Matt the impeccable

257

Our two compensations are that Matt O’Riley is behaving impeccably despite mounting speculation about his future and Celtic have him under contract for another three years.  The Sun’s assertion that Brighton have joined Southampton and Atalanta in the race to sign Matt raises the potential ticket price, should the player move.

Brighton have already paid €30m to Feyenoord for a midfielder this summer and gone higher still for a Newcastle winger.  If Celtic sell, they have two requirements: push the fee higher than what we got for Jota a year ago and ensure we have backfill before agreeing to the sale.

We still have 25 days of the window left, so I wouldn’t expect movement on Matt or a replacement soon.  This has nothing to do with any other business Celtic are looking at this month, although, the same transfer window rules apply.  Players under contract and in demand will seldom shift until late in the window, when the seller has extracted all possible interest.

SFTB earlier – fair and reasonable counter to my Maresco rant previously.

In truth, the target of my ire shouldn’t be him but that shameless club who told him to push this narrative.

LAWYERS involved in a multi million pound Rangers football kit sales dispute have settled the case “in the last minute of stoppage time.”

Lord Braid made the remark moments after being told that parties in a £9.5 million compensation claim brought against the huns had settled.

Who does have experience of transfer negotiations? Answer is precious few until you start the job. Former players and coaches get no formal training in this area and have to learn on the job.

In a wise organisation your Chief Negotiator should be involving members of his Board and coaching staff in discussions about transfer progress and what issues come up, so that they have, at least the experience of people who had to walk that road previously, to rely on. Now, I don’t know if Peter Lawwell conducted everything in secret and never took another member of staff into that arena with him to observe and learn. As I say, I don’t know, but I’d consider it a dereliction if he didn’t. I’m sure Mark Lawwell , at least, talked to his dad about what he did at work that week as Peter was making him his Saturday morning fry-up. I know, my father told me many fanciful stories of the tunnel mining world in ma hoose.

But seriously, as PLC employees they will have some familiarity with the work of others in that arena and it won’t just be book learning as hey hear report backs to Board on transfer activities.

Your man Ashworth was once a minor league footballer and then, an academy Director. He once had “no experience” of the area he gravitated into but impressed people that he had the skillset to go there and do well. Seems they got that one right if Man U have now headhunted him.

Everyone has to start Day One but, if they’re wise, they’ll be picking brains as they go along before they feel ready to not need advice anymore. And Celtic does have some people in-house, like PL & BR who have some experience that they can lean on.

I noticed that earlier. Doubt the settlement figure will be announced any time soon.

What is clear, is that *something* was agreed and was acceptable to Elite.

Another financial gut punch for the cash strapped southsiders

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

SFTB- Thanks for reply, Ashworth has earned his spurs through experience, at different levels, and has worked his way to Man Utd,in a £10 million deal. There are guys out there, that we should be employing for transfers, and along with the manager, squad succession, for example a host of clubs have been scouting O’Riley for a while, the DoF would know this, and look with the manager at getting a replacement in.I could check and see what transfers Ashworth recruited into Brighton, not many in Europe have done better in the market.IMO that’s a position we need filled at CP.

Stephen Yaxley Lennon high talked it out of the country after been charged for repeating a libellous statement regarding a young boy. Apparently the boy was recorded while being beaten at school. Yaxley Lennon circulated a video online, which reached 1 million viewers, claiming the boy had beaten up because he beat up a school girl in an unprovoked gang attack. It was confirmed during the case that all of what Yaxley Lennon had was false. It was also proven that Yaxley Lennon had been in contact with the child’s attackers in advance of the attack taking place. Yaxley Lennon was then arrested for making the same unfounded claims in his new documentary & at a demonstration to help whip up hate against muslims

  10. How many strips a season for hard pressed families to find cash for ?

How much in poor quality snacks and drinks for hard pressed families to satisfy children.

How much for childrens CL tickets

Families are the lifeblood and future of our club. Do tje club not recognize this.

We are currently cash rich and it should be obviously prudent to carry out basic Maintenance on our infrastructure. A lick of paint etc during the break

Winter is coming. Imo it is negligent not to have done so.

Who can blame supporters coming back from Turkey with not only a set of gnashers that Red Rum would have been proud of, a new head of hair that a highland coo would love, as many watches to accommodate an Octopus and many Celtic strips for family and friends.

  13. Superbru Round 1 Update

Following last night’s win for Aberdeen, we can now update our first week’s leaderboard. Or we could, if a last minute computer hack on the site hadn’t led to some bizarre scoring outcomes. I will publish what the computer says is the result but, I’d expect, like me, that you will find this hard to believe. Our top performers this week are, allegedly:

Friesdorfer- 11 pts ( this unlikely leader name is an anagram of Direr Offers, which is his usual contribution; it is also an anagram of Fifers order but I think he’s fae Tayside)

Leggy- 10.5 pts ( A fast start from our consistent performer- maybe strong drink does have a steroid affect on predicting ability)

3= Ayrshire Tim, Bateen Bhoy & bognorbhoy- all on 10 pts

Meanwhile the wooden spoon competitors, who were all expecting Friesdorfer to run away with it were:-

69- mckenna_88- 1.5 pts (computer award of wooden spoon)

68- Clinko- 1.5 pts too but he bribed the computer.

66= Bada Bing & Gary Postecoglou -2.5 pts ( I know 3 others got the same score but- computer says- so I can’t argue with Big Tech)

Thanks to all 69 taking part. We will continue to update after each game week final game. Our next deadline will be Sat. 10th August with 4 kick offs at 3 pm and another at 5.30 before we can settle down for an early Sunday kick off for our Bhoys at Easter Road. Who’s gonna predict that Motherwell will do what Hearts failed to do this week?

Here’s a thought that can be applied to many situations.

Due to the K.O. time on Sunday I was caught on the hop and found myself famished by half-time.

I bought 2 pies that were not only ridiculously expensive, they also weren’t very good.

Instead of ranting and raving, I simply will not buy food again inside Celtic Park.

    My money. My choice.

    Simple as that really.

I dony buy food at petrol station, nor in the airport or on trains or in the cinema, because it really is just over expensive and poor planning my part.

i reserve the right to highlight the ridiculous price of fare at celtic park

    £4.20 a pie.

What’s the name of the pub to watch Celtic games in Liverpool?

  19. at the forge retail park, next doot to kfc there is a greggs, the queue half an hour before the game was something else,

i have always wondered why they could be in the footprint selling from vans on the day of the games,

amd even ice cream vans on satursay,

just keep the prices the same as in normal shops.

    and maybe a shoe outlet.

  20. Still no hot water. Food ridiculously priced. Why? With all that money in the bank, surely we can invest in simple, necessary items, which won’t cost a fortune. Shame.

I had a steak pie in the Lisbon Lions stand on Sunday. No idea how much it cost as it was bought for me.

    It was delicious.

  22. serious question, because i dont use it, but i tried the wi-fi in sunday, password protected for celtic live events, where do you get the password ?
