knowing how Celtic always operate, its more likely he’ll leave towards the end of the window and Bernardo will be his lower-grade replacement

  5. I think Maresca was, quite rightly, dug up about his comments on academy player compensation, this morning but he made one other interesting statement in that interview, which has relevance to Celtic. Talking about relationships between managers and recruitment teams at clubs he said:-

“To be honest, I do not think there is any manager in the world that is not involved in making decisions. How can I accept a player that doesn’t fit the idea of how I want to play?”

Now, maybe Celtic do it differently but Maresca was willing to be considered for a job here so we’d have to think that Maresca didn’t do any homework when allowing himself to be considered of rour job.

Let me get this straight, we are not planning to sell Matt until the last minute

Too late to bring in an adequate replacement…..

    Transfer fee gets banked…..

  7. When Matt was bought was he an unknown project needing development or a straight into the first team I genuinely can’t remember what category he was placed into.

    And who signed him.

And who gets the blame for him becoming scotlands highest ever transfer fee.

Did he have any shots on Sunday actually ?

and his replacement is already at the club. Step forward private McCarthy

  8. Bernado is a good attacking player,so for some to say he is not the same as ORiley is very unfair.

My daughter bought two scotch pies at HT, I’m sure she said it was £8.40…gulp 😠

  10. I see from reports that Dermot Desmond is now involved with Celtic transfers particularly Matt O’Reilly. The report said that Southampton have contacted Dermot directly on an owner to qwner level.

Dermot is not our owner and is non executive and should be nowhere near transfer negotiations at a PLC club.

I had heard reports that Brendan is Dermots man now and they speak most days. Dermot is our largest shareholder and does carry support from Institutional Investors, but is not in control.

As an Investor myself then I do not like this involvement in a PLC which is strictly governed by the Companies Act. I hope this was just a one-off courtesy as I would not like to see our board sidelined in their running of the club. I may not agree with all their actions but I think that they should be running the club.

Maybe Bernardo will rurn oout to be an adequate replacement for O’Riley. He’s better than Matt was 2 years ago.

Southampton’s owner went directly to Dermot because the board wouldn’t consider their dirisory offer.

More like Nicholson and McKay,are useless, out their depth, and no experience in negotiating transfers……they are probably sending Norwich a Fax for Idah as we speak….

You know absolutely nothing about McKay & Nicholson and what they do or do not do. All you can do is bad mouth Celtic people for no other reason than it’s what you’ve always done and you know no better.

That halfwit is standing in the doorway of the Sandy Row Rangers club Belfast. Where he had just came out of,

    Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon (Tommy Robinson)

Robinson has received over £2 million in donations and sponsorship, much of it from foreign sources tied to governments in Russia and Israel.[177]

In 2017, Zionist American billionaire Robert J. Shillman funded Robinson’s fellowship at the right-wing Canadian website Rebel News, with Robinson receiving over $6,000 (£5,000) per month.[240]

In 2018, Robinson received £2 million in donations that were sought by opponents of his imprisonment.[241] That same year, the American/Israeli Middle East Forum think tank (led by Daniel Pipes and described as “fomenting anti-Muslim sentiment”) said it had been funding rallies in Robinson’s support and paying legal costs in his appeal against his prison sentence.[

  25. !!Bada Bing!! on

Tom McLaughlin- from defending the price of scarves, STs,cup tickets,European tickets,,etc etc etc, you’re another Placeman for the Board, make a valid complaint, you and your Tory acolytes, will defend it.Very boring and very predictable, if I told you there is a transfer market for A Director of Football role, you would be interested in adding more money to the club, which wouldn’t be spent.Dan Ashworth was headhunted by Newcastle from Brighton, he has just went to Man Utd for £10 million. Lawwell’s first line at the AGM, was he was very aware of the cost of living crisis, affecting millions, but more than likely not you.Since then,we have had 6 or 7 new strips, training gear etc, increases in ST ,CL, tickets,he was talking absolute nonsense, and the likes of you defend him and the ‘ I’m alright Jack’ supporters we have. So you enlighten us all by telling us the experience and skillset,Nicholson and McKay have at negotiating transfers? Top level clubs have professionals doing this, we have a lawyer and an accountant (another one). We are World Class,at making excuses, and fleecing supporters every which way we can.

  26. UEFA have reportedly been forced to replace the VAR officials for Rangers’ clash with Dynamo Kyiv at short notice – because the men have been arrested for stealing a ROAD SIGN while drunk.

BOTH men are Polish and were arrested at 2am. One was due to be on VAR and the other was his assistant.

They have been replaced with Two other Polish officials.

I dont know ” WHY”….but this story made me laugh ?

-Can you source/name article or site where you read this ‘report’ ? Thank you in advance.:-(

    – Dermot may not be our owner but he is way and by far Celtics largest shareholder with Circa(combined shareholding) of around 44% out of 100% of shares

    However

With 22% of shares inactive, not updated, not fully registered Celtics 100% of shares drops to 78%

So covertly Dermot has 44% of 78% shares

A majority 56.4% of active shares

Dermot is on plc board and with a controlling interest he can do as he wishes

Dermot it was who brought Brendan back a second time sending Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay out on his plane with orders to bring him back(much against the will of our host Paul Brennan and his handler Peter Lawell.

I would say Dermot is very much at the base of all decisions and our ‘institutional investor'(lindsell) are content with his steer.

The plc is the company form who wholly own and guide the hood ship Celtic, all(active) shareholders are part of it.The inactives(22%) vote defaults to the board if they are not registered and up to date.
